O'Hurley's General Store is fun, the very definition of eclectic :-). Every little thing I ever wanted, and many more that I want now that i've seen them. It's full of curated artsy and rustic decor and household goods, jams, teas, clothing, and a very imaginative selection of toys and trinkets. The store is bigger than you think, with at least three rooms behind the welcoming front room. There's parking right out front, and they were open on Memorial Day (2025). read more

Over a hundred years old and founded as a supply depot for nearby orchard farmers, this was also a grocery store for a time and even a gasoline station. The building is divided into multiple rooms, one of which includes a fireplace with books and rocking chairs. Another resembles a second-hand clothing store, and the last is a mini-hardware shop. The store boasts a delightful collection of old-fashioned trinkets. Along the shelves are everything from old-fashioned toys, to glass cookware and vinyl records. The location is also home to a working blacksmith shop in case your horse needs a new pair of shoes. I loved the display of Raggedy Anns and Raggedy Andy. I still have my Raggedy Ann from many, many years ago. She's in a cedar box now to keep her safe with my other memories from growing up. I'd be worried about one of the doggies getting her now. An absolute delight of a find! Everything about this store is great. The selection, the pricing, the staff! We happened upon this on a trip from Boonsboro to Harpers Ferry and I am so happy we found it. The atmosphere is perfect for that historic area of the region and it's like a trip back in time. If you're a fan of music their "Thursday Night Jam" CD is worth every penny. I can't wait until we can actually attend one in Person. This shop is 100% worth the stop. read more

This place is very unique with loads of things that once you start looking around you will think I was looking for something like that. There many different rooms to explore through then once you get to the back room there is hand made furniture that you can purchase and on Thursday nights the locals come down and play live music. Old General Stores with a true authentic feeling are slowly diapering in America, but O'Hurleys is keeping this feeling alive. A very cool shop with all types of Knickknacks, Toys, Candy, Hardware etc. The one thing that separates this store from so many is the little blacksmith shop in the back making old fashion nails, and other cool house-ware items. Lots of unique items. Collectors may find things like old signs. You can get some hardware that would be used in "century old" type homes. I also think their furniture, which is vintage country, is reasonably priced. We are planning to build on our lot nearby in WVa in the next year or so, and will be returning here to pick up some items to decorate our home. read more

We have been coming here over the past five years. The employees are friendly and helpful. I have purchased several black bristled brooms. The general store is on 230 and offers a variety of products. We have bought pumpkin butter and a cow bank. The store also has nice furniture. Liked their rocking chairs. read more

Beautiful old store and a step back in time. Always warm and inviting. There are folk music jam sessions open to the community every Thursday night. When I visited Shepherdstown, WV, I dropped by the visitors center and they recommended I stop by this business. I went in and it appeared to be a quaint little country store. I'll admit, it was cluttered but somewhat charming. As I walked through the store, I saw the normal nick-nacks and antique reproductions that you normally find in any souvenir shop that caters to tourists. Some items, like the Lodge cast iron pans that I've bought in Target for $10 were selling for nearly twice that price. Again, it was a typical tourist shop and it was stocked as I expected. That is, until I saw the sign on the wall. Up in front near the cashier, was a sign that read "Unattended Children will be Sold as Slaves." Now, I'm not saying that I experienced any overt racism here, but a sign like that in a store in the south, is not very welcoming to minority customers. Certainly not any minority customers with children. Maybe they think that its cute or funny; but in reality it is not. It's pretty stupid and I immediately decided that I would not be spending my tourist money here. Maybe others have done the same but they'll never know as long as that sign is up. read more

The Best Place to Shop for stuff Merry Christmas O'Hurley's! I'll miss the annual Christmas session in the back of the store. Magical when it is snowing, or anytime. This is a great place to find something for everyone on your list and things you won't find just about anywhere else or hadn't thought of but turn out to be just perfect for that person hard to buy for. This is not a tourist trap by the way, but a community place, like many other places in town. Tourists (like me) are welcome but not required! read more

A cute little general store tucked away in a small town about an hour and a half outside of DC. The store has a wide variety of cool little knick knacks ranging from wooden chairs to old children's toys, and even a selection of several jams and jellies! I have stopped here on a number of occasions. I love this store. It is so warm in the wintertime when you walk in because there is a wood burning stove. Right next to it is a large fluffy cat. This store has lots of unique items. The back room usually has some thing to drink and snacks. There was a large cast iron pot in the fireplace with a ladle to serve warm apple cider. The perfect shop for both tourists and locals to keep alive the family-owned general store. The folks that run this shop truly care about the community and its culture. They've helped me find just the right hardware for my renovations, even down to giving me some washers from the owner's private workshop he maintains in the back. They host community jam-session sing-alongs in their beautiful great hall. Sure, some of the items are just for tourists, but much of the merchandise is a celebration of local culture. I bring all of my out-of-town friends to O'Hurley's, and I try to buy something every time, just because I want to support this wonderful quaint store. And for those who would be concerned about any offensive signs (see previous review), I believe the most offensive antique-style sign now reads "Unattended Children will be given a free kitten and a shot of espresso". The owners are very worldly and culturally sensitive, and would want everyone to feel welcome in their store. In fact, for those who wish to spend their money in a socially conscious manner, ask the owners about their Fair Trade artisan products, while supporting a locally owned family business. read more

This is a funky general store that is totally worth visiting. Definitely stop in here while in Shepherdsdown, an equally wacky destination. Give yourself a half hour to browse around an incredibly diverse selection of products from high-end soaps and toiletries to cast iron pans and wood furniture.
