Bagels were fine, breakfast bowls not too bad, but the "breakfast burrito" was the worst I've ever had: flavorless eggs, ultra-processed sausage cut into cubes, and maybe a teaspoon of jarred salsa. Not good, and made worse by the fact that it was dripping wet (!?). Set your expectations low and steer well clear of the burrito. read more

Friends took me to this place after sightseeing and riding the Tram at Palisades Tahoe and I wasn't disappointed. We all ordered different things and mine was a simple pizza. Crest Cafe is a hidden local gem! I've eaten here hundreds of times over the years and can say the entire menu is tasty and has enough variety for repeat visits. They serve pannini sandwiches, pizza, salads, specials and a bunch of breakfast options including breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, waffles, bagels and breakfast burritos. It's always a difficult choice as everything is very good. There are also a number of vegetarian options, including the best vegetarian chili I've ever had! For beverages, they have a great selection of non-alcoholic drinks, but also usually have a 3-4 specialty beers on tap as well as a lot of bottles/cans alcoholic drinks to choose from as well. Normally a breakfast/lunch spot, they also serve sushi on Thursday evenings which is easily the best sushi in North Lake Tahoe when they do it (not much competition to be honest). Definitely check it out if you crave sushi! Service is amazing and the staff are super friendly. They have some indoor seating, but the patio on the Truckee river is the place to enjoy your coffee in the summer. Lastly, unlike a lot of tourist rip off places in the area, the prices are reasonable and the value for the quality of the food is unmatched. Found this gem of a place when we were staying in Alpine Meadows. Excellent service, and delicious food with a variety of breakfast and lunch items like the breakfast bowl which had eggs, bacon & tater tots all rolled up in one, and we also tried the Asian trip tip mango wrap, which had good flavor. We also appreciated that the items were reasonably priced. We look forward to trying their family style meals that can fit 6-8 people like lasagna and Mac & cheese with bacon. I recently had to rent a desk at a coworking space in the same plaza as Crest Cafe, so I've tried a couple things. For breakfast I got a latte and butter croissant. The latte is good and the croissant one of the best I've ever had. For lunch I got the smoked turkey panini. The menu item comes with grilled onions but I asked for that to be replaced with red onions. The result was delicious. They offer a few options for sides; I opted for chips and salsa, which were on par with everything else, very good. The cafe has an outside seating area overlooking the Truckee river. I strongly support any independent restaurant doing business in Alpine Meadows. But it is tryingly difficult getting lunch from Crest Cafe. The problems are threefold: Fairly unreliable weekday hours, mostly not answering the phone for pre-orders, and for pick-up orders that do work out, there's a single general line for new orders and pick-ups. Consequently it is mostly not possible to get lunch done in 30 minutes, since pre-ordering is a low probability and the line. Unfortunately that means I can't eat at Crest Cafe, even though I'd prefer to get take-out from them probably 10 days a year. read more

Cute and friendly cafe! Stopped by here on our way home from Reno. We were greeted kindly by the staff and I asked if they allow dogs and they do, outside on their balcony, overlooking the clear river. We were able to eat lunch with our dog, with such a cool view of the water. The foods were also delicious! The cucumber salad as a side is something you need to get. Sandwiches were delicious, I just had a hard time biting them as I was scared to break my permanent retainer. Maybe I could've gotten a softer bread if I had asked, as they were very accommodating. The food was fine (not great) but the atmosphere was loud, mosquitoes were prevelant and biting because the cafe keeps the back sliding door open with no screen, one waiter for orders, payment, and serving. . . who touches the money then the dinner plates. I don't know about the food in general, but I do know they have an eye on quality: my dry cappuccino is one of the best I've had in a long time - well-made with not a hint of rancidity (all-too-common, these days), and the chocolate chip cookie tastes like it just came out of grandma's oven. Also: they asked if I wanted my coffee in a to-go cup or in ceramic. You get that less and less these days. When you add all this to this the beautiful river view from the deck, you get the ultimate stop on your bike ride, or just a nice mid-day break from sight-seeing. Wonderful place. read more
