During our dogs annual physical, our vet recommended we take our senior dog Gordy to a specialist. His thyroid levels were high and uncommon in dogs. He had other sympotoms that were conceting. I searched on the Internet and found Crown veterinary. Crown veterinary provides emergency care as well as specialized care for your furry friend. We were given an appointment right away. Upon arriving, the staff was very attentive and friendly. They walked us through every step. Once our dog was seen, the doctor came and explained our dogs situation. Unfortunately, our dog was diagnosed with heart failure and a possible thyroid tumor. The doctor went over all of the options and helped us make the right decision. Our sweet boy gained his angel wings and crossed the rainbow bridge where he will no longer feel any pain. The office provides grief counseling. We received a heart of seeds to plant in memory of our dog and a sweet keepsake keychain. Today, in the mail we received a sympathy card with a handwritten message from the treating doctor. Although the outcome was not what we had expected, the care and attention our dog received in just a few hours made the trip worth it. We found out about Crown Veterinary Specialists who were 40 minutes from us and called and they took him right in. The doctor and staff found that he had a mass on his spleen and it appeared to be spreading. We had to make the toughest decision in our lives and say goodbye to our best friend. During the process, the staff and Dr. Yuhas couldn't have been more sensitive about the situation and they made sure that Utley's last minutes were as comfortable for him and us. I had my cat get his stenotic nares and soft palate surgery. The staff was friendly, transparent about pricing and available to answer my questions and concerns. The experience was stressful but we were assured throughout the process that our cat was doing well. They were aware our cat was asthmatic and even kept him in an oxygen tank as a precaution. The surgery is working since I can't hear my cat snorting or snoring anymore and he seems to be happier and more active now that he's getting appropriate airflow. NATHAN CAME HOME TODAY! After spending 6 days in the hospital with pneumonia, I was able to bring him home. He received the best from the doctors and nurses, providing 24 hour PERSONAL care while he had to stay in isolation. There were times I thought he may not make it. The doctors were compassionate yet realistic with his prognosis, the nurses who spent day and night with him, became his friends; he was never left alone while he was closely monitored. They are quick to take your money but slow with everything else.I had my dog here in October for bloat. Service was pretty good then. Cost me over $12,000 but they saved my dog. This time was a totally different staff. They are WAY too busy. I had to leave my dog so he could have an ultrasound for a suspected blockage or as they said "something terrible" like a mass. The ultrasound needed to be done "sooner than later". After being there for a few hours getting xrays, they looked at his lungs and said he had aspirated some vomit and now had pneumonia. He had started vomiting less than 24 hours before. He needed to be on IV antibiotics to prevent infection and fluids to keep him hydrated. He needed to spend the night getting the meds and fluids. Fine, just take care of my dog. Before I left, they of course give an estimate . The estimate was low end about $2900. And the high end about $4800. I had to leave a $3500. Deposit. I was shocked but what can I do? I am at their mercy and just want to do right by my baby. Dr who first saw him first was very nice and understanding.Unfortunately her shift was ending. I was told by the vet that although she couldn't give me an exact time, she would push for it to be done pretty soon. That was about 9am. We suspected surly by noon it would be done. I started to call at 12. No one answered until about 1. I get they're busy. At 1:00pm when I did get though they told me his ultrasound was not done yet and it would be done soon. That he was "next in line". At this point I was very nervous about the quality of care he was receiving. I was getting no communication on their part. I told them so. They didn't really care. Said he was doing fine. How do I know that? Mind you, he was brought in as an emergency. He is old and if he had some sort of blockage those few hours could have cost him his life. Had they told me it was going to be so long I could have taken him elsewhere. I was so scared for him. Again NO communication.I called again at 3:00. Again I was told he was "next in line". I lost my mind! I was sure they were killing my dog and charging me a fortune to do so. I told them that they need to do better. I told them that I was nervous leaving him in their care. The placated me but didn't really seem to care.I called again after 5. They JUST got it done. 8 hours he waited. They found no obstructions or masses. I was told that he was doing well and he would be monitored through the night. I again expressed my concerns about the care and lack of communication. This time was an actual vet. She was nicer and more understanding. She called me at the end of her shift. They called me (woo hoo!) the next morning after morning rounds. He was doing quite well and needed 1 more blood test. A b12 test that costs $150.. ok whatever I already spent $3500.. They said he be ready to be picked up after 11pm. I arrived at 11pm. There were so many people there that there wasn't even a place to park. Finally got a spot. Waited to tell them I was there to pick up my dog. They immediately rang it up and said there was a balance of 23 and change. I though she meant dollars. Oh no, it was an EXTRA 2300 and change. So the high estimate of $4800 was now over $5800!! I was in shock. No treatment was altered and the only other thing that was added was the $150. B12 test! I was TOTALLY STUNNED! but again, what could I do? I wanted my dog. I waited a while to see him. They were busy. A tech brought him out and very briefly went over his discharge. I explained how disappointed I was in the care he received there. She didn't really care.I got him to the car, gave him a cookie to get in as usual. He started coughing. No vomit just gagging and coughing. I made sure he was ok and ran back in! Maybe 20 minutes later the same vet tech came out. Really expressed no concern. She said I could read it him if I was concerned. Well of course I am concerned! I brought him in as an emergency! She begrudgingly came out to my car to see him. Of course he wasn't coughing or gagging then. She again said I could readmit him. I explained all of my frustration with their place not pointing the blame at her specifically. So I was fearful of him being in their care again. She proceeded to tell me I was more than welcome to take him somewhere else. WOW! THANKS A LOT! I will be doing that from now on! The B12 test was supposed to come back the next day. Of course no one called me so I called them in the afternoon. They didn't have the bloodwork in front of them but a vet would call me back. No one called. I called again the following day, 2 days after the test and got the results.I spoke to my vet. He should have been given a full GI blood test so now I have to bring him to my vet to pay for more bloodwork when they could have done it right to begin with. I spent over $18,000 with this place in the last 6 months and I just get the brush off! I breed dog and know a lot of people. I will be sure to spread the word. read more

