My most recent visit to Donner Creek Brewing revealed a surprise: They make a variety of grilled Havarti cheese sandwiches on sourdough bread! Have you ever had Havarti and sourdough melded together with blessed heat? Maybe a little pickle? You're in for a treat of truly pure gastronomical delight. The beer? Excellent, as per usual, had a pint of the maltiest ale on tap, currently. The grilled cheese was superb. The havarti and sourdough is now my favorite cheese sandwich. This was my repast and refreshment after a gorgeous bluebird day of spring skiing.

Some unique crat beer to be had here. Top that off with absolutely incredible sandwiches and you've got a winner in Donner Creek Brewing. Quick service. Large area so good for all party sizes. Family friendly. Pool table. Awesome bar. If you don't want what is offered on tap there is a fridge of local beers to choose from. Great place to chill and have a craft beer.

Decided to take a photo after I already dove in and ate more than half of it, it was sooooo good.

Two of the best sandwiches I've had in years! We had the feisty chicken and the Berry Marries Bacon which we added turkey. Nice selection of beers too. We had the local summer Saison and the death by potholes Porter. Definitely glad we stopped here for lunch. Would recommend this to all my friends.

Everything about this place is great! Great variety of beers! The service was incredible! I'm a vegetarian and had the Mean and green panini, pesto, artichoke hearts and cheese... it was delicious!! My mom and I bought a growler for my dad since he couldn't tag along. We'll definitely be back!

Walked in and ordered our sandwiches and drinks. The staff is friendly. The restruant is casual and DOG FRIENDLY! I had the feisty chicken and my hubby had the jallapopper sando. Both were spicy. The bread was crispy. The cheese was gooey. There was chicken in every bite and it was tender. The Jallapopper lived up to its claim, unrelenting spice. If you need a quick meal or a drink to quench your thirst, Donner Creek Brewing is the way to go!

What a great stop on the way into Tahoe! Fantastic sandwiches and great beers. Seems like a local watering hole.

One of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've ever eaten. First you check the menu, place your order and go to your seating. There are high tables aw well as low dining tables which was cool. I loved everything in the menu and omg the first bite into my sandwich was just mmmmmmm.. delicious! I loved it. I took the vegetarian option and it was still so goo It's a cool spot that has a pool table, tv and even a game at one of the tables.

We stopped into today to finally give them a try. When we arrived, the place was empty, This gave us a chance to talk to Christina, order a flight, plus one, and put our food order in. The place is tucked in a small strip mall. We enjoyed all 5 beers we had. A farm ale, saison, sour, brown, and a stout. Christina, "the woman show" got out food out quickly and just in time. It got crazy busy all of a sudden. Both the Berry Marries Bacon and Jalapopper were quite tasty. I loved how crunchy toasted the bread was from the panini press, but my wife would have a little less toasty. They also have guest taps and a large case of canned beer, cider, and kombucha. Overall, it's a great pico (smaller than nano) brewery. A separate shut out to Christina. She is super friendly, knowledgeable, and runs the place like a champ. She is literally amazing. We will absolutely be back.

We were in Truckee for a day and my wife came across this place. Breweries are usually a good family friendly stop for us and this was no exception. The people here were fantastic, the locals and the staff. The back room had been converted into a play area for kids which was great. Good beer selection and having NA beer is always a plus. We had a great time finding this place and would certainly come back next time we are in the area.

cute little brewery in the truckee area with very friendly staff! the beers are delicious - highly recommend shrek's swampwater if it is still available. it looks a little murky (hence the name) but is absolutely delectable. would definitely come back if i was in the area!

    Apropos slogan for the area.

We stopped here for lunch after our adventures to the Donnor museum. I wouldn't come too hungry because there aren't a lot of food choices. The sandwiches were good but not substantially sustaining. The gal was a little unfriendly at first but warmed up pretty quickly. You can totally tell this is a local hangout for "locals". The slogan is apropos considering the area. See the picture for a good laugh. There are some games to play and even a playroom for the kids. (I mistook it for the bathroom). My husband enjoyed the beer, but he always likes beer. Said it was good, not off the charts. Have some interesting combinations.

Donner Creek Brewery - Truckee , CA - August 9, 2023 This is a cool little micro brewery located just south of Interstate 80 in a little strip mall to the west of Hwy 89. We came in after a morning of paddling on Donner Lake for some lunch and drinks. The brewery is owned by husband/wife team Greg and Wendy. Wendy greeted us at the front counter as we came in and went over some of the drink options. She gave us a few samples. They have house and guest beers and ciders. They are primarily a panini sandwich shop with some interesting choices, including chicken, pork, and cheese paninis. They have a couple soup choices, soft pretzels, and a gluten free sausage platter. They have ample sitting and the overall feeling is like being at a ski chalet. They have a special play area for young kids as well as a pool table. We split the Berry Marries Bacon panini and got the butternut squash soup. The sandwich was very good and my wife liked the soup. I would have preferred the soup to be creamier. I tried both the Lil'Biskit West Coast IPA and the U Crazy Bro? IPA. Both tasty and to my liking. My wife got a guest cider and liked it as well. They have live acoustic music on Wednesday and Friday from 6-8 pm and pool tournaments on Mondays. They have a good selection of their beers in crowlers as well brewery stickers. This day happened to be my birthday and when Greg found out, he brought me a free pint of a special collaboration beer that had just been kegged. He was planning to submit it to a beer competition. I think he has a winner!

Ask the Community - Donner Creek Brewing

Does this place have a pool table?

YES!! There is a super sweet, custom regulation size pool table (9x4.5') with 3/4" slate, that is free to play!

Do you offer gluten free bread?

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not offer a gluten-free bread option; but we recently added a sausage platter that is GF, as well as a couple soup options!

For years now, I've been saying these guys make some of the best, most unique beers in our area. And anyone looking for a solid pint or some creative things to try, would do well to swing by. Firstly, I absolutely love the location. It's a cozy little spot in the north Truckee industrial area. But step through the doors, and you enter a space that can only be described as a mix of hippy commune and witch's lair, with some delightfully quirky decor, and an incredibly friendly staff. Really does feel like a hidden gem. But as for r the beers themselves; in short, I think these are some of the best quality, and most niche types of brews you'll find around here. They have a smaller menu, but what they have is dominated by their Forest Beer series. These are concoctions made with all sorts of foraged ingredients from the forests, fields, and farms close to Truckee. Always changing, it is something to try out. The Borrowed Bines used fresh cut hops, the Bay Shore uses locally culled bay leaves, the Range of Light uses picked juniper berries, and the Dirt Candy uses mushrooms that grow in the woods. They also have been breaking into brewing their own apple cider, which is delicious but quite strong. Plus, they will usually have N/A options with their house lemonade or brewed soda on tap, too. So yeah, the menu almost certainly has something for everyone. Prices for everything are pretty typical.for the area, usually around $8-9 per pint. Though my one sort of gripe is that the smaller 4-5 ounce tasters are like $4 each, a bit pricier than most other tasters, so that makes it quickly more pricy to try out a lot of their menu. If you want any beers to-go, sadly they only offer a few at this juncture, and in bottles. And there is no food here, just a few snacks for sale. But make sure to browse their swag stands, as they have some eclectic merch. All in all, I definitely encourage any beer fans to come and check this spot out. Been one of my favorites for years, and I'll bet it can easily become one of yours, too. Cheers, all!
