When looking for a locally-made breakfast, the Bread Box popped up on my radar (re. Google). Conveniently located near the 330, I figured it would be our best option before heading up to Twillingate for the day. The breakfast and lunch options are prominently displayed on the menu by the counter, but the top item drew both my attention and hunger - the touton breakfast sandwich. Coming with the standard egg, bacon and cheese in a split touton. There's a "mega" version that comes with another touton stacked into/onto the regular version, with an added sausage patty, but I stuck to the base version. We grabbed our coffees (serve yourself from carafes) and sat down to wait for my food. My wife snagged a piece of carrot cake and it was top notch - wonderfully light, fluffy and moist and the delicious cream cheese icing, was, uh, the icing on the cake. Sorry, I had to! It wasn't long before my food was before me. The touton got the sandwich press treatment, with the griddle's indentations readily apparent in the touton. The exterior was lightly crisp from this, and the dough was pleasantly chewy. The bacon was good and crisp , and the fried egg and cheese slice combined for some breakfasty goodness. The home fries were not as expected, as they seemed to be from-frozen french fries that came with an herbal seasoning. But hey, it worked, and they were good enough for my wife to steal a bunch of them! To our deep regret, we won't yet be home for a few days, so getting some of the very tempting breads or sweets did not seem prudent, but I hope that GBB knows that we really, REALLY wanted to. The Bread Box's inglorious strip mall location belies what an asset they are to the town, but judging from the mid-morning crowd there, Gander already knows. read more

We had a nice lunch at the gander bread box. We ordered the egg salad and the turkey dressing sandwiches. We enjoyed the turkey one, but the egg salad was different than what we're used to. It was very sweet. We also got an order of toutons and got some chocolate brownies and coconut biscuits to go. The selection of baked goods, even in the afternoon, was great! So many things to try, and all delicious! read more

Stopped there first time last week on way to St. John's. Stopped there again today returning from St. John's on our way to Rocky Harbour. Both times we bought: bagged chocolate chip cookies, bagged cinnamon tea buns, fresh loaves of sliced bread. All were like homemade and delicious and fresh. This place is a must stop when in Gander! read more

We stopped in and had a bowl of soup, it was delicious. The bread was amazing and the cinnamon bread was delicious too.

Actually very well on almost all counts. Food is fresh and atmosphere is about what you'd expect but with a few subtle surprises that'll make you smile. Baked goods? Top notch. Couldn't sample it all because of an allergy but I wanted to and couldn't find a flaw in any of it. Staff were genuinely friendly with no sign of forced smiles. I can tell they were selected for genuine personality traits rather than a " I needs meself a jab" mentality. I keep going back here to try something different and have yet to be anything but pleased. The coffee though. Just not my favourite but I'm sure it appeals to many enough. Went to this little bakery for a breakfast takeaway on my way out of town. Thought it would be better than stopping at Tim Horton's. It was a bit of a wait for my ham and cheese croissant and let me say, it was not exactly worth it. It was $4.25 for a tiny croissant that was smothered in way too much mayo. Unfortunately I was already on my way out of town before I opened my breakfast. I'm sure the baked goods I saw in the store are really tasty but not impressed with the croissant sandwich I had. read more

great baked goods. i got the coconut oatmeal balls and they were amazing. my red pepper soup and ceasar salad were fresh and tasty. i just think the salad is super small for 5$. staff is friendly. read more
