I really wanted to like this place cause I love bagels and breakfast food, but it just doesn't hit the mark for me! When you get inside, the building is very old and dated. It's probably been here a long time and in need of renovation. There were croissant crumbs everywhere on the floor. It really needed to be swept. I ordered the salt bagel and got egg, cheese, and turkey inside. The bagel was super salty as the name suggests, and while I'm usually someone who likes a lot of salt, that was just too much. Went to Crestline bagel in Mountain Brook after hearing the positive hype surrounding it, and my experience could not have been more negative. We ordered a pesto sandwich with tomato soup as a side, and were met with extremely dramatic groans and eye rolls from the two male employees working. We straight up asked if it inconvenienced them to take our order, and they sighed again and agreed to make it as if it was the biggest burden they've ever encountered. Sorry, didn't realize your job was to stand behind the counter and just stare. We immediately felt uncomfortable for the rest of the time in the shop. After making my sandwich, I asked the employee for some hot sauce to which he replied "why?" And refused to hand it to me. I reached over and grabbed it for myself as he explained that there was "nothing in your order that would need hot sauce"...okay? Weird and rude. The bagel was fine. Expensive, but fine. My friend got a wheat bagel with strawberry cream cheese that she did not like at all. I took a bite, and noticed the cream cheese was incredibly bland and not up to par for what she paid for it. Extremely disappointed with the service and attitude we received. Surprised the owners are okay with their employees being this incompetent and rude. Extremely bad look for this location. read more

Crestline Bagel is the ideal Saturday morning bite. With a line out the door, and bins of bagels galore, Crestline Bagel had the aesthetics of a busy New York bagel shop, AND the service was still on point. We got a nova lox bagel and used their coffee bar. While comparing this to a NYC bagel shop may be unfair, this was still excellent. The lox tasted fresh and the toppings were well balanced. The bagel, while not as fluffy as NY's finest, had excellent bite and crumb. The everything seasoning hit the spot as well. The coffee bar wasn't anything to write home about, but the coffee wasn't burnt and there were several customization options. Highly recommend this spot for a quick bite! read more

Bagels so good I went twice in one weekend. I was in town for a music festival and tried out Crestline on a Friday morning. It wasn't too busy, we placed our orders at the counter. I went with a egg brekkie sammich on a Salt bagel. I don't know that I've ever had a salt bagel before but now I'm obsessed. I love salt and this gives you All. The. Salt. So dang good. I also ordered a latte, they have almond milk and I believe soy as milk alternatives. Not the best coffee ever, but this is a bagel shop after all. On Sunday, I had to come back for that salt bagel and just went classic with cream cheese and I appreciated the thickness of application. I had not been to Crestline Bagel for several years, and I decided to visit for lunch on my day off during Birmingham Restaurant Week. I was surprised and glad that they had a lot of other options besides bagels. Bagels are good, but at the same time, a bagel is a bagel. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich on focaccia bread with a fruit cup and a ganache brownie. I also ordered a gingerbread man to go. The food was delicious, and I also took half to go. Such a cute little cafe in mountain brook! I enjoy the vibes and atmosphere. Also the food is phenomenal. The baked goods are always fresh and you can even see how they make their bagels. Great bagels, dismal service. I've been there many times over the years but twice in the last month. Both recent visits involved their staff being outright rude to me. They were not overly busy (not a single person in line behind me) and I was polite when ordering. Each time I had a simple question about the item I was ordering. Both times I was met with a sense of frustration and annoyance for having the audacity of speaking to the employee. It was so bad today that I told the employee to not even worry about the item that I no longer wished to order it. His response was so rude that the employee next to him even looked up from the item she was preparing and visibly reacted to his response. I always want to support a small business and their product is wonderful. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I will never be back. Their staff has somehow forgotten that speaking to customers is part of their job and treating them with courtesy and decency is not too much to expect. Okay bagels. Not great service. Bagels are 50% of my breakfast foods. I love bagels. Crestline's bagels aren't bad. They're fine. I got the sweet onion bagel with nova, plain cream cheese, capers, and tomato. The nova isn't made in house, but that's pretty typical of these smaller bagel shops. I did find the variety of bagels and schmears to be pretty limited. I'm not a fan of messing with bagels - no pizza bagels or blueberry bagels for me. So I found their savory options fairly limited. They don't have much beyond the basics. My issues with Crestline weren't the bagels themselves, but the design of the shop and the service. You order basically right where you enter the door, so there's no where to wait if you're further back in line than, say, four people. In addition, there's nowhere to go while you wait for your bagel. It's crowded and not well thought out. Also, the employee making my bagel could not remember what I ordered. I think she asked me three times. Which meant I had to keep leaving my seat to go up to the counter to tell her again. She might have just been having a bad day, but the system clearly wasn't working. Maybe the orders should be written down somewhere? Maybe one person takes orders, writes them down, and then hands it to someone who then makes it? Crestline offers decent bagels. It's a limited offering of cream cheese and bagel flavors, and the service and restaurant has some issues. It's a place I wouldn't mind going back to, but it's definitely not a place I would go out of my way for. read more

