We are 4 Newfoundlanders and we know seafood. We had mussels, fish & chips and seafood chowder. We rated them as follows: Mussels - 6 out of 10 Chowder - 6 out of 10 The fish - 7 out of 10 The chips - 6 out of 10. Needless to say, we were very disappointed after reading all of the glowing reviews. We simply did not find the food that good. The mussels were small and overcooked, especially condsidering their small size. The chowder while seeming to have adequate fish products, the liquid part was thin and rather watery. The fish itself was very ordinary and not particularly of generous portions. The chips again were very ordinary. To be honest, we have had much better and tastier seafood at local fish trucks and other regular takeouts. We are stating just the facts as we experienced the experience. By the way, the servers were excellent. Needs to work on food quality overall though. read more

This is an out of the way restaurant right on the water and the only place we found that still had lobster, yum! Our server was attentive and gave us great service. It's not a fancy place but the food and lobster were great and the view is great. read more

We were in Newfoundland (visiting from Florida) searching for a lobster dinner and found this restaurant on Yelp! It's not a fancy place but it has a beautiful view of the water and the wait staff are pleasing and helpful. We both had the lobster dinner with sides and nice cold beer, delicious! Went around after eating to find a gentleman overseeing the lobster pond, snatching out lobster for diners. He let me know there were just a few left until lobster season opened again. Came in for lunch. Amazing view. I had the scallops. Large fresh and tasty. Velvet had the fish and chips. The cod was very fresh and perfecly cooked. The fries were fresh and crisp. Did i say the view was amazing? The screech (rum) and cokes were potent. Service by Jan was excellent. read more

We always have such an amazing experience at Doyle W Sansome & Sons. An authentic Oceanside dining in Hillgrade - between Lewisporte and Twillingate. The service staff are all so friendly. We can't recommend the food, the service and the authenticity of the experience enough. read more

Wow!! Just wow!! Very nice lunch. I was sent here for lobster but I saw the thick hand made Newfoundland fish cakes fried in "scrunchions". The cakes were accompanied with just enough cooked and sweetened rhubarb to have little with each bite!! Add a salad, my first piece of Partridge berry cake and happy wonderful service....I left a very happy camper!!! Wonderful!!! read more

This beautiful location has delicious fresh crab and lobster and the best French fries you'll ever find. The people are wonderful and full of local knowledge and the view is as spectacular as the dining experience. Casual and superb. read more

This place is simply outstanding, and if you are only in the Twillingate area for one day, this is the one you shouldn't miss. A note - the place isn't actually in Twillingate and you'll need to drive around 20 minutes to get there (it's easy enough to find - lots of signs from the main road). Sansome is located right over the water on a pier. The windows are all towards the water so the view is gorgeous. There is space for outdoor sitting as well, but weather being what it is, don't count on it. The seafood is as fresh as you can ever find (you'll pass the live lobster pool on your way in), and is all great. Cod, lobster, crab - just fantastic. I haven't found a bad offering from the seafood yet. The staff is extremely friendly, and if it the place isn't really busy (which it can get, as many locals love this place as well) it's worth your time grabbing a short chat with them. Among the many touristy and not really great places in the Twillingate area, this one is a very pleasant find. read more

Stopped in for dinner on our way to Twillingate. We had fish and chips and were delighted with our meals. The fish was fresh cod done in thin, crispy batter and we agreed this was the best we've ever had. Pretty view out over the harbour and the fish cam kept us amused. As always seems to be the case in Newfoundland, the people are the best part, friendly efficient staff. WARNING: Cash only!!! read more

There are some amazingly good Restaurants in Twillingate area and this is one of the Best. Awesome just absolutely Awesome. The food is great, the service is great, the atmosphere authentic, the view will stay with you as long as you live. Good thing we don't live closer, I would be 100 lbs heavier. Went there last summer, the food was superb and the sunset view from the dining dock was to die for. Would definitely go again!

Great service, fantastoc food (best lobsters ever) in a simple setting by the water. Definitely one of highlights of the trip.
