I love everyone here at Creative Hair Spa. They are so nice to their clientele and also so chipper with each other (which I think is very important!) I first went here in the late winter/early spring of 2011 when I was thinking of what to do about my nails before I went to Aruba for my destination wedding. I had heard about Shellac and wanted to try it out. I found out Creative Hair Spa did from the CND website and I am so glad I came. Since my first manicure with Ximena I've been back many times and have taken both my sister and mother here for manicures and pedicures with the wonderful staff. I have also seen Lena for eyebrow threading/waxing. I definitely prefer the threading over waxing through because I think it is a lot more comfortable and is a lot more precise. In the future I think I'll be trying a facial and/or a massage here. Definitely a recommend for people in the Park Slope area for excellent service and great price! read more

This is a nice unassuming hair salon, and for me what really works is that Mimi cuts my hair, and I can run across the street to the Y and get a shower to rinse off! Haircut quality quite good, and price reasonable. I have a really thick, straight mop, and I think they handle it well! Occasionally she is rushed, and then cut looks it...hence the 4 stars. I always refuse the blow dry since it costs extra and I never do it myself anyway, so wouldn't make sense to get it. read more

Extensive googling led me to Creative Hair & Spa when I was looking for a salon to have both hair and makeup done for myself and my bridal party for my wedding this summer. Customer Service: I cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. Everyone was wonderfully warm and welcoming. I must've called the salon to make small changes in times and number of appointments for a number of extended family members during the weeks prior to the wedding; Senada (who manages bridal packages) was unbelievably patient. The morning of my wedding I was greeted by a sign and balloons outside the door welcoming me and my bridal party, a very thoughtful touch. Our hair and makeup! Everyone looked gorgeous! Short and long hair styles, updos and curls, different taste in makeup, everyone looked stunning for the wedding. My our hair and makeup lasted all night, and even into the next day (who wants to spend a half hour of their wedding night taking out all those bobby pins?!). I've been going to Stephen for my hair cuts and color for nearly 5 years. He's so fabulous that I've followed him from his previous salon to Creative Hair & Spa. He's someone that I've come to trust completely so much so that when he recommended I chop off my hair a few years ago, I did -- and haven't gone back since! Although I am a medical doctor, I sound White on the phone and I am quite unassuming. When the person acting as the receptionist saw that I was Black things changed. (Even though an earlier phone call to make an appointment left me feeling irritable, I decided to give the business a try.) Suddenly, instead of asking one question at a time, the person asked five/six questions in a row, as though trying to get to back out of an unexpected situation. (Did I mention that I sound White on the phone?) and get back at me. When I called her on it, she tried to say that she was trying to help me and insolently added, "Do you WANT your massage?" Then tried to get me to pay for the service PRIOR to receiving it. As a mature (Think: older) Black woman professional, I find this practice of asking for payment prior to receiving non-medical services insulting and unprofessional and I do not do business with spas who do ask for payment prior to rendering services. As I was then leaving, the nice and pretty words the person uttered had demeaning, racist, and rude undertones. I do not work for the spa. Shocked and disappointed. I've come here twice before to get my keratin + highlights done. This time they completely pull a price out of their butt, it was super awkward and frustrating. I had just gotten my hair done HORRIBLY at another location--my hair was literally half brunette at the top, then pure one-tone blonde at the bottom. The top had random splotches of blonde here and there. It was so bad. I went in and saw Nita. She knew just what to do and understood what I wanted. She turned my hair from a disaster into looking beautiful and feeling soft and amazing. She KNOWS what she is doing!! I will absolutely go to her from now on. I come here regularly to get my hair dyed, cut and blown out and I've never been unhappy with their service! Amazing head massage as part of the washing of my hair. She is a joy, and I don't want anyone else touching my hair ever again! Recently, I decided to take advantage of the Friday special. The price for a spa pedi, regular mani, and eyebrow wax was really reasonable. Lina took such good care of me. She has magical, therapeutic hands. She is very kind and has a very relaxing way about her. I have to say that Bibi and her staff treat everyone like royalty. I had a black tie wedding to go to, and really wanted to get an updo. I knew about Creative Hair Spa through a friend who had her hair and her bridesmaids' hair done for her wedding. I loved that they have an Instagram account and was able to follow them and see all the amazing work they do. I made an appointment with Senada V. I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she got to work. She took her time and we had a friendly conversation while she worked. When she was done she asked me if there was anything I wanted to change, and of course I said no. It was perfect! I had brought with me a pair of false lashes in the hopes she would have time to apply them for me last minute and when I asked her on the spot she happily agreed to help me! I drove over half an hour to get to the salon because I thought they would be worth it, and once I was done I could absolutely confirm that! This will be my only place for updos! read more

