For me, I value customer service and Ben provides this through the entire process. No frills quote, total price, everything broken down in written form. Details on California Rebates and Incentives were provided, and the contract and invoice were created in such a way to make any paperwork easy. There have been literally no surprises through the entire process. Even when I had to delay the installation for a few weeks, everything was re-scheduled perfectly. I received full details, product sheets, explanations of the solar panels, inverters, energy savings - even a spreadsheet showing savings over time. We had a new Main Service Panel installed and Ben took care of the quote, scheduling and install. The solar panels are from REC Group, with Enphase inverters. All products are highly reviewed and warrantied. The install team were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. I had a total of 21 panels installed in two arrays. This was completed in 1 full day. No external cables, piping etc - they took the time to run all cables through the attic space. They even touched up paint work. The end result is excellent, two solar arrays, clean lines, matched to the shape of the roof. The Enphase app is up and running on my android and iphones. The process with Homegrown was smooth from start to finish. When the city was taking their time issuing a permit, Ben went down to the permit office to get things expedited. The panels they use are excellent panels with one of the best temperature coefficients (how well the panels work on the hottest days) and one of the best production ratings after 25 years with an excellent warranty. Visually, the panels look amazing and the layout looks great. The install job is clean without any clutter. These guys are detail-oriented, from the alignment of the sticker in the breaker panel to the running of the cables through my attic. Ben came for a preinspection visit and asked me how I wanted things installed. He installed my Envoy box inside my garage, ran the wires where I wanted them, and even drew up different layouts for the panels to let me choose which layout looked best. I was very cautious of having solar panels installed at first because a friend had them installed…read moreand when it rained, the holes drilled into the roof got wet and leaked into his home, causing $10,000 worth of roof repairs. So the entire time I was reviewing the installation, this was in the back of my mind. I went forward with the install anyway because I was reassured about protecting the roof. I was probably one of the most difficult customers to convince! In the end, I am glad I did. The Bright Planet Solar company, who did the install, put in these braces that LOOKED like actual tiles, then just pulled out the one where the brace needed to go and installed one of these puppies. I was really impressed! This made me feel a lot more secure with the installation. Now get to the $$$ I have saved! I spent around $1,800 on energy costs in 2018 (fiscal year) and in 2019, this cost went down to $1,000. I also bought my panels, so I'm paying a fixed fee for energy every month. This is much better than when I got nailed with a $400 monthly bill for energy back in 2018... Finally - I got a fat tax rebate this year for the solar installation. When all is said and done, my energy costs are WAY lower (and in East County, I need to run out A/C a little), the roof is fine after two years, I have increased the value of my house and got a nice rebate. Paul (our sales rep) was very helpful through the entire process and I am very happy to have finally bit the bullet and installed solar panels. My only regret is not doing them sooner!

I hired Clayco Electric for a solar and Powerwall installation project, and it turned into one of…read morethe most frustrating contractor experiences I've ever had. Despite receiving 80% of the contract value ($38,744) that they had me pay on a credit card via their supplier --Clayco refused to activate the system until they were paid the final 20% ($9,686), even though the job was incomplete (Clayco's contract is written illegally, as contractors are not allowed to collect 100% until the job is 100% complete). They had passed city inspection but had not installed a required heat/smoke detector per the approved engineering plan and never commissioned the system. The required heat/smoke detector is still not installed, presenting a safety issue, and Clayton the owner is avoiding installing it because he sent a wireless (non compliant) heat sensor purchased from Amazon that he says is non-returnable. Worse, I had to commission the system myself--after rewiring the connection between the rapid shutdown switch and the correct Powerwall unit. They only came back weeks later to replace the faulty switch. They also: Tracked mud into my garage and onto my brand new roof, and never cleaned it. Installed the Tesla Powerwalls directly on the garage floor without my authorization, forcing me to repair drywall and reinstall baseboards at my own expense. Caused over a month of high electric bills (~$2,000) because they left the system offline for weeks demanding final payment when it could have been easily turned on. Tried to block my bank (Wheelhouse Credit Union) from reissuing the 80% payment to me--even though they already received the funds--unless the bank also sent them the final 20%. This kind of behavior is unethical and illegal. I'm filing a complaint with the California Contractor's State License Board (cslb.ca.gov) and exploring legal action. I would recommend others who have been harmed by Clayco Electric to do the same. If you want a contractor who finishes the job, honors the contract, and respects your SAFETY, time and money--look elsewhere.

Friendly workers, best price, quality products used. The absolute best part was they finished the job (22 panels) in one day. They left the worksite clean. I had a broken roof tile which honestly could have already been broken but they fixed it anyway. The instal is CLEAN. They painted conduit lines the match my house paint, even differing colors when it passed over trim. Highly recommend. I really wanted to like this company but here is my situation. My HOA requires the solar panels be…read moreraised 6" above the clay tiles. There is no negotiating with the HOA on this detail. They hold their rules as sacred as they do religion. I called around and most people prefer to do the picture frame with clay tiles-- I get it. I personally could care less either way. When we agreed to do business with SunVantage, Brandon, the owner, submitted paperwork to my HOA that stated he would do it to their specifications, which is not picture frame. He lied. No grey area there! He submitted paperwork just to get it through. It passed county standards so he didn't care. Unfortunately, now I am stuck (for the past several months now) dealing with our HOA. I went to the county to point out that he did not install per the contract-- they stated he operated within acceptable parameters. OK great. It's installed "correctly" ... that still doesn't get the HOA off me. Apparently, despite popular opinion, the HOA can legally require I meet this standard. So, guess what, Brandon has now put me in a situation where I have to sue the HOA or him and neither ends well for me-- so what's my options? Well, I could request Brandon redo the installation per the paperwork he submitted-- but Brandon has now ghosted me. He can't make money on me now so he could care less and he has been absent on this whole ordeal-- happily leaving me with the anxiety of dealing with our HOA. It looks as if now-- I am going to have to pay around 10k to fix this and that also would void my contract because I can only have Brandon do this fix or have the fix done by someone he approves since I technically don't own the panels that are on my roof. So, maybe we'll have to buy all the panels now-- I'm not sure but if we do that's more like 30k+. Brandon has royally screwed us and left this hanging over my head and does not lift a finger to help. Brandon pretends to be a nice guy but he is literally the least considerate, professional person I have ever come across. He actually lives in our neighborhood too and he does this to us. This is a shitty, slimy human being that I recommend staying far away from.
