5 star Dive Bar. With that being said, the service was great! I was intrigued when I saw the menu online. I knew I was in for some wild surprise here... Surprise, They don't have a menu. I stopped in on a monday and they did have two daily specials though. I did not eat here so I can't speak to the quality of food but I did see the cook making up some rosemary butter. I planned my morning just right. Intentionally knew I was getting my nails done next door & by the time I'd be done- it's be lunchtime. I wanted to have a local vibe, a beer, & cheap eats. Now- when I say cheap- don't confuse it w/ no good quality. For $13 & change- I had a pint of Stella, bacon cheeseburger, & fresh sliced potato wedges- that were as long as pickle spears! Jim, the bartender & grill master was chill. My burger came on a soft sesame bun- grilled to my liking- medium rare. Offered w/ fresh sliced tomatoes & lettuce on the side. My grilled onions were delicious. Condiments are available- Cholula, mustard, ketchup.... Although I was almost done w/ my burger- the fresh fry wedges arrived. Jim did mention they were gonna take a few. And it didn't dawn on my why. But, seeing their freshness- it made sense. I walked into the pub making great conversation w/ a guy I just met (damn I love being a social butterfly) & then a friend from my past walked in too! So, all 3 of us just kept yapping! Crickets is nearly ideal. It was the first stop on the San Diego pinball tour and it did not disappoint. They open at 8, delightful bartendress and a few dependable morning drinkers at bar. Good Bloody Mary and functional pinball machine. Calling it a "dive bar" got the affirmation of everyone in the bar. Pleasant people and I would like to try out their grill sometime but we were there at 10:00. read more

I first want to say that I'm giving Cricket's 4 stars instead of 3 because of it's proximity to me. If you don't live in Normal Heights or North Park, this is probably just an okay joint. Beer/liquor is cheap and bartenders are friendly, ESPECIALLY Lydia. They have food available, though I haven't worked up the courage to try it yet (it is a very divey bar). They're working on creating specials and sprucing up the place, it could definitely use some interior decorating as the back area looks like it's more for storage than for public view. read more

This bar is an amazing little bar with very friendly staff. We weren't expecting to have a few drinks there, but when the manager who was standing outside offered us a free drink after finding out we serve in the same branch as he did. We couldn't say no. They were overall amazing staff and amazing people I can't say anything bad about this place. read more

Now this is a dive bar. True and simple and that isn't bad. It is what it is. They have the free popcorn and this killer little MSG laden spice that you can put on it. I think they do this because it tastes so good with a cold beer. Beer is cheap and the drinks are strong. If you don't "feel" like you should be in a dive bar, then don't go here. But...if you want a place that won't judge you for being who you are then this place is pretty damm good. It is a nice distraction from the old zombie lounge, now radio room, soon to be club eleven and the soda bar(which are both within stumbling distance). Those are a little more rock n roll style or "I used to live in North Park but all the college kids drove the prices up on rent and drove me out." So you can hit a little trifecta of bars within a block or so...nice. or not...depending on if you drove. I can't remember if they had a jukebox. They have a pool table and you can watch some sick ass mullets(guys and girls) with their own pool cues act like they are rad, well, because they have a mullet and their own cue. pretty cool pretty cool. Ok, so this place can look a bit intimidating. Its kinda scummy looking and most of the patrons and staff look a bit weathered. All that aside, I've had a much better time at this place than other trendier locations. The people here are down to earth and accepting and have much more interesting stories to tell than any douche at the Soda Bar (though i still really like the soda bar..which i guess makes me the douche). You can get a pitcher for $7.25 on any given night and pool is free on Sun evenings and perhaps other nights i am not aware of. I might be a bit bias since this place is quite literally right around the corner from me, but when i am looking for a quick cheap drink and some good billiard competition, Cricket's Pub has yet to fail me. read more

Things I require in a bar: Fair beer deals, helpful, attentive bartenders and a place where I can empty my bladder to make room for more beer. While the Cricket is better off as a hidden gem, and one of the reasons I absolutely love this little bar by my house, I just have to share: The bartender Lydia is the coolest and already has my name memorized. They offer free wifi for the cheapies like me that still haven't gotten an unlimited plan. While I haven't gotten to try the food, you're welcome to bring in your own during the hours they're not serving. And the pizza place next door will even call over to tell you when your food is ready so you don't miss any of the darts tourney. Cricket is like Gilly's minus the karaoke, closer to my house and cheaper beer. WIN. read more