This is my new favorite hair salon. The staff there are all very friendly and the inside of the establishment is beautifully decorated. As for my hair it looks amazing! My hair has been through a lot and they have brought it from a dull jet black color to a beautiful brown with highlights in one process, while keeping my hair healthy. Changing my hair color was a long process because it was black yet I was comfortable the whole way and my hair stylist was a great conversationalist and even gave me advice on how to take care of my ends and what shampoos to use. My hair has never looked so good and I finally feel confident with my hair. I'm so glad I found this place and will definitely come back and recommend it to all my friends and family. read more

I have been going to Creative Hair and Spa for a umber of years now. I followed Stephen from two other establishments to this one. I can't speak for the spa part so I won't, but I can speak for Stephen's brilliant work with color and a cut. I often color my own hair (to save a few dollars and a bit of time in the salon) and without judgment Stephen smiles and makes a few adjustments that make my rather amateur job look lovely. He didn't charge an arm and a leg for color. Of course I have had the two-process treatment from him and have received rave reviews and I find it worth the money. He knows what he's doing with color better than anyone I've known. He's great with a cut and knows what can flatter you so you can trust him for that. I haven't had the experience of directing him on what I want because I trust him to do right by me. He's a warm person and makes the experience a real respite from the daily grind. Pat often washes and conditions my hair and she's a doll. It's a good neighborhood place with warm talented people. They take credit cards for payment but you must tip in cash. read more