VERY generous servings of everything. My sandwich was stuffed, and consequently, so was I! Really tasty and flavorful sandwich, and tender/chewy bagel. I wasn't really big on the punk rock music they were blasting at 10 in the morning. Also the long, skinny shape of the restaurant lends to a bright anterior and gloomy interior of the restaurant. We stopped at Crestline Bagel for a quick bite this morning while out running errands. It was really packed for 10am, but figured that was a good sign! You order right at the counter where the staff is making the bagels/sandwiches, so it got a little backed up as it's right by the front door. The bagel was fantastic and so were the pastries we picked! We can't wait to come back. The only reason we left a little disappointed was because the menu lists an "iced coffee/cold brew." While it was a minor thing, the staff indicated their iced coffee/cold brew was the same thing, so that was misleading as the cold brew is typically brewed differently than your normal coffee. One of the drinks was supposed to be black but had creamer and milk added accidentally. The atmosphere was good and the staff were nice but my bagel was very bad. I figured since it's in the name their bagels would all be really good. I've only been once so maybe it was a fluke but the bagel I got with jalapeño cream cheese wasn't good at all. I couldn't taste the jalapeño at all and the bagel seemed like it was stale. It was supper tough. The shake was good though. I guess I just felt like I could've gotten better food for less at the grocery store. The people with me who got ham and cheese croissants liked them. First time here. Ordered a croque monsieur sandwich for the simple reason that I've never had one before and I figured that today was the day. Had it on a sesame bagel which was slightly burned, just the way I like it. I was asked if I wanted an egg on it and I said yes of course and I found out from the internet that it is then known as a croque madame. I can't say enough about this sandwich. Absolutely delicious. Crestline Bagel does not stint on sesames on their bagels, which is one of my pet peeves. When I order a sesame bagel, I want sesame seeds on them. And there were. Potato salad was uniquely delicious and of course a nice dill pickle spear on the side was the finishing touch. I really really enjoyed my first visit to Crestline Bagel and highly recommend it. I love the bagels here. I'm from NY and this place makes me feel like I'm home again! It even looks like a NY bagel joint. Super awesome! However, the customer service at this location is awful. I've been to this location many times and my experience has not been great each time. I went to the Vestavia location and they were all so sweet. It felt like a different store. At this location, the employees are extremely rude and they do not seem to care about their job or the customers. Customer service sucks, I know, but you have to at least smile. They often roll their eyes or mumble to one another after I order. I'm very polite and patient every time I go but I'm tired of the employees acting like they don't care or as if customers don't exist/ have feelings. The employees would rather talk amoungst themselves than take orders. They often don't see me when I come in and they have messed up my order a few times. I don't mind that part as much as I mind the customer service. They don't greet you, smile or give the politeness of "You're welcome!" or "Have a good day!" etc. I know these are small things to be upset about but it truly does make a difference. If the employees here were as nice as the ones in Vestavia, I would enjoy going. It really is a shame that the employees can ruin someone's experience and not care to make it better. read more

