This crossifit gym works with people at any level of fitness. I appreciate the coaches instructions if I need to modify workouts or help me to use correct form. I can already feel and see the benefits from the workouts; my strength, mood and energy have definitely improved. I like the group camaraderie and friendly welcomes to established and new members. Fitness goals and challanges are encouraged and assistance is available. There are a variety of classes, Crossfit, Barbell, Masters +55 (one of the classes I take), Personal training and even Open gym times. I gave this gym a try and really didn't enjoy my time there. I am surprised by the reviews about this being an inviting community. When I walked in, it was a very "Seattle Freeze" community. If you aren't part of the regulars, you're largely ignored. I tried to spark conversations, but it was clear that I was not welcomed by the "regulars". The trainer of the session was very kind, but didn't really explain the terminology of CrossFit for me. So I spent most of my time trying to understand just what I was supposed to be doing. Lastly, I just don't enjoy the "competitiveness" of the classes. It's more about people beating each other's score than it is about self growth. Mind you: I'm an avid fitness enthusiast. I have been working out for over 10 years. I know what I'm doing inside of a gym. I also have been to gym classes. And, by comparison, other gyms have had a far friendlier and inviting atmosphere. Trainers have gone out of their way to introduce newcomers to regulars to help grow their community. This gym seems to cater to the regulars above all else. Sadly, I won't be back. I gave it three classes, but it was the same thing every time. I give it 2 stars because the attitude of the trainers were pleasant. I just wish they knew how to (a) cater to CF newbies better and (b) did more to break the Seattle freeze community here. read more

I dropped in on a Saturday morning class, and I'm so happy I did! It was a small class, but it was packed full of fitness! We did partner workouts, which I was a bit nervous about because I was new, but everyone made me feel welcomed. They have a great space that also extends to the outside when they opened the garage doors. Also, if you buy a shirt there they waive the drop in fee! I really enjoyed my time there and would take a class again if I were ever in the area! read more

I started CrossFit knowing I would love it, but this is on a whole other level in the best way possible. The workouts are great, and I always feel amazing for the rest of the day. But what really sets this gym apart is the community here. Chuck and Bre (owners) are great people who are not just passionate about being fit, but are also super encouraging and infectiously positive on a personal level. I was surprised to find that CFK has become my second home and community. It's extremely motivating fitness-wise to have a place where you enjoy actually being there. Especially when you have to get up at 5am to get your workout in before work :). Now, beware of the naysayers. People will tell you that CrossFit is dangerous, cultish, expensive, and a fad, but once you check out CFK, you'll be convinced otherwise. The trainers here really prioritize your safety over maxing out. The people are open and fun, and not judgmental about you occasionally wanting to have some bread or sweets (most CrossFitters do a paleo diet)...in fact you'll frequently find us grabbing a pint at 192 Brew AFTER a workout. Cost of CrossFit is regularly the item people like to bring up in conversation...let me put it this way, it's more than a gym membership, yes, because you practically get INDIVIDUAL TRAINING. Sometimes you're in a class of 3 or 4. Sometimes, rarely, there are 20, but the cost of small group training at a regular gym is similar to what CFK charges. 1-on-1 personal training elsewhere is much, much more, and you get all the benefits of a personal trainer at CFK with the camaraderie and encouragement of your fellow CrossFitters. I may be biased, but I'm also thrifty and smart about money...trust me, this is a good deal and worth every penny people! Lastly, you won't get bored and I don't think the CrossFit regimen is going anywhere. Here's why. The team at CFK knows how to keep things interesting with monthly challenges and interesting athletic events during the summer (i.e. seaplane ride followed by a run, a triathlon, and the latest, pulling a 757 Boeing jet tug of war style on a team of 20). My wife and I have been going to this crossfit gym for four months and couldn't be happier. The coaches are great, there's a kids play room, the workouts are intense. This is the first time in my wife's life that she's looked forward to working out each day, the comraderie, the convenience, and the short, intense blasts are what make it so enjoyable. read more

This gym is amazing!! I love it. And now I love crossfit. It doesn't matter what your beginning level of fitness is, because this gym will get you started in the best way possible. If you're new to crossfit, or even new-ish, I HIGHLY recommend taking the intro course. It currently consists of five classes geared toward teaching all the basic lifts and movements you'll need for a class. I took this course four months after having a baby, with the weakest muscles I've ever had (EVER!) and was pleasantly surprised by the ease with which I was able to learn the new skills and incorporate said skills into workouts. Another bonus for all you people with kids: a kid zone! There's a little room built into the gym with games/toys for lots of ages. There's also childcare available- I believe it's offered two morning classes per day? But you'll have to double check on that. Anyway, bottom line- this gym is worth checking out. It's probably the least intimidating way to get started in crossfit and a great place to get in shape or just improve your strength/conditioning. Good, bad, and ugly. First of all, the good: The people are GREAT. No problem with them. Fantastic trainers. Really nice people! But the workouts can be bad, I mean, designed to hurt you. I mean absolutely nuts. I am a dedicated exerciser, not a couch potato, but I was shocked. The idea that you can 'scale' the workouts is misleading. You are pushed to overdo by the competitive environment. Your performance is recorded and presented on the web page for everyone else to see. There is pride associated with being at the top, and disgrace with being at the bottom. The ugly: The workouts gave me permanent injuries. read more

