While there were several options, one company seemed to rise above the rest...Rock 'N Block. Based on the reviews, plus info I read on their website, I assumed Rock 'N Block would be out of our price range. I made appointments for both them and a few other competitors to come out and provide estimates. Austin came out and gave his pitch. Although, I'll say, it wasn't really a pitch like what I expected from a used car salesman. It was more what you'd hope, as someone like me who doesn't know much about turf other than the little I had read, to get from the experience. Austin answered my questions. He further educated me. He gave me other things to think about...and things I hadn't thought of...to ask the competitors. Yes, he measured and did the other things you'd expect as well. Before leaving, he gave me the price on the spot, and I was shocked at what it was. While I still wanted to talk to others, just for the comparison, I was pretty sure Rock 'N Block was who I wanted to do business with. In my discussions on the neighborhood Facebook site, I met another former customer who invited us to come see their yard, which was many times larger than ours. They raved about every aspect of Rock 'N Block, from the top down. From sales, through installation. Their yard, which has the same natural turf we were looking at, was gorgeous. Within a week, we had confirmed what we thought a week earlier. Yes, price was important, but it was also the quality of the turf, what we thought would be best for our dog, and what we thought would be best for us. Add in the reputation and support of the company, and it was easy for us. Originally, installation was supposed to take place today, but with heavy rain forecast, they pivoted on Monday and did the installation yesterday. The crew showed up on time and, after a brief chat with me, they went about their work. Mario, the project manager who came out last week for another measure and to make sure he had his sketch and the order correct, was the first one onsite yesterday morning. I was told it'd be a one-day job, and as it turns out, they were in and out in around five hours. Our backyard is gorgeous...maybe even better than what we had hoped. And our dog likes it too. The team was friendly, courteous, and definitely experts at their craft. While there was a big mess in both the front and back of the house when they started and during the day, by the time they were gone, you'd never know anyone was there. Everything was pristine, and we had a lush green backyard once again. Mario was originally coming back today for the final walkthrough and signoff. However, Travis, the owner of the company, was actually the one to come by. It's clear he cares about the customers he serves, and it's obvious his views on doing whatever he can to make sure every job is right is passed down to his team. I cannot recommend Rock 'N Block enough. This is the way a business should be run. If you're considering turf, you owe it to yourself to consider Rock 'N Block for the job.

Our email conversation started with making the appointment to meet. Then Janice asked for a survey, so I sent over the plot plan so she could put together a rough plan as she asked for "must haves" which I sent over same day. That was Thursday. So now it is Sunday, we are at the house, waiting. As time passes we discussed how long we are going to wait etc. My wife tells me I should email Janice, but I told her she is not going to see it if she is driving. At about 11:20 I called Janice, went straight to VM. I called a minute or so later to leave a message, it rang a few times and then went to VM, so I left a voice mail to find out if she was still on the way, to call back to let me know, and I left my number. 6 or 7 minutes later, Janice emails me. WTH? Why can't you return my call?! Let me know you are not going to bother to attend a meeting that was scheduled 5 days ago?! This is what I got in return via email, to my phone calls and voice mail: "Sorry for any confusion this morning. I was going to work on the estimate and concept before we met to make sure my print is in line with your budget." Needless to say, Janice, I will not be calling or emailing you again...

Unfortunately, the project with the owner,Janice Vogt, was plagued by poor practices and unfulfilled promises. ​They removed some established plants without permission and never replaced them. Worse, when they took up my existing flagstone--which had been perfectly stable and safe to walk on for 14 years- to lay a new layer of mulch they proceeded to re lay it directly on top of that loose mulch. When I pointed out how unstable this was, she charged me an extra $2,300 to take it all back up again and pack that mulch properly and put a layer of rock for the flagstone to lay upon. This should have been figured into the original bid. ​Despite the extra fee, the work did not hold up. Now, just less than a year later the stones are shifting, wobbly, and creating severe tripping hazards. As an older homeowner, this is a major safety concern. When I called Janice to come and look at the situation this past month, she did finally agree to come out but then refused to fix it. In the end she used the excuse that she "doesn't normally use the clients material" (something that she'd NEVER mentioned before) and that my flagstone wasn't good. (In the contract itself it says "Colorado Native Landscaping warranties all hardscape materials and 'workmanship' for a period of two (2) years. They cut corners, didn't solve my weed issue, and left me with a hazardous situation in my back yard, which I will have to pay someone else to remedy. Disgusted. Avoid this company.