OK, so I am from New York. Melville, NY to be exact. Hard to explain the difference in food tastes and quality. After school my friends and I would ride our bikes to the local Bagel shop and get a Salt Bagel and 16 oz bottle of coke (It had white cane sugar back then). Great memory and taste treat. The closest I have been able to get to that taste is Crestline Bagel Company. My daughter took me there first about a year ago when she lived in Birmingham, AL. We used to live there a while ago. So recently, I got up early, drive to Crestline, parked and got my bagel. It was an everything bagel, NOT TOASTED, with Lox (smoked salmon), cream cheese, tomato, red onion and capers. It was, as my daughter who is a foodie would say, life changing. The coffee was really good also. The morning was quiet and lovely so I sat outside in their café. I'm not sure if it's us, or it was a bad day for the staff, or if our taste buds and food quality expectations are just totally different from everyone else's. But we were utterly disappointed with Crestline Bagels. We've lived in B'ham about 8 months and when my husband and I realized we hadn't had a bagel since we've been here, I immediately went to Yelp to seek a bagel shop. (Where are all the bagel shops?!?!) Based on the reviews, I was excited to enjoy a delicious New York style bagel! We've been to New York several times and spent lots of time in the NE area so we know what good bagels taste like. Even though many previous Yelpers mentioned the frustration with the layout and ordering process, I thought I could overlook all that since some of the positive reviews about the bagels came from people who were from NY or spent time there. Surely the bagels would be delicious, right? Ummm... keep reading. We arrived at 9:45 am on a Saturday and I understand that is primetime for breakfast on a weekend. The line was long and moving st molasses turtle speed, but we figured the long line was a positive sign that the bagels were worth the wait. Not so much. Layout: I agree with previous Yelpers that it's an awkward layout. You order right when you first walk in the door, causing congestion and bottleneck at the entrance - not inviting or welcoming at all. Ordering: I'm not sure what the issue is as everyone seemed to be working diligently. They were completely unorganized, lacking a streamlined system. They took another customer's order (who was behind us) before ours because they weren't paying attention to who was next in line. That only added to the frustration. About 15 minutes waiting in line before we even placed our order, then another 15 minutes waiting before we actually received our bagels. They don't take your name or give a number to let you know your bagel is ready. They just set it up on the counter and move on. If you're not paying attention, someone could easily walk away with your order. So make sure you're watching! Bagels: We both ordered an everything bagel, toasted with cream cheese. They were barely toasted and hardly felt warm and the consistency was too chewy. Very unlike the bagels we are accustomed to eating. And (this is a "bagel pet peeve" of mine) they only spread the cream cheese on one side of the bagel. I mean, if I'm making a bagel at home, I put cream cheese on both sides is that too much to ask when eating out? Are my expectations really that high to expect them to spread the cream cheese on both sides?!?! I seriously doubt we would come back here based on this first experience and we'll order bagels online if we really want them. read more

This is the place to get your New York bagel fix. I lived on Long Island and know a good bagel. Crestline Bagel comes very close to a good New York bagel. Not sure I would walk in a snowstorm at 5am to get a fresh bagel here--true story of life in NY-- but certainly am making Crestline my Birmingham bagel place. I just moved into the area around this bagel shop and I've heard great things so I thought I'd give it a go. Anxious to find a local "bacon egg and cheese" bagel that comes close to the "East Side Bomb" at Bongo Java in Nashville, I tried Crestline's bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. Nice place. Okay food. Today I ordered the roast beef panini. It was nothing to rave about. A little lacking in flavor, but still a decent meal after adding a little hot sauce.
