I'm writing to bring your attention to an unfortunate experience my husband and I had at your…read moreShepherdstown location this past Tuesday around 4 p.m. After unsuccessfully trying to reach someone directly, I felt it was important to follow up, as I would want to know if I were in your position. We've been loyal customers for over 12 years and have always appreciated the charm and warmth your store offers. Unfortunately, this visit was quite the opposite. My husband--just a week out from emergency surgery--was on his first short outing. We were both wearing masks for medical reasons. While that shouldn't matter, the staff member behind the register treated us with clear hostility from the moment we walked in. I greeted her politely, but she responded with an eye roll and a visibly unwelcoming attitude after looking at my mask first. That is ableism. Before my husband even entered the store, she abruptly and rudely asked, "Um, is that a service dog?" I answered honestly that our dog was not. Rather than calmly explaining store policy, she became increasingly short and vague. When I asked for clarification--since we've previously visited with our dog after receiving permission--she abruptly mentioned the health department had "just been in," and seemed flustered when it became clear we were unaware of any new policy. The tone throughout was dismissive, confrontational, and deeply unprofessional. Others in the store appeared just as surprised. It wasn't just about the dog; it felt discriminatory and ableist. We were simply trying to enjoy a brief outing and pick up a gift, but left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. This experience does not reflect the Shepherdstown community or the reputation your store has built over the years. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I would appreciate a response, and I'm happy to revise or remove my review once this is addressed--it was simply my only way to reach you when other attempts failed.

It's full of curated artsy and rustic decor and household goods, jams, teas, clothing, and a very imaginative selection of toys and trinkets. The store is bigger than you think, with at least three rooms behind the welcoming front room. There's parking right out front, and they were open on Memorial Day (2025).

The building is divided into multiple rooms, one of which includes a fireplace with books and rocking chairs. Another resembles a second-hand clothing store, and the last is a mini-hardware shop. The store boasts a delightful collection of old-fashioned trinkets. Along the shelves are everything from old-fashioned toys, to glass cookware and vinyl records. The location is also home to a working blacksmith shop in case your horse needs a new pair of shoes. I loved the display of Raggedy Anns and Raggedy Andy. I still have my Raggedy Ann from many, many years ago. She's in a cedar box now to keep her safe with my other memories from growing up. I'd be worried about one of the doggies getting her now. I would be surprised if you did not find something here to purchase. [Review 15608 overall - 60 in West Virginia - 1112 of 2021.]