This salon is great ! The prices are pretty decent for the neighborhood. The whole staff is wonderful welcoming and super nice. Never an issue with waiting when you make an appointment. The two who stand out for me is Sanela who I have been going to for so many years, she knows what I like and delivers each time. She can revive my hair after a year of me neglecting it then she is clearly GREAT at her job !! The Second is Lina I also been going her faithfully for my eyebrows it took about a year and half for my eyebrows to finally grow in the way I wanted but along the way she constantly shaped and groomed them. She never messed up not even a tiny hair ! ZERO CLASS. I started going here 2 years ago. It's a little too hooch for me but I found a great stylist I loved, Aerial. She gave me great hair and color at very reasonable prices. She moved out of state and referred me to another stylist here. I did not like what she did--I asked for non-stripey hair and I got exactly that. I have now found a great girl as Birds and Fellas in the East Village but out of being broke, I thought, I will just go to a girl that I had been to once at Creative before I met Aerial, Needa. She was OKAY and I knew that she could just do a root touch-up. UUGH, BIG MISTAKE! I asked for blonde roots with a slight touch of strawberry red. My hair is copper, which was what I specifically said I didn't want. Aerial always charged me $40-$60 for the same but this girl wanted $140!!! I asked why so expensive and told her what Aerial charged me. She said she was charging $40 for a blow dry--if you get a service done, the blow dry is $5 extra, standard. She said since I won't get a haircut from her she is charging me that much for a blow dry, so I might as well get a haircut. UM...I didn't WANT a haircut and I was pretty broke so couldn't afford it. She was super bitchy and even went right behind me to another stylist and was talking about me. Haha, literally behind my back laughing at the whole thing and about the price gouging; I pretty much knew at that point I was going to get a bad root job. She then proceeds to another stylist a few chairs down and talks about me some more. I am hearing all of this, mind you. She is NOT trying to be subtle. I am getting so red in the face but just thought to myself that I would Yelp about it and Never Come Back. After the root job (it was sooo red!) I was sitting in her chair with soaking wet hair. I asked her if I could use a dryer to at least dry my hair a little before walking out. She said no and then went and grabbed several other stylists and they all came at me and started saying that I cannot use a dryer since I'm not paying HER price for a blow dry. Wow, HOOCHY AND BITCHY these women are! Yet I still ask for my measly Facebook discount. They said if you "Like" them on FB, you would get a 15 % discount. I did that but never got my discount. I was there maybe 2 months prior and they said NO PROBLEM, use it NEXT TIME. So I asked and they said I couldn't get my discount. A gang of stylists were only a few feet away bitching and being really rude to me while all this is going on...with soaking wet hair and a bad color job at that. The owner comes over and I tell her about when I was there 2 months ago and forgot to use it and at they said No Problem, just use it next time. She finally buckled and said fine, I could use it. Wow, I was so upset when I left about the whole ordeal. The price-jacking was insane, the bad (on purpose) root job, and them not allowing me to use any of the hairdryers to lightly dry my hair. But all of them ganging up on my and constantly talking about me so that I could hear it! This place is like a bunch of high school Mexicana Mean Girls that just sit around all the time and gossip and probably fight the nice girls when they have time off. So it was one of those days that I randomly decided to get a haircut. I usually get my hair done in the city, but as I'm on a budget decided to look for a place in Brooklyn. After a long morning, I found this well rated establishment and called right away to see if they can see me that day. Upon arrival, the receptionist shows me to my hair stylist (Lita) who gives me a dirty look and sends me right away to get my hair washed. When that's done, she straight out asks me what I want. No consultation. I tell her I want layers and not more than 2 inches off. Apparently she understood it as 5. After like a 5 minute haircut, she blow dries my hair and apparently there's an extra charge not included in the overall price. Fine. The total comes up to $50 which is more than the $35 I was planning to spend. On top of that, my hair is horribly uneven in the back and looks like I tried to cut it myself. Thanks a lot! This was the worst experience I ever had at a salon. The only reason this place even gets 2 stars is because I don't think everyone there is as inadequate as my hair stylist was so if you do decide to give it a chance, just make sure you don't get Lita. read more

The ladies upstairs are very knowledgable and experienced. I usually work with Ximena for nail services and she always does a great job. She's also fantastic with eyebrows. Haven't had my hair done there in quite a while but the occasions where I have, I've walked out quite happy. I came here this past Thursday to get my hair highlighted and had an amazing experience with Senada B.! First off, my hair was in pretty sad shape when I came in - I have long, blonde hair that hadn't been highlighted in over a year, meaning I had pretty bad grown-out roots towards the top and yellowed highlights the rest of the way down. Senada talked me through the process of bringing some life back to my hair, which included thin blonde highlights and an overall toner to even out the roots. Over the next three hours, she meticulously worked my hair, and in the end, it was worth every minute! My hair is a beautiful, multi-faceted blonde color now with no visible roots - she worked a miracle! On top of the great service, the pricing at this salon is very fair considering the Park Slope location. I'll definitely be back for touch-ups! read more

I'd actually rate this 3.5 stars, but am rounding up. The positives: Steven cut my hair, and he was very pleasant. He marketed a number of products and treatments to me, but didn't push me to buy any of them, which I appreciated. I feel like I got a better sense of how to take care of my hair after speaking with him. He was efficient, and his styling lasted for three days with dry shampoo (my hair tends to lose shape in about a day when I style it myself). The negatives: On the pricey side for me (I didn't realize that I'd be charged separately for a cut and style, and ended up paying $63 for a basic trim and blow dry - I washed my hair beforehand). I have long layers and they felt a little bit choppy after the trim - they don't 'blend' into each other, but are noticeable on their own, which is a style change I didn't expect with just a trim. Overall, I probably wouldn't go again just because I like to spend less on trims, but would recommend to someone in the area willing to spend a little more than I am. read more

