We used to live near Shepherdstown and would come into the shop a few times a year. Sometimes we…read morewould find really great stuff, and other times the selection was lacking. As a plus size woman, I was delighted to find quite a few really great things in my size at one of the first times in the store. I'm sad to say that for almost every subsequent visit, that was not the case. I want to validate the other review that mentioned the surly woman behind the counter at the store. I came into the store dozens of times over 10 years, and she was always surly when she was there. In fact, I once asked her about plus size clothing, since I had had such a successful purchase in the past, and she argued with me about whether or not they ever carried larger size clothing before. In the last couple of years before we moved, I found myself curious to go in, but also not wanting to deal with her. Overall, a decent shop, though inconsistent. Four stars for merchandise quality and selection, and two stars for the surly woman who works there, for an overall review rating of three stars.

This shop is everything you're hoping it to be and more…read more Need some funky pens? Tiny tea cups? Funny socks? Jewelry? Vintage clothes? Books? They've got it all. It's certainly a smaller shop but it is jampacked with magical things. My boyfriend and I probably spent at least half an hour in here just wandering around. We both ended up buying some things to take back home. It was just definitely a fun little spot to explore while in Shepherdstown. I hope this place stays around for a very long time because I'd love to visit again someday.

We've been loyal customers for over 12 years and have always appreciated the charm and warmth your store offers. Unfortunately, this visit was quite the opposite. My husband--just a week out from emergency surgery--was on his first short outing. We were both wearing masks for medical reasons. While that shouldn't matter, the staff member behind the register treated us with clear hostility from the moment we walked in. I greeted her politely, but she responded with an eye roll and a visibly unwelcoming attitude after looking at my mask first. That is ableism. Before my husband even entered the store, she abruptly and rudely asked, "Um, is that a service dog?" I answered honestly that our dog was not. Rather than calmly explaining store policy, she became increasingly short and vague. When I asked for clarification--since we've previously visited with our dog after receiving permission--she abruptly mentioned the health department had "just been in," and seemed flustered when it became clear we were unaware of any new policy. The tone throughout was dismissive, confrontational, and deeply unprofessional. Others in the store appeared just as surprised. It wasn't just about the dog; it felt discriminatory and ableist. We were simply trying to enjoy a brief outing and pick up a gift, but left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. This experience does not reflect the Shepherdstown community or the reputation your store has built over the years. Thank you for taking the time to read this. So good for the skin. I try to get to the shop now whenever I'm in town. Since then the owner completed has her esthetician training and hopefully will be able to give facials etc in the shop - she has plans I think for two locations. Even before she completed her training she seemed to have excellent knowledge about skincare products and oils for different skin types and conditions. When I asked her about a certain skin condition she didn't try to sell me a product but acknowledged that it was very hard to treat and there was nothing "magic" out there to fix it. So I really trust her recommendations, besides just loving the oil she makes and sells. This IS a tiny shop, but make sure to stop by if it's open. I don't buy a lot of skin care products in general, and when I do they often sit unused till I throw them out, but not these ones. Also they smell great!

We have had problems with Mary for over a year. She will gleefully look down her nose at you and work diligently at making you feel like an unworthy intrusion. We are both successful highly educated professionals (one with PhD and one with Masters +) and make a very good combined income. Yet, apparently, we are not good enough to grace Christian's Shop. Yesterday, we were clearly told by Mary to come into the store today to get my Rolex watch band replaced while we wait. Mary stated, "Yes. Tomorrow will be good because the Christmas rush is winding down and the goldsmith will be in." So, we arrive today, even rearranged my work schedule to do so, only to be told by the long haired woman that "Mary clearly told you that you could drop it off today, but that the goldsmith couldn't get to it until well after the New Year. I even overheard her conversation with you yesterday." We confronted her on this (my wife heard all yesterday as we were on speaker phone), but these ladies stuck together and vehemently denied all. . . downright willing to lie! Unbelievable! I was hoping to actually talk with Christian today to initiate a 2-3 ct diamond custom anniversary ring for my wife. However, since we have to continuously deal with these very unpleasant women, we will have to find someone else. So sorry Christian! You may want to rethink your front desk staff, as I seriously believe they are harming your business.

I was promptly told…read morethat it would cost me $15.00 JUST to have them cleaned and checked, because "I didn't purchase them from Christian Caine." I was even planning to do some browsing, and who knows? After this news, I left, without looking at any merchandise. Christian Caine, It's a shame... Honestly, I know of several stores that clean and check stones at NO cost as a customer courtesy, no matter where these rings have been purchased. I will take my business elsewhere, Thank You.
