Came here to try a steak because local word was Nobu is not so hot (too bland and boring) in Manila (Filipino diners are die-hard foodies and I respect their opi). Not feeling American beef so I had an Australian steak. Twas full of flavor, wish they would've cut it a bit thicker is my only complaint about the dish. The mushroom truffles risotto was perfect, the fries were double fried, perfect. The shrimp cocktail was oddly delicious and forgot that prawns in the Philippines taste meaty and delicious. Loved the service and the price comparable to a Ruth Chris, not Mastros. When I came by it was packed so my steak took about 15 min after my appetizer. All in all a standard steak place but a steak connoisseur should not come here. Visits: 1 Tip: They will customize your steak for you. Ask for thicker cut, the thinner steaks are what the locals prefer, not us!

Australian wagyu ribeye.

Steaks were so-so. Beef tenderloin was dry, Australian long feed ribeye was a little chewy, and the Australian wagyu ribeye was disappointing. Didn't taste like it was aged long enough and was only slightly more tender than the other ribeye. It tasted average. The wait for our food was inexplicably long since the restaurant seemed almost empty. 45-minute wait didn't make sense. Overall, would not recommend as the price didn't match the quality of the meats.

My sister's medium boneless ribeye came out more rare than my medium rare and she finally had to settle for ribs! Which were actually edible. Biggest problem was the cutlery! The serrated steak knives were so dull and bent, you couldn't even cut a tender steak if you got one. If you can't even give your customers a decent knife, don't complain when they send back a steak. I give the manager credit for apologizing and doing what she could but Expats beware. If you're craving a good steak, save your $ and go to Wolfgang's. I understand that things are different here in the PI. I'm amazed that there is so much variety among restaurants. But it is not the fault of the locals when the restaurant company gives them cheap tools and products just to cut costs! Bad cooking is something else, though. A horrible experience at a Mesa restaurant actually made my wife go back in the kitchen and show the chef in training how to make adobo! Overall, I love the PI and the local cuisine. I think I'll stick to the chain restaurants that I know for certain are consistent.

This acclaimed restaurant in SM Mall of Asia is everything that you expect a prime steakhouse would be. The ambience transports you to some log cabin in the middle of the woods where you await your fresh game to cook perfectly in the open fire. This is how I feel whenever I visit this place. Surprisingly, though, my wife's favorite item in this steakhouse is the Baked Scallops. They use jumbo sea scallops that look like medallions and not the smaller bay scallops that are abundant locally. Highlands Prime Steakhouse is among the few restaurants outside of 5-star hotels that know how to cook steak. When you order medium, you get medium cooked meat and not well-done. In our last visit, I tried their lamb chops and they were tasty and tender. The only drawback to this place is, of course, their price. Menu items are expensive.

They are relatively cheaper than what you'd find in fancy places that offer this traditional American fare. A serving of local steak can go for as low as P300. They offer different cuts like tenderloin, ribeye or porterhouse. These are available into two portions: Hungry (around 5 or 6 oz and Starving, 10 oz). The US Peppercorn Steak is a 6oz US Flat Iron steak crusted with freshly ground pepper - if you want to be adventurous with your steak choice, this is the one for you. If you don't feel like eating steak during your visit, try their other favorites: Rib Eye Roast Beef and Pork Chops (my favorite non-steak dish) or any of their burgers. The servings are huge and are actually good for two people. I love their appetizers and often visit the place just for that. Order their potato skins and chicken tenders if you want a light meal of just the appetizers. You can also have your fill of their large portions of salads like the Chicken Caesar (available as a solo order or for sharing) or the Oriental Salad. Whatever you order from Tender Bob's, you will really get your money's worth and have a satisfying meal.

I was unimpressed though the service was excellent. I love salads but I guess the dressing just didn't tickle my palate. All I can say is -- it's probably the best steak I have ever tasted in my life!!! We had a great gastronomic experience and the waiters and rest of the staff were excellent. The decor is nice and dark, but I wish they didn't have the open windows in the front because the light from the mall reminds me that, oh yeah, we're in a mall... I'd like to take away that feeling and make it feel like it's in New York or Omaha, or even Texas with their dark wood and leather chairs. The wine list was good and the apps were good also, but the star was to hear that they had the tomahawk. THIS Behemoth of a steak was 1.6 grams - equivalent to 3lbs of bone and meat, so I had to share this experience with a co worker, and even between the both of us we could not defeat such a delicious foe. But we did make a sizable dent in it. You ever get the meat sweats when you do an all you can eat Korean BBQ? That's what I was getting, the feeling that my body was using all of it's energy to absorb all of those delicious meat flavors and skipping the words out of mouth function to repeat "ermegawd, izso gud".... I would come back for the steak, they put a great burn on it, you could tell it was rested, and it was a perfect rare without the blood on the plate, a true culinary experience; my hat to the chef. Enjoy!
