Yelp reviews don't lie. George has been fixing jewelry for 33 years! He's super chill and provides professional level of customer service. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and George is really fun to talk to. If you ask, he thoroughly explains the details so you know what you're paying for. For mine, it was $5 for battery and $2 for pins. He fixed my watch as good as new. The band was completely detached from the case. If you're worried about getting ripped off, seriously, don't. I tried to give this map some tip, but didn't take any. The quote I got from Michael Kors was over $50. Definitely save your money and go to George!!! He puts his initials inside the watch. In case anything were to happen, you can go back and ask him to fix it again. *GoogleMaps directs you to 620 South Street, but make sure you go to 1113 Chestnut Street. There are other jewelers near my work, but I'm so happy I went out of my way to meet George.

"That lady over there," George says, "she's been coming here since she was 15." I was a little doubtful bringing my 300 dollar wind-up hamilton watch I got as a graduation present to this place. It was a small kiosk in the Galleria mall -- how much would the owner know about fixing watches? But I trusted my Yelp instinct given all the positive reviews. I walk up to the kiosk and there's George, his hands covered in grease and wearing magnifying glasses to fix watches with. He deftly opens the wind-up watch and stares at it -- I think I had wound it too tight (a metaphor, i know). A-ha, he says. There's a bent spring somewhere. He takes a tiny tool and moves the spring back a little, shakes the watch, and smiles. The watch starts ticking again. "It's a good watch," he says. I offer to pay him, and he shakes his head. The least I could do, I told him, was write this review. He has a guy he can send wind up watches to if it ever breaks, but for now it looks like I can just let it unwind for a day, and keep the winds to 10 - 14 a day, maximum. Life lesson from George.

You will not find a kinder, more honest, and more attentive to details watch repairman. George is outstanding. He really took the time to fit a bracelet through fine adjustments of the links on my daughter's watch. He made adjustments until it was just right and was not satisfied until we were 100% satisfied. I Googled "watch batteries 19103" and this Yelp page was one of the first. I was going to be in this area, so I took six watches in for batteries. I was most concerned with my light up, musical Christmas sweater. The wire to the sound was broken and I was hoping that he could fix it. The batteries were replaced but George informed me that an electrician would have more expertise as my sweater went. BUT...he does love a challenge so he managed to solder the wire to the correct spot. It would have worked but I lost the sound box and I felt like an idiot. Six watch batteries and an attempt at a Christmas sweater: $30. REALLY. He didn't charge me at all for the solder. I tried to tip him but he went out of his way to give me a ten instead of two fives so that I couldn't. George was so nice, I wish I could give him ten stars. read more

A silver pendant I was gifted had a loop too small to fit on any chains I owned. I found Creative Silver through its great Yelp reviews and would recommend it to anyone. The shop is small and unassuming, but George is an extremely skilled jeweler. I had first tried a few stores on Jeweler's Row, and they recommended buying an entirely new (and costly!) chain. Instead, George simply added loops to the pendant that were large enough to accommodate my current chain (2 loops, to be specific, to ensure that the pendant wouldn't twist on the chain) and soldered them on---while I waited!---all to the tune of a mere $10. His workspace has the magic of an Old World craftsperson, every inch covered with tools and bits and pieces of jewelry and watches. A hidden Philadelphia gem! read more

Such a wonderful experience. I had a stockpile of watches that needed new batteries, broken necklaces that needed soldering or new links, and even earrings that required new hooks. I dropped it all off with George, ran some errands, and within an hour everything was ready. The prices were between $5-10 a piece, which was discussed up front. Plus, there is a 10-month warranty on the watch batteries in case anything goes wrong. George was so friendly... I'll definitely be back! read more

I've been going to George for a few years now. My husband and I take all of his watched and our rings to get cleaned and repaired. He is a class act. Located in the ground level of the gallery. I got links taken out of my watch for $5.00. I was in and out within 5 mins. Great service, fantastic personality. Also, George (I think that's his name) told me to save the links, wear the watch for a few days and if I want to add them of take more out he'll do it for free. Fiance and I had two watch batteries die within about a week of each other. Being fairly new to Philly, Yelp is my go-to for finding service providers. George and Creative Silver came so highly recommended, I decided to give him a try. He changed the batteries in our watches while I stood there, and they were about $5+ some change. He engraves his initials on the battery, so if it dies within 18 months, you bring it back and he replaces it for no cost. Not too shabby. I also had him replace the crystal on my watch -- it's about 7 years old and horribly scratched. He had to send it out, so I was told to come back the following Friday. I came back the Monday after that, and for some reason the delivery person hadn't returned, so I was told to come back on Tuesday. I was a little put off by this, since I gave my phone number when I left my watch. Since I was told to come back on Friday, it would have been nice to have received a phone call saying it was going to be another four days before my watch was ready. Not a deal-breaker, but it was a ding on my opinion of the customer service. Ended up costing me about $30 for the crystal and the battery replacement. You can't beat that. Bottom line: I will definitely go back if/when I have more watch-fixing needs. read more

