I have a single ear cuff my partner gifted me that wouldn't stay on my ear. I brought it to Cuggini hoping to tighten it. It's a quite layered structure and I wasn't sure if it was doable - prior to visiting Cuggini, I visited another jewelry repair store in Fashion District and the lady there said that she wasn't confident in resizing it. The guy at Cuggini was very knowledgeable - as soon as I explained the situation and presented him with the ear cuff, he put on his special eye glasses to closely inspect it. Then he took the ear cuff to his work station and started shaping it with his tool. A few seconds later he came back and asked me to try it on. I was very surprised and tried to put it on - it was too tight. He took the ear cuff and went back to his station and did some more shaping, then came back again. While I was trying it on, he pointed me to the mirror and offered to hold my beanie cap. Finally it was adjusted - in total it took less than 3 minutes - and I asked him how much did I owe him. He just held both of his hands together in front of his chest and hinted that the answer is merely gratitude. I said many thank you to him, and he said "I knew it just needed to be tweaked just to the shape of your ear. Next time come back when you have something more complicated." Cuggini is on the corner of 7th & Walnut; you have to walk up a flight (no coincidence) of stairs to get to the unpretentious shop where, if you need any jewelry repaired or rebuilt - especially a piece that is truly important to you - you will thank me that I directed you here. I recently brought a nondescript twin diamond ring to Jim at Cuggini Jewelers to be reset. He was professional, kind, and patiently answered all my questions. My partner and I came here to get his wedding band sized down and a family heirloom diamond ring of mine sized up. James was so patient and easygoing -- he answered all our questions and was concerned about making sure we got what we want and were comfortable with the process. He even invited us into the back room with him and talked us through everything he was doing. I never doubted for a moment that our rings were in good hands. The results are beautiful -- you can't even see where he cut and expanded the band on the diamond ring, and the wedding band looks better than it ever has. He even suggested that we wear the rings overnight and come back for adjustments the next day if we wanted to at no extra charge. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but had such an amazing experience at Cugini working with Jim that I just had to. I went to Cuggini to have a few stones on my engagement ring and wedding band tightened. Jim carefully and with lots of detail, walked me through the entire process of checking for loose stones, how to care for the rings to avoid loosening stones in the future, and gave me tips for cleaning the stones. I asked around some of the best jewelers on Jewelers Row until I met Ann Marie at Sydney Rosen. She looked at the ring- and the damage the jeweler had done- and said to come with her. She walked me down the street to this small little storefront I've walked by a million times. She introduced me to Jim of Cuggini Custom Jewelry. He explained how (and probably why) the last place screwed up and exactly what he'd do to fix it. With the bad luck of the last setting, I decided to switch to a deep blue sapphire. It was done in a day and it looks stunning. I was expecting him to charge me 3x the amount (and it would've been worth it!), so I'm even more appreciative. Wonderful service! I brought my Nana's wedding and engagement rings in to be resized to use as my rings for my wedding THIS weekend. He turned them around in a day ( could have been sooner but picking up the next day was easier for me). They look absolutely amazing and fit perfectly! I received a pair of earrings from my grandmother that had many loose diamonds. Two other jewelers quoted me between $200 and $300 to tighten them, but they wanted at least 4-6 weeks to do the repair because it was the Christmas season. I ended up giving the earrings to a third jeweler on Jeweler's Row who told me he could do it in a few days, but when I went to pick up the earrings, I noticed that so many stones were still loose and that he had only tightened one stone. Upset, I wandered up and down Jeweler's Row looking for someone who could help me and ended up at Cuggini Jewelers. When I showed him the earrings, he took one look at them and said, "let me take care of this right now." I was shocked and scared it would cost a fortune to have an on-the-spot repair, but James only wanted $20. He even invited me to sit with him and double check his work as he made the repairs; he didn't want me leaving unhappy. I had over a dozen loose stones and he triple checked each one to ensure that they were all tight. I cannot express enough how kind and patient James is. He is reasonable, experienced (he used to craft jewelry for Tiffany's), and his workmanship is perfect. I later found out that other jewelers on Jeweler's row send their repairs to him too. I will never go to another jeweler, you shouldn't either. read more

If I could give Jim 10 stars, I absolutely would. He is by far the BEST jeweler and customer service provider my husband and I have ever encountered. So the story is that my husband and I are newlyweds and came in to have his wedding band resized. I called several jewelers ahead of time, and even on the phone, I could hear the genuine care and compassion in Jim's voice. Little did I know that he is even more pleasant to work with in person. When we brought in my husband's wedding band, Jim took one look at it and told us it would cost about $20 to resize it from a 8.5 to an 8. That was HALF the price that all of the other jewelers were quoting (some of whom just rudely refused to give a range at all). He went even further to say he would resize it while we waited. Again, this was ideal, and no other jeweler offered a similar service. The best part, however, was that he performed the entire resizing right in front of us! We basically had a personal first row seat to his truly remarkable skill and craftsmanship, something very rare these days. He walked us through every step with a kind of meditative finesse I have never seen before. I was in awe of how quickly and precisely he performed his work. After my husband tried the newly resized ring on a few times and determined it was the right size, Jim polished and buffed it into glowing oblivion. It looked five times as good as it did before (and it's platinum!). We were so enamored with it that we actually asked him on the spot if he could fix my engagement ring, which had lost a stone in the halo just before our wedding. He again quoted $20, which sold us on the spot. He evaluated the reason for the lost stone, walked us through it - even teaching me how to evaluate the stone on my own through his jeweler lens, and then he meticulously replaced the stone. He polished it into glittering perfection, just as he did the wedding band. My ring looks unbelievably stunning, even better than it was before, and I keep getting compliments on it days later. We paid him cash (he only accepts cash BTW), and when we left, he gave us a deeply respectful namaste goodbye that elevated the entire experience on another level. My fiancée and I were trying to get her ring resized this past weekend, and I called around to a bunch of places in Philadelphia. These places said they would take anywhere from a day to a whole week to do it, and from $50 to $100. I called Mr. Cuggini, and he said he'd be able to do it in 15 minutes for $25! Better yet, some of the other Jewelers I called said that I should check into Cuggini's, because that's where they send out their rings to get resized! We went in 20 minutes before closing, and he sized her finger, cut the ring, soldered, filed, burnished, polished, and steam and ultrasonically cleaned the ring in 15 minutes. The joint is invisible. He even gave us the small section if ring that he had to remove. I highly recommend Mr. Cuggini for 'while you wait' ring resizing. He represents the best value around, and struck me as a true craftsman that brings all of his experience to bear on each project, and takes pride in his work. read more

Just picked up my custom wedding band from Jim and couldn't be happier with the whole process and the finished result. All in all I felt like this was less of a business transaction and more of an old friend making my wedding band. We spent some time going over what we wanted, what designs we liked, etc. and he really got to know us and what we were thinking and intrinsically wanted to make us happy. After making some drawings we came back a week later to a wax mold of the shape and size to try on and after some final tweaks he had it made within a few days. I have had Jim make up multiple pieces of jewelry over the years. I was directed to him by one of the other jeweler's on "jewler's row" because I was trying to get my mother's old diamond necklace remade into an engagement ring for my then future wife. I walked into his very unassuming establishment, and he proceeded to take a modest group of diamonds and arrange them in a one of a kind, showstopping engagement ring - and I couldn't believe the price. He has since made our wedding bands (I gave him carte blanche on mine, and it is very unique) an eternity band, and truly fascinating black pearl drop necklace with modest diamonds.
