We've been Burnside customers for years. Started with our original builder units, progressed…read morethrough the installation of new units (maybe 7 years ago I think), and still to this day. Throughout this time I've never felt pressured or like I was being taken advantage of, and the service technicians have always been friendly and thorough.

On Thursday evening, 6/26/25, I noticed house not as cool as usual. I checked thermostat. Rather…read morethan usual 78 degrees, it showed 83 degrees. Upstairs bedroom even warmer. Pretty miserable night. Only had one small floor fan/heater that I used to keep under my desk at work. Called Burnside A/C a little before 8 Friday morning. Had to leave msg with answering service. But a little after 8, maybe 8:30, I got a call back. Told me they could have tech out by 9:30 AM. Neat, clean looking guy shows up. Checks unit in attic. Then takes plate off outside unit. Puts the gauges on it. Tells that I was on low on refrigerant. Checked the age of my unit = 2013. Might need new unit. At NO TIME did he tell me I might have a leak and if so, filling unit up with FIVE lbs. of refrigerant was not going to help! He even said that this refill would probably get me through the summer. I see now on the invoice there is a comment about a possible leak. He mentioned that eff: 01/01/25 they have to use a different refrigerant that my unit uses now and therefore "might" need a new unit next year. Told me I could look it up on the Internet about this new refrigerant. Also said a new unit probably about $9K BUT he did not push that. Said he was not a salesperson. When I asked later about the cost of the new unit again, he backed off on sending a salesperson out. I come downstairs Saturday morning. Thought everything okay. Always cooler downstairs as no carpet. Turned the broiler (on low) on the oven on. Suddenly all FOUR smoke alarms are going off! You know how loud one is and FOUR all screeching and chirping. I tried waving kitchen towel under the one in the kitchen. That didn't work. Ran upstairs to 2nd bedroom. Got a step ladder. Stood on it trying to wave towel under that one. Didn't help. Too short to have any effect on the one in the hallway. Ran back downstairs. (Did mention I am in my seventies?) Expected a knocked on the door from one of my neighbors any minute or for a fire truck to pull up. For some reason decided to check thermostat. Saw that it was back on 83 or higher. Thought about calling 911. Suddenly it occurred to me to turn oven off. Don't know if that worked that quickly, but the alarms quit going off finally. Maybe this lasted only about five minutes, but it seemed like an eternity. Immediately went to website of Burnside A/C. Did not see anything that said they were open on weekend. (I know now that they are open 8-8 on Saturday and supposedly you can contact them 24/7.) Saw that their little "chat box" states that it was being manned by a real person (male). Told him problem. He said he would let office know. No call back. Waited an hour or so. Called again. This time the "chat box" is being manned by a woman. Told her same. No a/c. She replied that yes, she saw that I had called contacted them earlier. Would let office know. Nothing. Then one evening this week, after five, I sent an email to the dispatcher that emailed me the receipt for $984 that If I need not get a call back, I was going to write a very bad review on their website. Nothing. So here it is 7-04-25 and still no A/C. Can you believe that? Oh, yes, I've had to call another A/C person. He has to order a part. Not sure when his guy can install. Bought two fans. Not too bad as long as you are sitting in front of one of them and don't have to move around too much.

His team he hired to install the unit were exceptional, as we were given an 8 hr window to complete install and they had it done in 4-5 hrs tops. He was great when we had questions, he was kind to answer them all, my wife being a bit anxious, he was patient to make her feel comfortable. Customer service was excellent ad we had some minor cleaning I couldn't attempt to do and he was kind enough on memorial day to make a trip to clear out some lines and water for us. Definitely recommend Jake and Best Neighbors, to anyone seeking an honest assessment for what they need and can afford.

Important note: This company was bought by Dunrite Heating and Air. Please read their reviews…read morebefore calling this company. Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called that company based on the reviews of Nick's Air Services, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, this company is expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right.

Please read their reviews before…read morecalling this company.  I had a terrible experience with this company and was eventually forced to file a credit card dispute because I was charged for services that never got started. So the problem I wanted to get addressed was that the exhaust pipe from my attic furnace was collecting condensation and causing a leak. 1. Initial Visit: A technician came out to diagnose the issue. He said that the pipe had to be replaced due to rust and the cap had to be added to the roof end of the pipe because it was completely missing. He charged me $3000 for replacing two sets of pipes. I thought it was expensive but went through with the transaction because of the high reviews on yelp. 2. Failed Service: On the scheduled date, technicians arrived but refused to replace the pipe because my roof was "too steep." I was told they would reschedule with a crew equipped and willing to work on steep roofs. 3. No Follow-Up: The company never rescheduled this service. I tried calling them multiple times but the only response I got was that they would call me back. (the customer service rep was kind and responsive) Do not use this company if you want reliable service or basic communication.