EXCELLENT. What a great place. When I arrived at the counter, there were 6 other people and he balanced everyone very efficiently. I needed my watch re-sized and it took 10 minutes and I thought it was a little too tight and he immediately put another link in. It only cost $5.00! You cannot get much better than that. Great service, great person, great place. read more

George (the owner) took out a link on my watch to better fit on my wrist. He was courteous, fast, and the watch fits perfectly now on me. The charge was very affordable at $5.40 (have been charged double/triple that at places outside the city). Will definitely use him again for future watch repairs! : ) read more

Hands down the best watch repair in the city. George is probably the friendliest merchant in the entire mall and great at what he does. I've been there twice to get watch adjustments and repairs, and either he was able to make the fix right then and there (and did it for free), or had it ready the next day. The second time I was there (which was several months after my first visit), he remembered my name - pretty impressive. Best customer service experience ever. Skip Jeweler's Row and go see George (the only time I will ever suggest going to the Gallery for anything). read more

I didn't know his name but everybody's saying George. He's genuinely a good guy hard-to-find nowadays. I brought in a black diamond bracelet which he charge minimum to fix and clean right on the spot. A couple weeks later I'll brought in a black Ego drive citizens watch. After waiting a few minutes he took the watch made a quick bend at the clamp and said "come on man give me a real challenge" and did not charge me a dime. You're definitely good to go with this guy ..best wishes read more

Amazing service! He changed my battery watch within minutes when I noticed he does jewelry repair as well. He was able to replace a small diamond in my ring that I have been missing for months at less than half the price I was quoted prior. Went to Creative Silver for the first time today. I had links added and a battery replaced on my Swiss Army watch. Cost was about 10 bucks. George was great and fast. He promised to change out the links for free if I didn't like the fit and gave me a warranty on the battery. What more could you ask for? Great business. read more

I work right in the middle of Jeweler's Row but decided to check out reviews before going to get a bracelet adjusted. The reviews for George were spot on! Not only was he super friendly, but he did not give up on my (super cheap) bracelet. He shared that it might not be possible to take out links without completely breaking the bracelet (again, a super cheap one so I didn't mind the honest assessment). However, he was determined and managed to not only fit it to my wrist but also made the left over link in to a future necklace. After all this work I was expecting to pay way more than he charged. I felt like he genuinely cared about customer service and loved his work. I will definitely be back with some watches. Thank you again, George!! read more

This place is wonderful! I registered for Yelp just so that I could write a review--Creative Silver is the kind of quality, honest, friendly place that you really want to see succeed. My watch stopped working several months ago, and I was told by another jewelry repair service that I needed an entirely new motor/movement for some $50. This sounded like a lot, so I brought my watch here to Creative Silver. George took a quick look, got upset when I mentioned that someone had tried to charge me $50, and then fixed it on the spot for $5.40--the price of a new battery, plus a quick cleaning to boot! To be honest, I would have paid more for such great service. Very honest, very friendly place. I'll be happy to return. read more

$5 battery replacement for any type of Watch. After reading the reviews, I brought my Movado there. He changed my battery and shined my watch within 5 minutes. Good as new. Before here, I called a place that gave me a $65 cost to change the battery on Samson St. That's a rip off. Bonus points on that fact that he is so pleasant. . read more

Yelp doesn't have enough stars for me to give George the rating he deserves. Beyond nice, funny and more than fair. He not only replaces my watch batteries, but cleans and polishes them, all for about $5/each. Jeweler row charges you triple that and none of the extras. Give this man your business. read more

Be sure you visit the new location on South Street (no longer at Market East). If you need any type of jewelry repair, look no further. Repairs are competed fast and at a reasonable price. You will also get an honest opinion on what you need and won't be sold or talked into anything you don't actually need to buy. The five star reviews are well deserved. read more

Then after spending $2k he tries to chisel me for another $40 for an extension that he promised he would do as a courtesy if we needed to make an adjustment to the chain length. I can get a $40 extension anywhere. Then he gets nasty and belligerent with me. Not a good move John. Sorry John. Your loss, not mine. Maybe you can learn something about how to deal more courteously with your customers. I will gladly take my business elsewhere.

