I love Creston Brewery and the fact that it's within walking distance to my house! It's become such a staple for my friends and I to go for happy hour or just a quick stop before heading home. After their acquisition with Saugatuck Brewing Co, it's taken a little bit of time for them to revamp but have recently changed their menu! We stopped in on Tuesday for trivia night (6-8pm) and shared their poutine and got a side of chicken tenders to share. Both were delicious but the poutine's gravy was definitely more liquid than gravy consistency. This is still one of my favorite spots and very much an easy staple for the neighborhood. Very much a bar spot with decent food and good service! Trivia was a little hard to hear as the host wasn't super articulate in the mic, but that's on on Creston. One thing I will say is I miss having a seltzer. They only have a cider (or liquor, not every day do I want to go that hard) but Saugatuck needs to create a seltzer for us non-beer drinkers! read more

Stop #29 on our 2024 Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Tour They were SLAMMED with eager St Patty's Day drinkers & diners. We sat at the bar & props to the barkeep for slinging waters right away while we selected our brews. I had a fabulous Irish Stout Nitro, which was my top beer of the day - creamy, dreamy, delicious. The staff worked well together & a few willingly stayed late to help out til things settled down. (You always hear things at the bar top.) The barkkeps checked in frequently, despite how busy it was, they didn't miss a beat. We didn't have any food here, but we scored a 6er for $5 before leaving for the hotel - woohoo! read more

Wowowow this place is so good! Beer was delicious and fairly priced, food was way too good for a brewery, and service was excellent. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and a soft pretzel with my girlfriend and by god was it enlightening. Everything was very well prepared, and with the impressive variety of meals on their menu (Mediterranean??? At a brewery?? Sign me up), I will be sure to be returning frequently to try their whole menu. Creston Brewery has become one of my go-to spots! The food is so good and the portions are generous. I've tried the jalapeno popper grilled cheese, their brunch, and the falafel naan wrap recently and everything is so delicious. The falafel was not dry and the naan was soft. I loved this vegetarian option and would get it again, but it's hard to choose something to eat at Creston because everything sounds great. I recently had a few bites of Nate's olive burger and it was one of the best classic burgers I've had in awhile. Not super greasy and I didn't feel really weighed down afterwards. Their fries were hot and fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Our friend got the fish and chips last time we went and it was a massive portion with two huge filets! It looked super crispy and delicious, so that's what I'm getting next time. We went for Sunday brunch once and really enjoyed that food, too. I don't drink much beer these days, so I can't really comment on them, but they are a Saugatuck Brewing Company location now, so they offer several of those beers as well as original Creston brews. I love that they often have live music - the jazz during brunch is super fun and really elevates the experience. They also have other weekly events like trivia and bingo. Happy hour runs Monday through Thursday 4-6pm and Friday 3-5pm. The space is very unique and pretty large, so I've never had to wait for a table. Upstairs is an event space that can be rented out. There is plenty of street parking nearby as well as a parking lot across the street. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Creston! read more

Love this place for a weekend brunch. It's very open and kid friendly. On an early Sunday afternoon, they had a sax player playing live music. They have a good variety on the menu for cocktails, food, beer (owned by saugatuck brewing), and a kids menu. Quiche Lorraine, eggs Benedict, and the fried chicken sandwich are delicious. Came here specifically to check out their dog friendly patio. It's not the largest but it does it's job: allows you to drink with your dog. The staff were super friendly and even brought dog treats out to all the dogs, which usually most places just do water, so it was so cool. I'd drink here with my dog again. I'm not usually a huge fan of breweries, but this one has so much personality! The space is eclectic and beautiful, with the tin ceilings and pretty pillars, and the cool bar area. It's spacious and light and with its big windows. I got their cider since I'm not a huge beer drinker, and it was perfectly crisp, not too sweet, not too dry. We ordered the hush puppies as an appetizer; they were incredible, and came with this really good remoulade. I'd go back just for those :) The order is small and simple, so I just got an olive burger, which was great. But the specials looked interesting! I'll definitely be back! read more

