When looking for a locally-made breakfast, the Bread Box popped up on my radar (re. Google)…read more Conveniently located near the 330, I figured it would be our best option before heading up to Twillingate for the day. The breakfast and lunch options are prominently displayed on the menu by the counter, but the top item drew both my attention and hunger - the touton breakfast sandwich. Coming with the standard egg, bacon and cheese in a split touton. There's a "mega" version that comes with another touton stacked into/onto the regular version, with an added sausage patty, but I stuck to the base version. We grabbed our coffees (serve yourself from carafes) and sat down to wait for my food. My wife snagged a piece of carrot cake and it was top notch - wonderfully light, fluffy and moist and the delicious cream cheese icing, was, uh, the icing on the cake. Sorry, I had to! It wasn't long before my food was before me. The touton got the sandwich press treatment, with the griddle's indentations readily apparent in the touton. The exterior was lightly crisp from this, and the dough was pleasantly chewy. The bacon was good and crisp , and the fried egg and cheese slice combined for some breakfasty goodness. The home fries were not as expected, as they seemed to be from-frozen french fries that came with an herbal seasoning. But hey, it worked, and they were good enough for my wife to steal a bunch of them! To our deep regret, we won't yet be home for a few days, so getting some of the very tempting breads or sweets did not seem prudent, but I hope that GBB knows that we really, REALLY wanted to. The Bread Box's inglorious strip mall location belies what an asset they are to the town, but judging from the mid-morning crowd there, Gander already knows.

We had a nice lunch at the gander bread box. We ordered the egg salad and the turkey dressing…read moresandwiches. We enjoyed the turkey one, but the egg salad was different than what we're used to. It was very sweet. We also got an order of toutons and got some chocolate brownies and coconut biscuits to go. The selection of baked goods, even in the afternoon, was great! So many things to try, and all delicious!

this was a completely accidental find, as we were headed through grand falls-windsor on the way…read moreback to st. john's from gros morne and wanted to grab some coffee for the rest of the drive - we headed to another cafe, which had already closed, so we asked a passerby if they knew somewhere else we could check out. they recommended the third place, which has a very pretty view of the salmonid interpretation centre nearby (which also looked really interesting but we couldn't check out since we had to get back on the road). there's abundant seating both indoors and outside, a great menu, and - most importantly, for us - great drinks! we ended up getting blueberry lemonades (if my memory is correct), which made me want to turn back to get another one once we arrived back in st. john's and my cup was empty. my friend and i had also been let down by some smoothies/lemonades earlier on in the trip, which this completely made up for, so i will always remember the third place fondly. if you're driving through, i would definitely, definitely make the detour! it's a pleasant oasis with some great drinks and friendly staff.

You would never know what this place was from the outside. It's the basement of an apartment…read morebuilding. You're not in the wrong place! The menu is written on a chalkboard and you can order before you sit down. You can tell they love what they make, vegan options as well as gourmet grilled cheese and BLTs. I got the vegan curry rice bowl. It was delicious. Definitely not what I was expecting when walking into the place. Super eclectic vibe. Decorated with antiques and you can buy local honey and stained glass pieces along with some used books. I would definitely go back and try everything on their menu.
