I have never been so confused or offended by a customer service experience. I started coming here because my sister highly recommended Ivy, and I even referred two friends who now go here regularly because of how talented she is with nail art. I trusted her creativity, always took her design recommendations, tipped over 20% every visit, and was never a high-maintenance client. I also have a lot of respect for nail technicians because my mom was one. I understand how demanding the job can be, which is why I've always been patient, understanding, and appreciative of the work that goes into every set. I was respectful of Ivy's time. I always made appointments, arrived on time, and despite that, I regularly waited 15-30 minutes before she was ready for me. I never complained because I understood that things happen and wanted to be an easy customer. The same went for the quality of my nails. When my top coat peeled or gems popped off shortly after appointments, I never came back asking for repairs or refunds. I simply accepted it and continued supporting her because I valued the relationship. That's why I was completely blindsided when I walked in today and was told by the owner that Ivy no longer wanted to do my nails because my "energy was weird." No explanation. No conversation. No prior issue. Just turned away. As a paying customer, that was incredibly hurtful and embarrassing. If you've ever supported a business, referred new clients, tipped generously, respected their time, and given them grace when things weren't perfect, imagine being told you're no longer welcome over something as vague as your "energy." [[HIGHLIGHT]]I made an appointment over the phone for Gel-X removal and a new Gel-X set. At no point was I asked whether I wanted nail art/designs, which I didn't think would be an issue at a nail salon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived, I had to explain the design I wanted to three different people. Two of them weren't even my nail tech-- they were explaining the design to her for me, which honestly should've been a red flag from the beginning.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I showed an inspiration photo for a design they initially said they could do, but pretty early on it became obvious that the nail tech assigned to me wasn't capable of recreating it. I ended up switching to a different, simpler design and showed her another inspo photo instead. While she was doing the chrome, I noticed immediately that it looked completely different from the inspiration picture. The chrome was extremely shiny and glittery compared to the softer finish in the reference photo. I asked her multiple times about it, and each time she brushed it off and said she would put something on top later to tone it down. I kept trying to trust the process, but it became harder and harder. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entire time, the other worker-- who later ended up taking over my nails-- was sitting right next to us and had clearly overheard me repeatedly questioning the design, especially the chrome, and pointing out that it looked much more shimmery than the inspo photo. Despite that, he never stepped in or checked on the situation until I directly asked him myself.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Things got worse when she started the 3D flowers on my last two nails. The first flower already looked noticeably different from the inspo, so I had to keep correcting it. Then she showed me the "finished" flower on the other hand, and not only did it look nothing like the inspiration picture, it didn't even match the flower on the first hand. At this point, I had already been sitting there for around 2.5 hours with nails I was extremely unhappy with. I eventually asked the more experienced worker -- who had been helping explain the design earlier -- to take a look. He immediately agreed that the chrome looked wrong. He ended up taking over my appointment entirely and had to redo EVERY SINGLE NAIL by drilling off some of the previous work. He redid all of the chrome, 3D art, and even parts of the French tips because the original work was that poorly done. The appointment ended up taking 3.5 hours total, which is much longer than any Gel-X appointment I've ever had, especially considering most of the time was spent fixing mistakes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What disappointed me most was that after all of this, there was no apology, acknowledgment, or attempt to make the situation right. The only thing I was told was that I should mention ahead of time if I want designs because "not everyone at the salon can do designs."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] That response confused me because: 1. I did explain I wanted a design as soon as I arrived. 2. If certain techs can't do nail art, appointments should be assigned appropriately from the start. I honestly wasn't planning on leaving a bad review- I still tipped despite everything lol-- but it's now been only 5 days since my appointment and one of the charms has already fallen off. On top of that, the gold charms have already tarnished, which has never happened to me before at any other salon. You can also see in the photos that my cuticles were over-filed/over-cleaned to the point that they look irritated, and there's visible excess gel on the sides of several nails. Came in to change my color of my week and a half old gel x set and my tech kept saying if I got them done there and I responded no but they are a fairly new set and while drilling off the old color she kept telling me how my nails are lifting and water is getting in. Lady there was no water inside and no lifting at all. I think they wanted me to get a new set! My nails are very sturdy and strong. I had an absolutely horrendous experience. I would like to preface with the fact that I had been a loyal customer for a long time. Get your popcorn and a drink because this will be long. I went in for gel X on Tuesday, June 2nd at approximately 4pm with my friend. I asked for a French tip with a bow on the pinky and pearls on the 4th digit. It was a relatively simple design. The French tip was uneven, the nails were thick, the bow was asymmetrical, it looked like I needed a fill despite them being a fresh set, and the base color clearly needed another coat. [[HIGHLIGHT]]During the appointment, I kindly asked the technician several times if she could make the French tip even. She became passive aggressive and even my friend noticed she was being rude.