I actually really love this bar and would be a 5, but I HATE Alex. I'm a local and frequent here just to play a couple games of pool, and every-time he truly makes it the most unenjoyable experiences every time- from him being rude to us personally & telling us disrespectful slurs to be waiting for our beers and hearing him shout similar slurs + racist remarks to young girls behind bar!!! I wish I could say it was just him, but sadly this is NOT a safe space, which is so sad being that we literally live around the corner:( frankly there have even been occasions where strangers have spoken up for us in situations where we were not being left alone, and the staff has refused to do anything and even made remarks back towards us, super disappointing. shout out to Jason(i think) super pleasant experience every time he's working, keeps it cool read more

How the heck have I not written a review for "fox" yet? This is one of the last bars that opens at 6am. Especially in PB. It is dark and you walk down stairs to find pool tables, strong drinks and amazing bartenders. My favorite is Jason. A world traveler with great stories and a cute smile. ALL ages and walks of lives come here to party. Old, young, wealthy, and some who appear homeless. It's a great vibe. Late nights here are legendary. Highly recommend!!!!! read more

1 Star I used to love this bar. As someone who's lived in the neighborhood and made this spot a regular go-to, I'm heartbroken to say I'll never step foot in Silver Fox again. Here's what happened: I witnessed a redheaded bartender call a woman a "f*ing whore" for the simple act of lifting her drink off a pool table. Yes, really. My friend and I were sitting at the bar and immediately caught what he said -- loud, aggressive, and utterly uncalled for. In the moment, I was shocked and upset. I tossed my drink in disbelief -- barely a splash, maybe two ice cubes -- and within seconds, the bartender had the bouncer kick me out. I had no issue leaving. It was 11:30pm and honestly, I already felt deeply unsafe as a woman in that space. I've been coming to this bar since I moved here. It used to be one of my favorites. But this experience exposed a deep undercurrent of misogyny in the staff. To speak to anyone like that -- let alone a woman doing absolutely nothing wrong -- is inexcusable. This wasn't just a bad night. It was a violation of basic respect and decency. This place will get you drunk. And maybe give you COVID. At least that is my, and five of my friends' experience. Too many people. Drinks poured HEAVY. Got a whiskey sour double because they don't take card for purchases under $10. It was basically just a giant glass of whiskey. The inside is kind of gross and the bouncer made sure to card me again after leaving for three seconds to greet friends outside, which I told him I was doing prior. That alone makes this a 2/5. This is one of my top 5 favorite bars in San Diego. Located in PB, this is more of a casual spot with less of the San Diego consortium holding vibe. There's pool tables, cheap drinks and always a crowd. You can find all age ranges here and everyone is just wanting to have a good time. The bartenders are also very nice and make strong drinks. I walked in expecting a dive bar--cheap drinks, maybe a jukebox stuck on classic rock, and at least one regular named Carl holding down a stool. Instead, I got what can only be described as a SHEIN after-hours clearance sale for blackout drunk 20-somethings. The place was absolutely packed, mostly with guys who seemed less interested in drinking and more interested in lining up like they were waiting for their turn at a carnival booth called "Hit on Women." The energy was... unnaturally upbeat. Everyone was talking a mile a minute, moving fast, like they were all running late to something I wasn't invited to. On the bright side, the pool tables were solid, and I had a good time while I could elbow my way in. But the crowd was so overwhelming that by the end I was ready to Irish exit and start a new life as someone who never leaves their couch. I'm soooooooo disappointed! They hired a new bar tender named Maria and she is so horrible and unprofessional . ! She not welcoming her customers service sucks and she even told me ask someone else! She has short hair and put her hand up. Because i asked her for the receipt of my breakdown of my drinks. I always ask because im a business owner for tax purposes but clearly she did not like me. So unprofessional. The security told me her name was Maria and I just can't believe they hired anyone like this!! I've been coming here since i was 26 and I'm 41. Maria can't fill big shoes! Sean is hands down the worst bartender I've ever encountered. His rude, dismissive, and downright hostile attitude completely ruins the atmosphere of Silver Fox. He treats customers with zero respect and acts like he owns the place, making it feel unwelcoming and unsafe. His behavior is so unprofessional it's shocking that the management hasn't addressed it. Loved the ambiance, the bar is incredible. HOWEVER, the service is very unfortunate. The bartender with the spacers is extremely rude. We have been here before and the service was amazing, but with him, it was a different story. We felt very unwelcome from the second we walked in. Upon asking about debit/credit purchases we were met with hostility and extreme levels of condescension. Respect should be given regardless, however it felt as though a certain individual was expected and if you do not fit that mold you are unwelcome. we recently visited Silver Fox while on "holiday" - not too busy for coming around 4ish in the afternoon - ok to bring in food? yup! awesome! first round of drinks for 3 - less than $10 - SOLD - our bartender was pretty great - there are a handful of pool tables. overall, Silver Fox is pretty great [ with a few minor exceptions ] - the regular pool players started coming around 7ish - seem a bit rude [ asking regular bar bystanders ] to get out of their way to only witness a lousy scratch shot even after using their custom cue stick.... other than that. great times, STRONG drinks and great company! cant wait to be back! read more

Yes, it is actually cleaner and somewhat updated recently but overall the chill atmosphere is awesome, if you treat the staff with respect they will respect you back and I always feel safe there. VERY unwelcoming place. Bald bartender was extremely aggressive to me and my girlfriend to the point where there was a verbal altercation seconds after walking in. Honestly this place is super small and super dirty but that's not a big deal for a dive bar... the worst part is how rude the bartenders are! I've been going to this bar routinely and I'm even posted all over their Instagram page... There is a lady bartender that's super sweet and the best. It always seems to have at the minimum a small group of customers any time of the day. 3 pool tables, dart board and prices that bring you back to the early 2000's is refreshing. The silver fox is not clean. If you want a $5 beer and to get kicked out at 2am on the dot in the middle of a pool game. Go there. We went to last call with a $100 bill and the dude said no. While he was pouring shots for other people. We left the bar, one of us from the group left our hoodie inside the bar and they refused to hold it for us. They have no room for people, especially anymore people than 100. The juke box is $1 per song and $2-3 for certain songs. I moved Pacific Beach in 1978. At that time I discovered the Silver Fox Lounge. Shelia and Tommy Meek had purchased the bar and it became a very hot spot to go to .The only underground bar in Pacific Beach. It certainly was the bar that everyone knew your name and then some.The Fox was just plain fun and safe. There were pool leagues with great competitors. They had softball teams costume parties for different occasions. Shelia would put out food for people on the holidays especially for those that didn't have anywhere to go. And, I helped talk Shelia into doing live music. Ray Correa and I were the first people to entertain there. Now, about that cheetah carpeting. I was in the furniture business and I talked Shelia into getting that carpet put in after she had done some remodeling. She was a little skeptical at first but I said you know what,do something different. Nobody else has this at the beach. Some people will hate it . Some people will love it and then some will go what the F! You all can thank me for the carpeting. As time went on, Julie took over The Fox. Julie continued to make it fun, and one of the best bars in pacific beach. She knows what she's doing.After all, she sort of grew up in that office upstairs. If you want to go to a great beach bar, go to the silver fox. If you're a fun person, you're going to have a fun time. And, in a short time, everyone will know your name. read more