The beer selection has maintained some of the Creston beers and added beers from new owner Saugatuck brewing . A nice mix plus spirits from journeyman distillery. That's a bonus for all the non beer folks out there . The food is bar food , but well done , burgers, Reuben, fish and chips etc. The deviled eggs are a Must appetizer. This place absolutely lived up to the hype from my brother and sister in law. The staff were kind and engaged me in conversation, the hush puppies are some of the best I've had since I left the Savannah, Georgia area in 2009, and the beer (with one or two exceptions) is flavorful and well made. They were super patient with me when I sent the chicken sando back twice (it was too salty for me fried, and grilled) and one of the owners came out and asked exactly which part of the sandwich was salty and I felt heard on that point. The folks at Creston really made the difference for me as a patron, and honestly that's one of the things I miss about living here in Grand Rapids. It's the personal level of engagement and the care they put in to customer service. Creston will definitely be first on my list when I return for my next visit! read more

This spot was solidly good. Bought out by Saugatuck Brewing, so they offered beers from both Creston and Saugatuck. Food was excellent. We went for brunch and shared the sausage, cheddar, and potato fritters - excellent - and then I got the chicken and waffle sando, which was very tasty. Definitely a heavy meal, but delicious. Tried the Saugatuck peanut butter porter, which was also quite good. Would definitely come back to try more of their stuff! read more

Upon entering you are welcomed with a smile and plenty of seating. We chose to sit at the bar which was also very large and welcoming. The beers were delicious and idealistic to the Grand Rapids scene. We also wanted to try the food to get the full experience to share with our friends. We ordered the Creston fries with caddywhompus sauce and it was superb. We actually rated them as the second best fries we have eaten since moving here. They were cooked to perfection and the sauce is heavenly. For dinner I ordered the Vietnamese chicken and it was also delicious. The chicken was juicy and the pita was extra warm and soft. Spacious, open brewery a bit off the main drag in Grand Rapids. They have space for a dance floor and I think they have live music some of the time. Went there for brunch with the lady friend on a Sunday around noon and had no wait. Service was prompt and friendly (the waitress chatted with us about Grand Rapids as this was our first visit). We enjoyed the food quite a bit. I got a spinach and mushroom omelette and it was heavy on the veggies which I liked a lot (you don't often get big portobello mushrooms at a restaurant). My girlfriend got the burrito bowl which was a good deal--large portion with rice, beans, egg, and cheese. They also bring out a tray of five homemade sauces that go very well with brunch dishes. My favorite was the smokey flavored one (I forget the name!). Drink menu was excellent too. They have a wide variety of beverage options and, best of all, they offer them in many sizes (e.g., 4 oz, 8oz, 16oz, pitcher). We stopped here on our way home from brunch this past Sunday, and found some new beer that we really like! We started with a flight, which was brought to us in a couple of old records - very cool idea, but not terribly practical as the glasses were difficult to get in and out. We enjoyed the Blueberry beer so much - not too sweet at all, but a lot of flavor! My boyfriend ordered two more pints of the Blueberry and a crowler to go - he typically enjoys ambers or IPAs to give you an idea. I ordered a few others on the menu, and tasted the Rhubarb beer (meh - tastes very very light). My favorite was the gose, which I ended up getting a crowler to go. We didn't try the food since we had just eaten, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked amazing! Next time we're going to brunch with our beer. This time, however, we played cards while enjoying our brews, and that was fun! Creston has a few other games to play, which would be fun if you had a group of people. CB brings back sweet memories for my husband and I when we were living in Portland Oregon...the nation's first microbrew capital. The food is great...love the pork pops, Mac n cheese, fish n chips and the chicken! My favorite brew is the Quimby and my hubby loves the Bokonon. CB has a fantastic vibe..laid back, music, no TVs. Hot damn Creston Brewery! Oh how have you made the block of Plainfield in Creston Heights so much more grown up! Great beer, super selection and some seriously killer food! Oh and spot on service. What more could I ask for. This is what I expect out of a joint right here. We came on Thursday evening as it is literally around the corner from our rental property. Just looking for a beer and a bite but walked away feeling and getting so much more. Ambiance: Very gorgeous brewery. Nice open space. Big windows big areas to sit and chill. It's all good here! Beer verdict: Love a brewery that has it all. Hoppy beers, chocolaty beers, golden beers. You want it they have it. Food: So the food, yeah let's talk about that. Well I could not have asked for a better bite. We had the pork pasole which was freaking amazing. Lots of flavor and the pork was so damn tender. This dish was a winner winner! I really like Creston Brewery! It's real chill and laidback and quite a big space whether you are in a group or looking for an intimate booth with a date. I love that they always have fun stuff going on from bands, to cool drums with lights and even comedy. I actually ended up performing a set for Laughfest this year in their upstairs event space! I came here previously for a GRBlend networking event and KDL (library) organized a brewery tour with the owners which was cool. The beers and food are pretty good and very reasonably priced. The lighting is dim in the evening that's why I didn't post many pics since my crappy iPhone 6S takes the worst pics, I'll be upgrading it once I've saved up for a down payment on a car. Parking: They have a teeny weeny parking lot in the back, but I always find street parking and there's a big lot across the road south of Quimby St. (if my poor sense of direction serves me right?). I recommend Creston whether you are visiting or a local looking for something low key with good food and drink. read more