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This was very off putting because despite being unhappy with the nails, I remained respectful and utilized manners when communicating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the end of the visit, I was completely unsatisfied with my nails. Prior to paying, I asked the male receptionist (who claims he is a manager) if I could get them fixed and showed him the nails. He agreed for me to return to get them fixed which I was very appreciative for[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, I also stated the technician was rude and he did not say anything regarding that. He did not demonstrate proper customer service as he was not apologetic or had sympathy for a customer leaving with subpar nails that costed $80 and experienced a rude technician[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I returned today, June 4th at 12pm to get them fixed. Just when I thought my experience couldn't get any worse, it did. Way worse. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I got a new technician. At the start of appointment, she did not greet me. She was not welcoming at all.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She refused to fix the bow design on the pinkies stating "if I do, it's going to look more ugly since we are different technicians" More ugly? So she knows the design is ugly yet doesn't want to fix it. That is not acceptable after paying money for these nails. She then proceeded to state that the designs by hand are impossible to be symmetrical. I explained I completely understand that it won't be exactly the same. I don't have unrealistic expectations, I was just hoping for it to look like they TRIED to have symmetry. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She asked me how I liked the French tip and I was trying to explain I don't like it all the way to the end of the nail like how my nails were when I came in that day. She responded, " I don't care how they were before. I'm asking about how you want them now." Excuse me?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then asked her if she was the manager and she completely ignored my question. I asked if she heard me and she responded, "she is focused on doing my nails"[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She then later asked me a question and I didn't completely understand but eventually I guess I answered her question and she responded "that's what I was asking you." [[HIGHLIGHT]]I straight up told her she did not have to be rude. She did not respond.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At this point, I got upset because despite paying so much for a manicure and not being happy with the results, I was putting my best foot forward and remaining respectful and cooperative, especially because I was appreciative they were willing to fix my nails. However, the hostility was completely uncalled for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At the completion of the appointment, I asked to speak to the manager. The male receptionist stated he was the manager and asked to speak to me outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I expressed gratitude for them allowing to fix my nails as I came in cooperative and respectful and the tech was rude and provided the examples above. He stated that I was picky and I have high expectations. He saw nothing wrong with the technicians behavior. I was SHOCKED.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told him I highly value customer service and there are so many other salons. He interrupts me and states there are many other customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] WHAT. Oh my god. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told him that he does not value his customers, especially given the fact that I had been a returning customer.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He repeated that I'm picky. He stated the other technician took 3 hours and any other salon wouldn't have done so. He proceeded to say they are the cheapest nail salon in the city with good quality. Oh, and he blamed me for uneven nails because I kept turning my head to speak to my friend who was getting a pedicure. What about the other issues I had with my nails? Were they my fault too? Completely lacked accountability. [[HIGHLIGHT]]So in this conversation I realized the "manager" does not value excellent customer service or his customers. I'm a licensed professional in the beauty industry so I was very happy to see that all of their tools are properly disinfected and sanitized. I came here for a removal last week and it was not a good experience. I did not have an appointment; I just walked in and asked. The tech that removed my nails was rough and dug too deep into my nail beds. The nail drill hit my finger at one point which caused my hand to jerk back. It honestly made me super uncomfortable that she was looking away while she was actively using the tool.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] How can one not pay full attention when doing this? I kept noticing little indentations she would leave in my nails when she was looking outside and not looking at the work she was doing. I always judge a nail salon based on how they handle removals. I truly feel they should still put care into their work whether they are removing or doing a manicure or anything else. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If they prefer not to do removals for whatever reason, I'd rather they just decline versus agreeing to do it and rushing through. It's important to be gentle and make a customer feel valued regardless.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I fully planned on coming back here if I had a better experience. I will say that the salon itself looked nice and clean, and I liked that they accept cash, card (with a $2 fee), Zelle, and Venmo. I asked for a simple design with a heart in the middle, but the heart did not look good at all, so I ended up not getting it, I went with simple color and it still did not come out good. My nails were thick and lumpy. The polish did not look smooth at all. I asked them to fix it and the whole time, the lady who was "fixing" my nail was complaining that she did not see anything wrong. I don't do nails and I can clearly see what was wrong. I left unhappy with my nails and ended up getting them redone at another place. (Picture for reference) If they can't see whats wrong with their nails, they need more practice before doing nails for people.
