this was the absolute worst experience i've ever had the displeasure of enduring when it comes to people claiming to be a professional outfit, but turning out to be everything but professional. i was hired to begin doing renovations for the owner, ryan crick, at which point he offered to help me regain possession of my tools from a local pawn shop, after my carpentry business had all but came to an abrupt stop due to the covid-19 pandemic. as it turns out, i worked the first day, (and was paid barely over half the rate offered on their ad posted on indeed. they'd offered $25/hr for a competent carpenter with the knowledge & their own tools) gathering materials, & taking notes for all necessary work regarding the completion of renovations which they're looking to complete on mcmillan farms, a completely seperate entity which they'd recently purchased. now, in hindsight, their "offering to help get my tools out of pawn" instead turned out to be a plot for them to simply let me work for that one day, (then smile in my face when i asked about me getting possession back of the tools which they'd agreed beforehand they weren't interested in keeping, but rather were doing me a favor by getting them out of pawn).... all of which, i've got receipts & warranty info to verify my ownership of the generator, miter saw, & cordless skill saw which they're now holding hostage, after claiming to have paid for them only to help me complete work which i'd been hired for. they snuck about picking up my tools after the first day of working, asked if i was coming back to work the next day, and after agreeing that id planned too; they informed me the next morning that they'd decided it took me too long (while shopping with his wife, who was the one driving, ultimately deciding how long the process took) whose unfamiliar with lumber, materials, tools, or anything else relevant to do with construction work, so they decided i wasn't a good fit for the job, but also decided they're going to retain possession of 3 of my most critical tools to my trade, and told me i was no longer needed. After only 5 hours on the clock, (roughly half of which was spent inside of lowes, trying to tell his wife the answer to 2+2 essentially) seeing that I'd went in with a list prepared of all the materials we needed to get, yet it took double the time it should've, and I took the blame, although I was merely a bystander, waiting on his wife to decide whether my professional experience justified the list of materials I'd composed.