If I can give this place 0 stars I would. The vet misdiagnosed my dog completely. My dog all of a sudden could not walk so I rushed him to Crown. The vet told me that he has either a partial or torn CCL. Running a blood test showed elevated liver enzymes, she ran the test 2X just to make sure it was not a fluke. When I took him the next day to his regular vet he performed a simple test and showed me that if he has a partial or torn CCL then a bone would stick out in his leg. Nothing was sticking out. A simple google search would also show you high liver enzymes is a sign of lyme disease. He is now on Doxycycline and is improving everyday. Complete incompetence that would have cost us a lot of $$$$ and would not treat the actual problem. My dog could have died because of their incompetence, be very wary of this place. Just to add my dog also showed classic symptoms of lyme disease. He was lethargic; dogs that have a partial or torn CCL still have energy and want to move. It's been 2 days on antibiotics and he is almost back to his old self. He is not limping and I am not seeing any issues with his legs. Amazing progress. I am very thankful to my regular vet for his knowledge and expertise. read more

Story of how Crown almost killed my dog: She was sick and we knew she ate kitty litter. They took her for 4 hours without doing an intake or giving any updates. After $1,500, told us she had severe intestinal blockage (likely cancer), and she needed: a) an invasive $7-8,000 surgery with a complicated post-op OR b) to be put down ASAP. Doctor made us feel terrible for wanting to bring her home overnight (overnight there would've been $4000). They wouldn't listen about kitty litter. We were *this close* to putting her down because she was getting very sick and we didn't want her to go through chemo. Desperate for help, we have dog experts in the family and were recommended Black River Vet (5 stars for them) who told us to try laxatives & pumpkin puree. 3 days and one X-ray later and there is absolutely no blockage. She is 100% herself again. She is 9 years old and likely has years left. Do NOT bring your loved pet here. We almost gave them thousands of dollars to kill our dog because of their ignorance. read more

I found this office to be uncaring, pompous, rude, rigid, insulting, judgmental and some staff members to include Vetranarians to act unprofessional, nasty, accusatory and unstable! If there is an oath to take to ease suffering in animals as there are for humans, this petty facility fails in all areas and will let an innocent animal suffer and even die rather listen to a patient's concerns and judge you and that is cruel. We can't say enough good things about Crown Vet. When our puppy broke his leg, they were the first animal hospital/emergency vet we could find in the area that would accommodate us immediately. Dr. Gibson and team were very thorough in the treatment plan and got him back in shape in no time. We had to visit in between weekly appointments twice because of issues with the cast, and each time we were able to be seen relatively quickly and have a new cast put on. I say relatively because we did have some wait times as they had other emergencies to attend to before fixing a cast, which is completely understandable! Of course emergency services can be expensive, but we found it completely reasonable for all that was done and absolutely worth it. We received an estimate for the total cost when we first brought him in and our final bill was in that range, so no surprises there even after he had an overnight stay. I've had to take my dog there 3 times because they are the only ones open on the weekend and each time they neglected to tell me all the possibilities and even said that what was happening to my dog needed immediate attention but I held off on going for a fourth time because my dog seemed normal and saw my normal vet the following Monday and they said it was definitely not immediately important and it wasn't even something to worry about. read this first it was a horrible experience! they castrated my beautiful french bull dog, without my permission, this was after two people on staff handling my dogs case were told he was not to be castrated! upon admission i told the assistant he was there for nose surgery and was not to be castrated. she said yes we know its not listed on the consent form, so i signed it. obviously the doctor and anesthesiologist and techs never check the surgical forms! i called again before he went i to the or and told the tech " make sure he is not castrated," she said yes she would tell the vet. well, after 5pm i get a call and the vet said the castration went smoothly. i was floored! ( i also work in the medical field.) i went balistic chastising the chain of command and why both idiots i spoke to did not monitor my i structions! there was no continuity of care or responsibility as might be a standard before operating on an animal! i said his body and everything on it was a part of who he was and now he was mutilated! they could not give me an answer as to how the staff let this take place! next day when i go to get him i got stink eye from the staff. the anesthesiologist ran out to my car before i got in and said, please let me check the bag, they had put my dogs testicles in it as a big fckkuu to me! she checked the bag, i drove away sad and angry. my beautiful dog robbed of his beauty! think hard before you go here. there was no post op visit just had to chase the vets for antibiotics and steroids! i do not recommend them unless you are desperate then make sure you speak directly to the surgeons! the office is full of negligent idiots who are more interested in socializing than providing competent care! i blame managment at the top they set the rules! read more

I breed Siberian Cats, my girl Taboo was suppose to have 6 kittens but only gave birth to 5. Brought her into Crown Vet ( I recently moved from NH to NJ ) and they took her in right away. The ER doctor recommended a c-section called the on-call surgeon ( I learned not all ER's have a surgeon AND a anesthesiologist on call over a weekend ) to deliver 1 kitten. The receptionists, technicians and the doctors, the entire staff was professional, supportive and compassionate.