We ate there before a comedy event. There were 6 of us and no one had a complaint. The fish and chips were very good, comparable or better than ones I had in Kentucky that claimed to be the best in the country. The lamb was good and chicken tenders fantastic. Very happy with the whole package there. They have vegan (1) and vegetarian options. The beer was pretty good too, I had a cloudy ipa and I think CS had the blonde. Many mixed drinks available too and they don't skimp on the booze. Very positive beginning to a great event. read more

This place is great! I had the chicken fingers with fries and my date had the Rigatoni pasta. Both were delicious. Great beer selection. I had the Hazy IPA, one of the best beers I've had in all of Michigan. Sampled a couple others that were both good as well, but the hazy was excellent. Really happy this place reopened. read more

Their chicken thighs were perfectly seasoned and not overly breaded, providing you with a juicy, crunchy, flavorful bite every time. Very fresh hollandaise sauce is true perfect compliment to the poached eggs that explode with a vibrant orange yolk. This a must have! Drink: The Great Log Jam of 1883, Golden age coffee, Nitro. Opting for the chocolate and coffee aroma kept my coffee breakfast aura bright. Smooth and bold making it a spot on recommendation by the staff. Environment : Creston brewery is the gem of the Creston neighborhood. It has an eclectic feel/decor that balances the old school proper infrastructure. Nice neighborhood ambience, table spread out so it's not crowded or too loud. The Pilsner was good enough, so no complaints in the beer department, but the food was of uneven quality and very salty. The hush puppies are overwhelmed by the dill seasoning added, although they are light and were served hot. Without the dill, these would have been fine. The chicken tenders were large but far too salty for my taste. Their accompanying fries were strangely limp and, again, drenched in salt. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant - the food was brought out promptly when ready, and we enjoyed the live music. This was our first visit and we will probably try it again, with hopes the cook goes easier on the NaCl next time. We will ask for little or no salt and see how that goes. read more

My first time at Creston I was unimpressed with their lack of liquor, poor empanadas, and unexciting tacos in comparison with Donkey or Luna but I came back for their 1 yr anniversary weekend and decided to give them a 2nd shot with brunch! The French Pancakes --- not good! These were crepes with liquified berries inside and strawbs and cream on top. I wouldn't order them again as they were soggy and lacking flavor. I had about two bites of them and went hungry the rest of the day. The Chicken Benedict --- great! The two ladies I came with ordered this that came with fluffy spiced potato cakes, crispy fried chicken, poached eggs, and warm creamy hollandaise to pour over top. Yum! The food is amazing. The Blueberry Sweet St tastes fabulous. The musicians performing today are phenomenal. The servers were fabulous about helping me order both my beer and my food.
