If you're looking to support a small business and getting fit, survival gym is the place for you…read more The gym is full of fun equipments and even has some ninja warrior type of courses. The owner, Josh, is also extremely nice with a lot of ideas to challenge you. When you join survival gym you can join in how your schedule fits in and the workout is defined for you. Josh will also work around any injuries and help you get the best work out your can. On my try out I was able to do hammer swings in a tire, belt squats, triceps, a whole lot of new workout ideas! I totally recommend survival fitness if you can accommodate the schedule

Essentially you pair off at the beginning and there is a list of exercises/stations. So while you do a 10 set dead lift for example, the partner may be doing push-ups. Then after a few reps you go to next Station. Josh, the owner, helped walk me through the exercises since I wasn't familiar, but I could see him also encouraging/helping others. It was great to see a wide range of body types/ages. I was pretty sore afterwards, but it was a good type of sore that told me I did a good job. They're currently running a special where you can try the first class for free then buy a 10 pack for $100, which expires after 6 months. I highly recommend! I think it's cheaper/more effective/encouraging than going to a personal trainer.

If you're looking for a fitness club that you can slip in and out without being known and without being pushed, then this probably isn't for you. But if you want to actually reach your fitness goals and get in shape, then I'd look into Thrive. The best part about Thrive is the community! There's a Crossfit class (obviously), but there's also a class called "ThriveLite" which is a 45-min class that utilizes less weights and more cardio. And for the bodybuilders, there's a weightlifting club. The structure of the gym is class-based. This means that when you come, you'll be working out with other people of various skill levels. This also means you'll have a coach who explains every movement and pushes you and the other Thrivers in the class to do more than you think you're capable of. It's like getting all the benefit of a personal trainer without the awkward "Just work out while I stand here and stare at you" from some personal trainers. You also get an online profile where you track your progress from each workout so you can measure your progress. It's worth it.
