I had seen some favorable reviews on this restaurant, so when I finished my shopping, I went in for a quick lunch. I'm really glad that I did. I ordered a simple lunch of the Newfoundland split pea soup and a bologna sandwich. I really like split pea soup and their version was one of the best that I've had. It was chocked full of seasoning pork, carrots and as a bonus, a big dumpling was located in the middle of the bowl. The bologna sandwich took me back to my childhood days, as not many places these days offer bologna as an option. The bologna itself had a very good flavor and the sandwich was fixed very much like a BLT, with lettuce, tomato and mayo. Based on my experience here, one should at least give this place a try and if I happen to be back in the gander area again, I certainly will be back.

Took them forever to bring out the food and it wasn't particularly good either so really I'd skip it all and go for the fast food.

Heather, Donald and Angie (and the rest of the staff) are exceptional representatives of this restaurant company. Our son has anaphylactic allergies to dairy and nuts, and Swiss Chalet's excellent allergy program means it's the ONLY restaurant we know about that he can safely eat at in Canada. On our first visit about a month ago, the staff accommodated over our 30 hockey players and parents with less than 2 hours notice, allowing our son to safely eat in a restaurant with his hockey team for the 1st time ever. Our server Heather and manager Don were exceptional and attentive hosts, and our family and team were sincerely grateful. On our 2nd visit yesterday, we were lucky to be served by Heather again, and she remembered our son's allergy AND HIS ORDER from over a month ago! We are so impressed and thankful to these wonderful people for their outstanding professionalism and incredible customer service. The food was, as always, excellent and the service was authentic, genuine, and first rate. We highly recommend the Gander Swiss Chalet/Harvey's; exceptional people should be recognized and celebrated for the value they add to their patrons and their company. My son said he doesn't remember his first Swiss Chalet meal, but that he will never forget this meal, because of the service. Thank you from us all.

Needless to say, we were very disappointed after reading all of the glowing reviews. We simply did not find the food that good. The mussels were small and overcooked, especially condsidering their small size. The chowder while seeming to have adequate fish products, the liquid part was thin and rather watery. The fish itself was very ordinary and not particularly of generous portions. The chips again were very ordinary. To be honest, we have had much better and tastier seafood at local fish trucks and other regular takeouts. We are stating just the facts as we experienced the experience. By the way, the servers were excellent. Needs to work on food quality overall though.
