    Alcantara Contractor - Bathroom remodel

About 4 yrs ago, I hired Alcantara contracting of Medford ma. I have to say that the issue with…read morethis company is definitely communication, not only between company and customer but more so between the company and its crews. There were many things on my project that went wrong so one day I went to see Carlos in his office and he would not talk to me, (his paying customer) because his project manager was not there. Now fast forward 2026, I noticed a water stain on my ceiling from the porch roof they did. At the time of job, (2022) Manager told me they would remove the shingles under the siding and put flashing against the sheathing and then reapply the shingles or wood before replacing the vinyl. I noticed the men were putting the sticky flashing (thick, looked like asphalt) over the shingles. Manager told them to remove shingles and do it the right way, this way I would get their warranty for my roof with them. They removed the sticky flashing and shingles and proceeded with this zip flash tape, rather than the thicker flashing. Never saw them use the metal flashing at the base against the house and at the shingles. ( not to mention, I brought the manager in that room to show him where my plugs were. He said that they will nail into the studs). I was concerned about the electrical. Later, It was found that they did infact hit my wires and I needed new plugs/wires because my wall was getting warm. I was lucky I caught this. Sent message to them and no response. With all the other issues that happened, not listed here, I never said a negative word publicly because He begged me not to leave a negative review and hurt his company. I expressed the only one hurting his business was Carlos, himself. The way he conducted business was his issue. He offered to reduce his new inflated bill because of the damages he caused. (this doesn't include the roof or electrical, again this happened later.) I would have preferred if he offered to correct those other damages but he only offered a band aid. Again, not acceptable. Earlier When I sat with the project manager marcelino on details of how things would be done and then saw the crews doing something different the next day, he would tell me this is a different crew. Its your job to inform your workers of the details!!! My project didnt change. No Communication with the workers. This company is not very organized. Now it has been 3 weeks since I called Carlos about the water stain and he is pretty much ignoring me. This is the reason I am writing this review now to warn potential customers of his way of doing business, and it appears he is still doing business in an unprofessional way. Any good contractor who does work and it fails in such a short period of time you would at least think that they would try to make things right if not only for namesake. Since he is not doing this, he is getting this review. Beware.

Finding someone that can give you a real budget, who communicates well, and is reliable; however, we consistently failed to find such a person until we met Stan. He was not only an absolute pro but a delight to work with, who listened to all of our needs and clearly explained all the processes and expenses, had a wonderful and amazing team who were professional, capable, kind and fun to be around. Not to mention how fast and effective he and his team were at finishing the renovations before our baby arrives. Stan also had wonderful suggestions for some of the renovation ideas that we had in mind. If we have any other construction work, we would call on Stan and his team in a heartbeat. Thank you for preparing our house for this new chapter of our family :)

Will do things the right way, and is very courteous to my requests. Always shows up on time and turnaround time is always reasonable. This time I had a kitchen fully gutted and redone, pricing was competitive, but between all the work to be done. Electrical, plumbing, framing, granite etc. Stan coordinated it perfectly and I wish I took a before picture, because this picture doesn't do it justice. I am beyond happy and better yet my wife is . Needless to say, Thank you again Stan and your crew, you did a great job

Only carpenters for interior work on Unit 2 showed up. The interior work on Unit 2 was a separate project. When talking with the owner of the company, all conversations involved shouting at me. The contractor did not use proper ladder safety. The feet of ladders where not down. Ladders were not tied off. Ladders were used on un-even surfaces. When instructed to fix these conditions they argued back and belittled me. Eventually the ladders were tied off in one location, but not two as required. When a ladder was placed on a lower roof level, protection for the roof was not provided. The house is older, and it is a requirement to assume all of the paint is lead based. When interviewing the contractor prior to hiring, they stated that all paint would be removed in a safe and legal manner. The paint was hand scraped and sanded, throwing dust everywhere. At the end of the day, the paint dust and chips were swept up, not following MA state law on lead safe work. When i requested that the contractors comply with safe scraping and sanding methods, they left the site. Plastic over windows was not fully taped and air tight. This does not prevent the lead dust from entering the interior. They only taped the windows immediately adjacent to the work, not the windows within 5 feet of the corner on the opposite side they were working.

He communicated with us throughout the project of installing a new Timberteck deck. His crew worked straight on through from start to finish without empty lapses of time. The men are so highly skilled. We continue to be happy with our beautiful deck. Therefore, we asked Ruy to install a Timberteck stair rail at our front doors, which also has withstood the test of time. We'd been concerned that installments like this would compromise the brick, whereby requiring a total rebuild, but a rebuild wasn't necessary. He also advise us on an easy and effective fix to divert water from flowing from the gutter and freezing to ice on those brick steps in winter. Based on the outcome of these projects, and our experience in their progression, we highly recommend this company.

They were supposed to build a new rubber roof. It started leaking on 3 separate occasions (which btw was never fully fixed -- we moved on to different contractors who did address the issues). And like I said, it would take months for them to actually come back and attempt to fix anything. Often they'd come by, look at the damage, then I wouldn't hear from them for multiple weeks. Meanwhile, more damage continues to accrue to the walls and ceilings. The internal fixes they applied for the water damage were just patch jobs. They just plastered and painted over. Meanwhile, the insulation behind the wall was soaked and accrued black mold that we had to address later. Also worth pointing out a major blunder at the beginning of the project (see attached videos and pics). They opened up the roof, and left it open for multiple days without doing any work. Well of course a major rainstorm came by (which was on the weather forecast well in advance). Alll that water poured into the house in the middle of the night setting off fire alarms. It was a nightmare to deal with on my end.
