I have only been going for a month, but I love this place. Great workouts and the people that run it are wonderful.

We found an empty court and began a simple singles game--nothing disruptive, just enjoying the space that was clearly available. The courts are first come first serve per the Thornton Rec Center Employees and website. Moments later, an older woman came over and rudely told us that singles play wasn't allowed and we needed to play doubles. Not only was her tone unnecessarily harsh, but she insisted it was a "rule," despite there being no signage or clear policy anywhere stating that singles games were prohibited. If there is an empty court, people should be able to play how they want. The courts are supposed to be first come, first serve, but it seems like a group of older regulars have taken it upon themselves to control who plays, how, and when. It felt more like we were intruding on their private club than participating in a community activity at a public facility. We're all for shared use and following actual posted rules, but this kind of gatekeeping is exactly what drives new players and younger participants away. It was a really disappointing and unwelcoming experience. They need to make it so these courts are reserved. Otherwise the other facilities are great! There is tennis courts, bocce ball , a splash pad, horseshoe pits and great walking paths.

O have never been to a group fitness class like this before, and I have always been way too…read moreintimidated to give it a shot... until now. I'm trying to find a style of training that would fit my goals and motivate me to push myself more than just wandering around the gym by myself. Orangetheory offers a free class for first-timers and my experience was absolutely worth the initial anxiety of walking into a completely new setting. The usual experience wouldn't normally not include the tour, explanation, and follow up that the free session does (unless you have questions of course), but my experience was 100% positive all around. I visited for a Tuesday 11:15am class and Hannah was the group's instructor. I showed up about 30 minutes early to walk through the class process, get a tour of the gym, and explanation of the various styles of classes offered. There are several lockers available to store your personal items, and showers and restrooms are available if you need them. The whole space is very clean and this location doesn't have the same subtle funk in the air that a lot of gyms tend to have lol. The gym is large, the light is very forgiving (especially for those of us that turn into tomatoes while working out), and there are multiple dans that help to keep you cool while you're moving. The class is attended was very upbeat and motivating. Hannah was such an awesome coach and gives off a very positive energy; it definitely seems like she loves what she does, and in my opinion is very good at it. The class this day was pretty small, about 12 people to their standard 25 or so, so we were able to kinda spread out on the equipment. I particularly enjoyed the guided workout and direction we received from the coach; I feel like this keeps you focused on the workout and allows you to put all your energy into it rather than what I mentioned before about aimless wandering and whatnot. The positive reinforcement while working out is also super motivating, and the extra guidance (if you need it) on proper form and technique is extremely helpful and delivered in such a kind, supportive way. The membership is admittedly expensive, but I think could be worth the price depending on your willingness to commit to a consistent schedule. There are single classes and package options available for purchase in addition to the annual/monthly memberships for those that might want to just visit a handful of times over the course of a month or more, so options are flexible. The concept of Orangetheory is very cool, and I think more of a bang than your normal classes at a gym might be, so it's definitely worth at least a try to figure out if you think a membership is right for you!

One of the best things about having an Orangetheory membership is that you don't have to worry…read moreabout missing a class just because you're traveling! My fiancé and I were in the Denver-area visiting some friends -- and we decided to book a Sunday morning class at this OTF location with Rhea. Heads-up if you're coming from out of town -- you'll need to call the studio and give them a credit card to put on file AND plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your class to fill out some paperwork. You have to do this at every new location you visit -- but it's only once, and then they'll have all of your info on file. Rhea was an amazing coach -- so engaged and encouraging! I liked how this studio was set up compared to our home studio in that the instructor's microphone can connect with one of two speakers based on where they are in the room. For example, if you're running on the treadmill, you can still have the music blasting while the coach explains the lift instructions to the floor crew, and vice versa. One thing I will say if you're visiting this particular studio (or any in the Denver area) is that the altitude is no joke. My typical "push pace" was a lot closer to my normal "base pace," simply because my body isn't used to running at that level. Even still - I had a great workout, and Rhea helped us stay in touch with what our bodies needed in each component. Thanks so much, OTF Thornton! We'd definitely return for a class the next time we're in town.

My wife, myself, and our 6-month baby were swimming laps (yes, laps in an infant flotation device)…read morein the lap pool lane when the lifeguard asked us to leave it for someone who 'actually wants to swim laps.' We explained that we are also swimming laps and we don't understand why we need to leave the lane for someone else who wants to do the same. The lifeguard told us the ~50 y/o man was rude to her, so she felt pressured to do so. We settled on splitting the lap pool into two sides (even though we are literally 3 people and he is 1). The guy didn't like that very much and he stood against the wall at one end of the pool for a while looking upset. When we swam to the end of the pool he was on, he forcefully splashed down into the water to send it into my baby son's face and made him gasp for breath and start crying. A male lifeguard witnessed this and went for help. When the manager arrived, she insisted that we leave the lane and when we refused, she asked that we instead continue 'sharing' the lap pool lane with the guy who assaulted our child. The best part is the first time we wanted to go swimming in Broomfield, we arrived at the other facility that has strictly lap pools and therapy pools and they suggested WE GO ELSEWHERE because it's NOT FOR BABIES. Ok then why does the 50 y/o creep get to come to the kids pool and demand we exit the lane? Thanks for being just another place in Colorado that hates babies. We are disgusted by the manager response. If you have an issue here, dial 911, cause no one is going to help you. Even when you go to a place built for children, they will act like they're worthless and an inconvenience to others. Review your policies.