Additionally, then she showed me dome beautiful red lucky bracelets. However, my has was too big. She offered to make one my size. She is amazing, and l loved her professionalism. My partner ((L)GBTQ) and I walked into an empty Bario Neal to see engagement rings at 11:45am. We were told that an appointment was coming in at noon but with three sales people loitering around the spacious and empty store we didn't think much of it, especially because we came prepared. We came with a list of the four rings we wanted to see to be efficient. I was surprised that despite claiming "we strive for inclusivity at every step, from a non-gendered design ethos and comprehensive sizing," the store only had small ring sizes to try on, with almost none of the engagement rings fitting on my ring finger. I'm a trim 5'6 cis woman hoping to try on more feminine rings: if you struggle to be inclusive of me I doubt anyone who is more gender expansive than myself, or even someone with a more full figure or is plus-sized would have a much better time. The scheduled couple walk in at 12:15, a man in a literal yacht club quarter zip and a petite woman with a balayage. The woman working with us lit up and rushed over to say "hi!! My name is Meghan, welcome!" We were ushered out of there so fast our heads spun. We realized that Meghan didn't even bother to introduce herself to us. If your business does not want walk-ins just say it. Don't be wishy washy. And don't claim to be radically inclusive if you don't have at least a second size of sample rings. I'm not going to bother wondering if they were less bullish for my business than a man's in a yacht club quarter zip, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

We didn't end up buying anything, but overall, good experience!

After nine years, I *finally* decided to propose to my girlfriend, and as any guy would, I wanted both the ring and the experience to be as special as possible. I started out at two local jewelers recommended to me, but each left me feeling like I just went to the big box jeweler that begins with the letter 'K' in the malls across America. Each tried to sell me a premade ring and said they could "modify" it to "make it custom" if I wanted. No thank you! I then went to Harry Merrill on the recommendation of a family member and met Rob and Nicole. What I experienced there was something entirely different. Starting with the stone(s) and building the setting, Rob advised on what would make the best ring, took the time to answer my 101 questions, and listened to everything that I wanted. I must add that I am pretty OCD about purchases that are much smaller than this, so you can imagine what I put Rob through! He was patient and kind the entire way and gently guided me in a direction that I did not think I wanted to go in at first, but looking back I am incredibly glad I took his advice. Once everything was set into motion, Nicole stayed in contact every step of the way and was so accommodating when I had questions or had to pop in to make a change, which there were numerous instances of. What I proposed with is a one-of-a-kind piece that is timeless, elegant, and stunning. My fiancée absolutely loves the ring, as do I. Whether it is an engagement ring or an everyday piece, do not overlook Harry Merrill & Son; if you do, you will be missing out on both bespoke quality and a 10/10 experience... We cannot wait to go back in and design our wedding bands!!

The humble and friendly Hispanic man I worked with (possibly the owner, not sure) was extremely professional, courteous, insightful, and had an overwhelming desire to make sure your needs are met precisely to your specifications. He was an overall pleasure to work with. He made doubly sure that the watch I brought in fit me comfortably-- even if it look a bit more time tinkering around. He also replaced my watch battery in what seemed to be an instant. The best part about my experience was that everything cost me only a measly 10 dollars! The service here is nothing short of amazing. I have taken several watches to George to have links removed, crystals replaced, new bands, batteries installed etc. One time I literally had barely finished explaining my need for a battery before he had it replaced and ready for my wrist. There is also an astonishingly wide assortment of great silver jewelry for such a small stand. George was so friendly and honest. I went there to have the battery replaced in a watch that had stopped working. He opened the watch and said that the battery was still good but it was a little oxidized. So he cleaned the battery for free and now the watch works perfectly. I know many places that would have just replaced the battery and charged me anyways. I will definitely go back when I actually have to replace the battery next time. read more

The staff here was very knowledgeable and helped us pick out the perfect design for our bridal sets. We had support the staff full support and they answered any questions that we had. I used Creative Silver to repair a necklace based on the positive reviews I read here and let me tell you: he's wonderful. I gave him my necklace and he worked on it for a couple of minutes and handed it back to me good as new. And then he didn't charge me because "it didn't need to be soldered just the links tightened."