Cricket's is the perfect hole in the wall neighborhood bar. They serve breakfast every morning. They make *real* Bloody Marys. They have a great staff, great prices, a cool owner, and a great crowd. Everyone is very generous and it feels like home. It's always fun while at crickets, between the regulars, the weirdos, and the randoms; it's a blast. Everyone is super cool, loves to chat, and just makes for a good time. They throw random theme parties which always have a great turn out. They have darts, a pool table, and karaoke on Saturday night. Whether it's Thursday night, Sunday morning, or a busy Friday or Saturday night, Cricket's delivers. In fact... Nestled in a tiny, tiny strip mall, I found street parking and moseyed on in to Cricket's late Christmas Night. Kung fu panda II ON THE TELLY. Pool table. Darts (you can purchase your own darts, or dart parts if you want to get fancy) Modern jukebox (or course I played poison - GIRL I MUST WARN YOU). Cheap beers - it's larger than most dives, but it's quite cozy, too. The bartender was nice, and she didn't bat an eye when I was suddenly unsure of which beverage I wanted ( I settled on a Heineken). Sweet. My cousin and I tossed a few back, played pool for a bit and people-watched. We had a good time. Next time I'm in town, I'll give their short bar food menu a try! read more

I lived in the area for about there years and recently went in about a year ago. I went during the week at night and met the bar tender LYDIA! She was very nice and talkative and made me feel welcomed.. this place is a total dive bar and everyone knows eachother- reminded me of cheers :) Of course it has its morning crowd and night crowd- older during the day and younger at night.. Dive bar with TVs if you're in the area and want to watch a game. Tvs however were very quiet for the Sunday night football game we were watching. I always read reviews before going somewhere and saw a unhappy bartender named Renee worked there. She indeed does work there and is unhappy as in not very welcoming. This place is for sure a hole in the wall bar. The place is small, 3 tables, a pool table that's too big for the place, darts, BUT they have karaoke and we have the best time going to this bar to sing. There is barely a wait for your song to come up and the guy that runs it is really cool. I have been there 2 weekends in a row with a group of friends and we have a really good time!! Great little bar. We r visiting from Venice and we happened upon crickets. Sandy the bartender is so sweet, helpful and funny (turns out she is a comic). Pool table - LOTS of daily specials and great BBQ. The only downside is Guinness is in a bottle vs can(can or draught is so much better. This place is cool, it's a total dive bar with a lot of regulars. I come here sometimes cause it's next to the laundromat I go to and one of my friends Sean really likes it. The bartender Lydia is way cool she's a people person and is super nice. I came here one night and Lydia was working and was very welcoming as usual. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because one of the other bartenders sucks! As bad as she looks and that's pretty terrible! She was working with Lydia on February 10, 2016 at approximately 6:45 pm or 7:00 pm. I don't know her name that's why I'm being really specific with the time cause who ever the manager is needs to hire a better server who has at least a pleasant appearance and decent people skills. This girl was rude and insulting and needs a reality check cause she ain't all that in fact she's far less! Take the garbage out to the curb and haul it to the dump and this place would be a whole lot better! read more

This place is a co·nun·drum. Excellent service one day and sub par service the next. Sometimes you walk in to CCR or Led Zeppelin and other days I don't know, seriously, worse music I have ever heard for our 2nd Sunday. Music bad enough to make you abandon you beverage. That being said the beers are cold and the prices are decent but for $&*%'s sake get it together. I hear the food is alright but haven't tried it yet. The Cricket has the potential to be a top notch dive bar but the great thing about a good dive bar is their consistency. Something The Cricket Pub is lacking. Crickets Pub in San Diego was the highlight of my vacation 12-25-2016! I live in Las Vegas. Just came off cruise ship HAL Westerdam Christmas Eve. While visiting family on Christmas a few blocks over on Swift Ave. my brother-in-law & I decided to walk to Crickets Pub for a beer & watch the big football game. Excellent drink specials- ex. Pitcher of Modelo Especial $10.50! Very nice attentive staff running the show! We were even served a nice platter of diff. cheeses & crackers. This is coming from a guy who spent a week in the best suite (7151) and bar hopping all week throughout the ship & Mexico! Crickets made me feel at home & welcomed. Can't say enough about staff. Christmas spirit was in the air. Patrons were friendly just like on Cheers! True cliche. Told all my friends in Las Vegas about Crickets.
