We came on a Sunday and there were quite a few people, many relaxing in their own chairs while their small dogs played. All the pups were friendly, and there was plenty of grassy space for them to run around. The large dog area also looked very nice--clean, spacious, and completely empty by the time we left. Kids going down the slides could get burned- recommend putting up shade to avoid future liability issues. Overall a beautiful park w a good amt of shade, multiple parking lots and multiple picnic areas. Too far for us to come regularly but likely coming back for the train ride during holidays when I think they usually have a Santa there. (You need advance tix for this)

A few chairs are available for owners, plus a little swimming pool filled with water for the dogs. The grass and shade trees make it extra inviting. It's clear this park is very well cared for.

My issue is no dog poop bags, there is a dispenser on the big dog side that appears to have been abandoned and nothing on the small dog side. I actually avoided this dog park for awhile because of an initial "ok" experience and some of the…read morereviews on here. However, recently I decided to venture back because it is so close to where I live, which makes it a lot more convenient than the other local dog parks. I've been here three times since, all on a weekday evening. The good: huge area for the large dogs to run around, with plenty of grass. Dogs have plenty of space to play with each other, or wander away if needed. The main sitting area is also away from the entrance, so I don't feel like my dog gets mobbed when we first get in. All the dogs so far have been really friendly and well socialized. It definitely seems like there is a regular good sized group of people who go at the time I have been going, which is nice. People are friendly and seem to care about how their dogs are acting/reacting. Poop bag canisters are always well stocked. The ok: along with the grass there is also a lot of dirt and some muddy areas, which is a bummer when my dumb dog decides he wants a mud bath... The bad: out of all the parks I've been to, this place seems the worst with owners cleaning up after their pets. I understand its a grassy area and sometimes hard to find, but I keep an eagle eye on my dog at all times and usually after doing a few minutes of searching, am able to find where he pooped. Along the way I usually find 3-4 older poop piles. I pick up what I can, but it would be nice if people were more considerate about that. No one wants to step in poop, or have it get on their dog to bring back into their car. There also tend to be some homeless always walking around the park as other reviews have mentioned. However, I haven't been bothered by them. I feel like there are less around right now too because its summer and there appears to be a lot of sporting/family activities going on in the evening. Might be different when the weather and sunlight hours change. Overall, the park has been really good. My dog seems to like it too, which is the most important!

Watch out! Our dog only has an allergic reaction when going to the small dog park at Carmichael…read morepark! She literally will choke and cough for 12 hours after going to this place. We have had her checked by our vet and she has no condition to cause this sort of reaction, so the park is suspect all day long. I don't know if they are putting chemicals on the grass, or what, but this is bs and we will never take my dog there again. Two weekends in a row now she has had an allergic reaction from going there. I hear other dogs coughing and gagging while there as well. Take your fur baby someplace safe, because this park is not at all.

I've never seen this park over crowded. Sometime the regulars combine their small dogs with their bigger dogs. But it seems like it is a universal agreement amongst the regulars who go there at a certain time. The yards seem to be kept fairly clean as I haven't found any droppings yet. I wish they supplied bags though, just in case the owners forget. Other than that, great neighborhood dog park.

I'll stick to my quality poop bags and having her do her business on cue, in peace, elsewhere, thanks. Decomposed granite only, no grass either side. Both sides small to medium in size. Larger joint transition area compared to other parks. Right outside the dog park are several metal tables with 4 charcoal grills. Dog birthday party setting? Haha. Plenty of street parking including spaces under the overpass for warmer days. Loved that there's a large grassy park across the street with benches. We ate there and it was peaceful enough but the road noise from Howe Avenue is a bit much. The overhead power lines at the two parks are a bit much, too, particularly at the dog park. One great feature is the easy access to the American River Trail and the levee trail. Go for a road run, trail run, or walk towards Watt Ave or Cal Expo. Overall, my dog and I don't need to come back because it grossed me out, but it was a great outlet for my dog to get her sniff on.

Shade some hours from the big tree. Cons: small side has A LOT of dead grass with stickers. The big side has flooded near the gate the last few winters. It's a dirt floor, so it gets super dusty. The benches usually have pee on them (but it's a dog park). The small dog side is really big and could've been made a little smaller to adjust for the big dog side to be bigger.

For the longest time I did realize how extensive the roads and parking is into this area as generally my entrance into this park is off the Bike Trail. It makes a great stop for picnics or for a quick restroom breaks. Activities: There are a lot of open fields, picnic areas, and water areas to explore off the river. One thing is that I would caution exploring the waterways around here as they can be deceptively fast and dangerous. There is also a great handicap accessible fishing areas off the farthest parking lot. Great for working and watching the waterway from the Harold Richy memorial bridge. Cons: It is a self-pay park so important to keep in mind. Can be a little hard to find but is straight down Arden Way.

Lots of parking and the trail is easy to spot from the various lots they had available, There were a variety of picnic areas, bathroom facilities and walking trails. It's close to neighborhoods in Carmichael, which is nice for people who live nearby and can walk right over. Access to the bike trail was my main reason for visiting and the trail itself warrants its own review. Minus one star, as having an option to pay entry by credit card would be nice. I mean, who has $7 exact change that they carry with them these days? Anyway, I would likely use this park again for a jumping off point for trail rides. Nice, clean, scenic suburban park.

Cant fault the park for disrespectful owners on large side or small side but just want to warn others. They usually have many tennis balls for dogs and multiple plastic pools for the dogs to enjoy. That being said please do not bring any females in heat. Keep an eye on appropriate dog play. Out side the park keep your dog on leash when leaving the park or entering give others space. And clean up after your dog if it makes a mess or poops.