I will admit, I was a Cross Fit skeptic. As a health care provider, I have seen too many people injure themselves from Cross Fit. I play sports and as I get older I know that I am not as fast as I used to be. Having workouts that help me build strength, flexibility, and speed are important to getting better, but also preventing injuries. The main thing that I looked for when going to check out Cross Fit was 'fit'. I needed the place to be relaxed, not hard-core-push-til-you-puke, and to feel like all folks of all levels were welcome. This is definitely that kind of Cross Fit place. With the right 'fit,' this has become a super enjoyable part of my fitness. I feel like my 6 yo self and am glad that in coming around to Cross Fit, the right place was literally down the street. read more

One of the trainers, I think her name was Coral, told me that I was unfit to be a mother if I didn't sign on for more training and her diet plan. When I said that I needed to talk to my husband to sign on for hundreds of extra dollars of supplements and training, she said, "Why would you think that your husband doesn't love you enough to support your plans?" I was tempted to give it one star, but since the facilities are really nice and overall the staff seems fine I'm bumping it up. But he prices are just way too high. I spoke with the staff and checked the website. If I understand it correctly you pay $100+tax for what's basically an introductory fee and doesn't include sessions. You pay this fee and then spend a little over a week of time getting a "gym and crossfit introduction". Basically charging you $100 to ask questions and learn basic movements. Even if you are brand new to fitness, charging money for this is ludicrous. I've been involved in athletics and gym life, but never crossfit, and I believe the staff said I could not skip the classes. AFTER you pay $100 and tax for these "lessons", it's $140-$165 per month. $140 two workouts a week $160unlimited workouts $165 for a 10 class punch card (unsure if expiration). And then student/senior discounts I think, neither apply to me so I'm not sure. So if you've heard the skepticism of crossfit, but only want to try it out to see firsthand, you'll be paying a minimum of $240 for one month. I'm guessing a good chunk of this is crossfit branding costs. I'm not sure if the "introduction" or high monthly costs are typical of crossfit gyms, but it sure is not giving the company a good name. They might have the greatest trainers in the world, but without reasonable costs to back it up many will never know. If they cut the introductory fee and let you trial an actual crossfit class for free, then at least people could see if they thought it was worth it. read more

It took me a year to walk through the doors of a crossfit box. I emailed the owner over a year ago and asked about being out of shape and starting crossfit. He told me it's scaled to anyone and everyone. Still, I was too nervous about being overweight and out of shape. I had heard rumors about crossfitters being in crazy awesome shape and they have the speed of cheetahs. A year later I finally got the courage to email again, with the same question I believe, and again the owner told me that crossfit really is for everyone. So, overweight and out of shape I showed up Crossfit Kenmore. I was so nervous and worried I wouldn't be able to complete the exercises. But...Crossfit Kenmore gives you 3 free fundamental classes and you are only with a group of people who are all brand new to crossfit and likely not in prime shape either. You don't start with crossfitters who have been doing this for years. That was the biggest relief for me. I was not alone in this journey of being out shape and no one else in the class had done crossfit before. We all learned together. At the end of each fundamental class you complete a short workout. Each class the workout gets a little longer or harder in an effort to build you up slowly. Its amazing how fast your endurance builds. Once you finish the 3 free fundamental classes you can decide if Crossfit is for you or not. Really there is no reason not to try it out. When I started going to the regular crossfit classes, again, I was worried I wouldn't be able to complete them and especially the running part. But crossfit really is scaled to everyone. If I needed to change an exercise in order to complete it, that is perfectly acceptable at CFK. I can barely lift the bar, let alone put any weight on it. No one judges me for that and everyone is incredibly encouraging at crossfit Kenmore. Chuck, the owner, is a wonderful coach and person. He has a keen eye for when you need to do less weight in order to perform the exercise correctly and he is skilled at pushing you harder when he knows you can do it. He also makes it such a welcoming place for new people. Everyone I have met at Crossfit Kenmore has been so nice and encouraging. The people I have met are helping me push myself harder and helping me reach my goals. Crossfit Kenmore is also super family friendly. They have childcare available and if you have an older child, they can play board games on the couch while you do your workout. I showed up out of shape, overweight, and unable to lift much more than a bar. I have lost weight, I am stronger, and I am getting in better shape every day. read more

My husband and I started at this gym because of a Groupon. Didn't think we'd stay, as it's a half hour from our house, but I was so very wrong. I never thought I'd be excited to workout. It was always a chore. Now don't get me wrong. It's challenging. But the best part is the community. I'm excited to see the coaches and the people. They are super nice and motivating. I never feel like I'm pushed past my capability. And good form is always stressed. It's been a month and I can see a change already. I'm stronger and happier and I have new friends! I love this gym! All of the coaches are helpful and have a primary focus on correct form. I have never had such regular and intense workouts. Each workout pushes me to do better or do something I didn't think I could. Between the coaches and fellow Kenmore Cross-fitters a sense of encouraging community is developed.
