Small but full kitchen, which was perfect for prepping our meals for the next day. Beds were super comfortable. And even though it was extremely hot outside, the AC did wonders inside the RV. Tucked away in a nice little corner of Shingletown, there is so much nature all around you here, and it is so incredibly peaceful. There's even a nice little nature trail that takes you by a large pond and you end at a beautiful waterfall. Easy to park at your site, and it was about a 20ish minute drive to the Manzanita Lake Entrance to Lassen NP. While Shingletown is small, there was a Dollar General, a great pizza place, and a coffee house that was within a short drive of the camp. Overall, we had an absolutely wonderful stay here and would 100% return.

The setting is gorgeous--towering trees, peaceful forest trails, and a dog-friendly play/agility area that our pup loved. The sites are level and full hook-up, and the grounds are spotless and well maintained. We enjoyed wandering the Cat's Eye Trail at night, spotting glowing eyes along the way--it was such a fun and unique touch. We would happily stay again.

The nearest gas station is 30 miles away in Chester. We only found one restaurant in the area. So make sure you bring everything you need with you. We stayed in Cabin 8 by the stream. It was quaint and cozy and a good size for two people. The cabin needs to be painted and updated. In my opinion, it needed a deep cleaning. Ironically our cabin had one bar of service. I think including paper towels is a must. Quite honestly, most places we have stayed at provide the least expensive paper goods possible. The places I always remember are the ones with plush towels, soft tissues, Kleenex, paper towels, and quality bedding. Overall, it was a relaxing stay in a very remote area.

I love the sand garden for kids to play with in the front. Theres also horseshoe and tether all. The beer garden looks beautiful as well. Sadly we did not get to enjoy some of these perks as our schedule was a little packed. Next time I hope we can try it out. The walking paths of different colors was a fun treat for my kids. They kept wanting to find the art pieces all around. We did the purple, pink, turquoise, yellow and rainbow trail. Next time I'd like to venture to the other side and try out red and finish yellow. The viewpoints/lookout area is magical as well. The places we wanted to visit this trip were all around 30 min to an hour away from the park. Not bad but not too close. That's the price you pay to be in an area surrounded by the woods and beautiful blue skies. Every camper was friendly and waved as you walked. If you have not been here and are undecided just do it! It will be a truly wonderful experience. I think I'd like to go back when my kids are older. I'd prefer to get the chance to read next to the fire here. First time in Redding; first time in over a year to reunite the family since the CoVid pandemic…read more Out of all the RV parks in the area we looked at, we're glad we went with Mountain Gate. First off, our experience with customer service over the phone was always pleasant. They answered our questions, found us the accommodations we needed (we requested an RV spot and cabin) and made the necessary adjustments. Bridget and Patty were awesome! Next, we loved the location: right off the interstate and easy to find. Chevron and Shell, among others are just outside. It's also located next door to the Forest Ranger Station. From here, plenty sights in Shasta and Redding are an easy drive. Third, this RV park is well-maintained and carefully kept in order. It is definitely small compared to many other RV resorts: their sites are tight, they've no individual firepits, grill or camp rings, and there are no other fancy amentities (which is just right for these times of social-distance protocols.) The shared showers and toilets are cleaned daily and garbage bins are rarely overflowing. Some sites have a patch of grass, while others have gravel. Some have sturdy plastic picnic tables; others have wooden ones. All sites have shade from mature trees; which is also great for some nature sounds by the birds as well. There is a nice pet enclosure for the dogs to play and romp around leash-free. There are only 2 cottages and we're so glad we lucked out on one of them for the Memorial Day Weekend. One of my aunts is semi-disabled so it's hard for her to camp out in the heat. The cottages are a perfect complement for a family like ours. All in all, we were so pleased with our stay over the Memorial Day Weekend. The owners and staff are great--very hospitable and respectful. They enforce certain rules and guidances inside the park but it works for a peaceful, enjoyable stay for every camper. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves back in the area!

The sites are clearly marked which made navigating very easy. The only drawback is that the sites are close to one another so your neighbors are very close and some freeway noise. The dining car was a special treat, the meal overall was very good but could have been better with a little attention to detail. The rigatoni pasta dish was absolutely perfect , popping with flavor and as good as any I've ever had. We ordered a couple glasses of pinot noir with our dinner and when they arrived they were noticeably warm like 80-85 degrees like they had been roasting in the sun , not a pleasant room temp like they should be. We also ordered a large caesar salad that we all split and the lettuce was warm like it was sitting in a window soaking up the sun, plate was not chilled and even if it was it couldn't have cooled down hot lettuce, salad was light on dressing , the halved petite romaine was very bitter, i've purchased this lettuce at costco a couple times and stopped buying it because the petit romaine tends to be very bitter, i love the consistency of the smaller denser heads of lettuce but the bitterness is unpleasant .....hopefully the chef is tasting his food and can see what he thinks. My wife ordered the pasta with shrimp and loved it! My dad had the rib eye and said it was pretty good but maybe not 57$ good. The pasta dishes were 10/10 amazing , reasonably priced and generous in size , the warm wine and salad is an easy fix, it was a nice treat after a week of camping and cooking to not have to , so highly recommend giving them a try for dinner during your stay!! Mountain scenery was incredible from the campground!! The pool was a little crowded at times but we enjoyed a couple hours of pool time both days. The host in the campground Frank and his dog Reno were great !! We really enjoyed our visit and wouldn't hesitate to stop in again, a lovely place to spend a couple days !!! Thank you!!!Cheers !!

We've been going to railroad park resort since the 1990's and eating there every time we come through town - 2-3 times a year. They used to make a great steak, with a deep dark sauce with mashed potatoes and veggies. I recently ordered the steak - $58.00 - making it the most expensive entree in the area (including the high end places in Mccloud, etc) and it had no sear. was under cooked. Had no seasoning. No sauce. The potatoes were rubber and the veggies were gross. The pork chop was similarly under-cooked and had the same sides -so same feedback. I looked for a manager to talk to and couldn't find one. So I messaged them on facebook and they told me I could come by any time and talk to the cook. Where was the cook the night I was there? I was told there was no manager to talk to. I only eat their when vactioning and can't just pop in. I live 5 hours away. If they're going to raise their prices from $40 to $60 for a steak - they need to up their gave. Instead they dropped the ball. The food isn't worth it and they don't care.

The electrical pedestals are older, so I'd recommend bringing a surge protector. The sewer hookup at our site sat well above ground, making it difficult to properly drain our tanks. The small trash cans and some of the older yard décor also made the park feel a bit dated. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return because of the convenient location and spacious sites.

Given dogs aren't allowed on the Lassen trails, it keeps me at ease knowing they are within reach. It makes life easier with full hookups. The pups can enjoy the comfort of the trailer while checking off trails we have yet to conquer. This park is a bit different from the norm. They promote saving electricity and that's a good thing. However, they do expect you follow the rules by refraining from using high electric consuming appliances such as your air conditioner. Otherwise, pay an additional fee.

We got in late so check-in was in the restaurant. The RV park is behind the post office. The restaurant was really good and the servers are very nice. Many reviews mention a mean old man that works there and it's true. He is grumpy. The price is reasonable and they don't over-charge for dogs. We will be going back.