LOVE CREATIVE HAIR! I get the full treatment here, color, cut, highlights, etc from Bibe and I'm always thrilled with result. I used to spend a fortune at big Manhattan salons and was never as happy or felt like anyone actually cared this much about how my hair turned out. I have fairly fragile hair and they take fantastic care of me, bring me coffee and even go out and feed the parking meter for for me! In the Snow! I've been to Creative Hair twice -- the first experience is why I'm still giving them three stars rather than two, as the facial I had was generally good. I did, however, find it odd that the facialist left the room to leave a mask on for 25 minutes without saying a word or checking in on me (an "i'll be back in X minutes" would have been appreciated)... and 25 minutes is kind of on the lengthy side, especially with no choice but to listen to the italian opera BLASTING in the tiny room. Otherwise, though, the facialist was very gentle, had some good skincare tips for me, and really took her time. For my 2nd visit, I booked an appointment for myself and two of the girls in my bridal party to get mani-pedis the day before my wedding. Because I wanted a mid-day appointment on a weekday for 3 people at once I called two weeks in advance to book. The receptionist was very friendly and said it would be no problem to accommodate all of us. On the day of, I got a call about 20 mins. before our appointment confirming that we were coming in. Weird, especially because when we got there there were only two technicians available. Being that we were on a time crunch, we decided only to get manicures. But even then we waited almost 20 minutes to get started because one of the technicians was doing someone else's nails. When my friend went down to reception to ask what the deal was, she said they were running late because we decided to cancel our pedicures. HUH?!? If anything, that would put them ahead of schedule. The manicurist did a fine job on my nails but my friend's technician literally took 45 minutes to do hers, and she wasn't doing anything fancy, just plain polish. She said the woman was focusing so hard while putting the polish on it was if she was painting a portrait on each nail. All told, not one of us had ever wanted out of a salon quicker than at the end of that visit. And when we went to pay, the receptionist didn't even bother to apologize for the wait time, but instead decided to give me marital advice (lolz). Seems like most of the good reviews on here are for Creative's hair services, so maybe this just isn't the place to go for other types of treatments. Either way, I don't think I'll be back to find out. read more

He checked the condition of my hair, selected the right products (bleach free) and color combination to compliment my hairstyle and skin tone. Made an appointment at Creative because my usual salon had lost some of it's best stylists. It was easy to make an appointment for the following day. My stylist was nice enough but was wearing clothing that looked unclean and worn to a point of being not presentable for work in my opinion. He worked quickly and didn't much listen to my guidance. He almost started cutting away at my side swept bangs without asking me how I part them! I asked for a trim and update of my layers but he just hacked away and if it wasn't for the fact that the summer heat makes my hair wavy it'd look like I let a 5 year old cut them. They're poorly proportioned in length and uneven. Thank GOD for humidity. This salon is decent if you want a simple, straight trim I suppose but don't expect a quality style. Maybe hair is NOT something you should skimp on in NYC at least not with Creative. The place seems a bit hooch, it reminds me of something I'd find in a small, suburban, southern town turning out mom cuts and big hair. read more

I had a bad experience at Creative Hair Spa. Worse than last time, unfortunately (yes I gave them a second chance). The woman who washed my hair was overly aggressive, got soap in my ears, eyes and pulled my hair. The person who cut my hair was only supposed to cut NO MORE than four inches. He/She cut it 2-3 inches more than I said and my hair is also now uneven. I'm left with hair that is too short and doesn't look good. He/She also kept whipping my hair in my eyes and face while blow drying it. Waste of time and money. It will take at least a year to grow out this horrible haircut. read more

I've been loyal to creative for close to 3 years now and have yelped about Lena and her magical 5 star brazilian waxing. Figured it was due time i tried other services since they have always been so great and conveniently in my hood. I hesitantly booked highlights with Ariel back in June and was so thrilled with the results. She is professional and super super thorough. Ariel is a perfectionist, taking her time with every strand and almost 3 months later I am confidently booking a follow up for half head. Their prices are about 40% less than my manhattan hair salon and service/products are equally as impressive.From beginning to end, my experience at Creative are always a pleasure.
