Afternoon Tea for Three... What a Lovely Surprise! We were…read moregreeted by friendly, knowledgeable staff who immediately made us feel welcome. We had preordered the three-tier afternoon tea, which included individual pots of tea chosen by each guest, so there was truly something for everyone. We enjoyed Paris , peppermint, and English Breakfast, all Harney and Sons teas. The three-tier stand was beautifully filled. The first tier featured delicious quiche, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, and spanakopita, with one of each item for every person. The second tier held two buttery, perfectly sweet scones for each guest. The top tier was dedicated to desserts and did not disappoint. We enjoyed Parisian chocolate cake, cheesecake, key lime cake, and chocolate chip cannolis. Everything was fresh, moist, and absolutely delicious. We were able to relax and enjoy each other's company without ever feeling rushed. It was a wonderful experience, and I'm grateful to have such a lovely place for afternoon tea in the neighborhood.

Food was excellent, all our meals were outstanding. The…read moreservice was lacking in that we were asked our preference for water and they only offered if we wanted frizzante or still water, and not an option for tap water. Thinking the still water was tap water we chose that option not knowing the water was $9 a bottle. So we were very surprised to see a $27 water bill. Maybe this was unintentional but they clearly omitted the offer for tap water. what was an enjoyable dining experience was somewhat tarnished by this.

Most of this time was spent waiting on the one server to circle back to us. She was a friendly and pleasant waitress, but does not have the skill to juggle tables effectively. The food was tasty. I loved the featured salad. Unfortunately they don't allow you to share entrees, which I find very odd. For an Italian restaurant, not being able to order for the table is a strange limitation. Also $30 for gnocchi is kind of crazy. The restaurant has a nice vibe. I'm sure it's lively and fun during the summer. Off season, it feels overpriced and not attentive enough to return. We also waited 20 minutes to pay our bill before we saw a "pay on your phone" option under the folded section. We then paid and left. Overall a really unfortunate experience.

However, it almost felt like this restaurant was trying its hardest to make me dislike it despite the delicious food. The hostess seemed to forget about us after we checked in for our reservation and seated several other parties that came after us. After about 10 minutes, I went back up to check on our table and the hostess seemed to have forgotten that we spoke earlier and asked me if I needed anything. We were promptly seated after that. Not really a problem by itself. Our server was very nice and did a great job of convincing us to order the pasta special. We put both items in at once and ate the complimentary bread while we waited. We asked to split the two meals, and they were very accommodating and split the salad in the kitchen for us. The pasta came out on one plate and we had to split it ourselves. There seemed to be sauce under the table from a previous diner that got rubbed onto my shirt. I went to the bathroom to clean it off, only to discover there was no soap. There were at least 4 other people in the bathroom at the same time as me, and to think no one coming out had washed their hands was pretty gross. Anyway, the most expensive pasta on the menu was around $40, so I figured the special would be around that price. Complete rookie mistake on my part for not asking the price before ordering, but I was shocked to receive the bill that our plate of rigatoni and 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, and maybe an ounce of crab meat was $56. Other reviews mention this, but please be aware of the absurd markup on the specials before ordering!! It took an hour for our food to arrive and no one came to check on us during that time or refill our waters, and no one came to check on us after we received our food, only when we were ready for the bill. Our server was nice but not attentive. I tipped what I believed to be a reasonable 15%, considering the disappointing service and very expensive special. In fact, it would've been a 23% tip if we ordered the next most expensive pasta on the menu. But anyway, I was under the impression that 15% is an acceptable amount to tip for mediocre service. I was shocked when our server chased us down on the sidewalk outside the restaurant and confronted us. She was upset that we tipped less than 20% (her words). I told her that I was disappointed by the service and price but really enjoyed the food itself. She just walked away. I spent many years working in food service, and the other person I was eating with currently works in food service, and the two of us were appalled by the complete lack of professionalism. It is never acceptable to chase after a customer. You would've thought we didn't tip at all. It's a shame, because the food here really is delicious.
