" RDC team- i just wanted to drop a quick note to say that this years' recital was truly so so special. i volunteered backstage last year so this was my first experience in the audience. my own daughter danced only twice, near the end (i exploded inside), even still i was all but weeping the entire show. the energy that everyone brought was beyond beautiful. the joy was palpable, & it was very apparent that everybody on that stage was truly in their magic, from the teachers to students. which, as a patron, was to say the very least, is uplifting & impressive. as the mother of a dancer who is quite dedicated & passionate about the art, it was exciting & encouraging witnessing the progression through classes, & hear the graduates' testimonials. i was blown away at the level of dedicated production you brought to the entire event. She followed directions and those teachers making it fun. Classes aren't big in number of kids so it really feels like a private lesson. The teachers are…read morefantastic: warm, welcoming, fun, and knowledgeable; the space is beautiful; and for those that want it, there are workshops and community events too. I have been doing yoga for years at different studios- it's rare for me to find a studio where a lot of the teachers' styles work for me; usually I can only find a few. Here, for some reason, there are many teachers that I like, ones that are gentle, ones that are gentle and tough :) , and ones I learn a lot from. Heart Center trains yoga teachers too. That matters to me even though I am not a yoga teacher because they have a focus on the eight limbs of yoga, how yoga can apply to ones' whole of life, not just exercise. It's not intrusive or anything, but for me it feels good to be around people who are optimistic about life and helping others to heal and make their lives better. The owner, Faith, really has a sense of how to make that happen. The entrance to this studio is in a back alley- don't let that put you off. Inside is a world-class studio. Highly recommended.

The instructors are attentive and bring a level of heart and awareness for what is needed in the moment that I have struggled to find elsewhere. The exterior is deceiving in the heart of White City with an entrance from the alley, my first visit had me trepidatious upon arrival; however, from that first class to this day when I walk through the doors, I am instantly flooded by a sense of serenity that I struggled to find elsewhere. It is a 30 minute drive from my home, but every class is worth it. So many experiences I have at the Heart Center take me back to the beautiful yoga I experienced in India. I highly recommend this place. Everyone who has walked through the doors with me feels the same! Whether it is for yoga, reiki, hypnosis, or other alternative treatments or training, I have found joy and awakening in being a part of this community.

I attended a Tap recital at Paul Robeson Performing Arts Center for Northwest Tap Connection on…read moreSaturday. I was thinking, ok a tap recital...BORING. But I was SO WRONG! This was one of the best performance pieces I have seen by youth and young children (4-18 y/o) that are part of the South Seattle community. The recital was called "An African American Odyssey," and told the history of African Americans through tap and African Dance pieces. Northwest Tap Connection is under the direction of Melba Ayco, and "Is dedicated to building the whole dancer through a love of dance, personal discipline, respect for the community, respect for fellow dancers, and knowledge of the history of the art form." During the regular hours, NWTC operates a dance studio with classes that boasts 100 children from the South Seattle Community. This is a positive enriching community program that I was proud to witness! What a gem this program is...I will be donating $$ and sending my future children to NWTC.

It feels very covert, like you need to know a guy who knows a guy with a password to get in. You can also enter through the bar (I think). We initially went through the side door to get our tickets scanned in and then went in and out of the bar between acts to grab a drink. We weren't able to bring drinks into the actual theater, but not a huge deal. If anything, keeps the venue cleaner. There aren't any seats, just tiered standing platforms. Honestly, even with it being packed, I felt like we had a pretty good view of ~80% of the stage. The one thing I will say is that with everyone standing, you would think there'd be more movement/dancing. But alas, this is still Seattle and most people were bopping their heads to the music while I just wanted to swing around and feel it in my soul.

The theater shares an entrance with a jazz bar which provides a comfortable seating area to enjoy a drink while waiting for a show. We came to see the Rocky Horror Burlesque Pastie Show and was impressed at the capacity of this small theater. Beyond the hallway, patrons are immediately welcomed to second bar and a sea of padded chairs. The theater was packed with Rocky Horror Picture fans with some proudly wearing costumes of their favorite characters. The show started a little later than advertised however we were kept entertained during the slight delay. The seats were comfortable and we had an unobstructed view of the stage. This was our first time seeing a Rocky Horror Show in burlesque and we didn't know what to expect. Audience participation was encouraged and specific names (which I will not repeat) were yelled out when either Brad or Janet took the stage. Overall, a wonderful group adventure night full of sing-a-longs, heckling, and cocktails. Drink prices and show tickets were cheap compared to other venues.

I really liked the introduction but definitely need to build more core strength and do PT on my injured knee. Jelena was great, clear instruction and didn't make anyone feel uncomfortable or lacking in knowledge, as an instructor should, being knowledgeable and building connections thru teaching the terminology and basics which I really really loved. She would do minor or simple adjustments to form and was very encouraging especially when we'd correct ourselves. All in all I really enjoyed myself and hopefully will be back in the future. My knee locked up and my hip sciatica did get triggered twice and that's nothing to do with instructors or anything, so I want to slowly build up on my strength and endurance before committing to reformer Pilates. I was surprised to see there wasn't a yelp location for Technique, but couldn't help but add one since this Studio is my favorite on Mercer Island. They offer pilates (group classes and personal training) as well as barre classes. Personally I have tried both types of group classes and have enjoyed a challenging, but fun workout experience. If you are debating I would suggest going for it - they even offer the first class for FREE. All the instructors are great and will customize even the class workouts to what your body can do/needs and the upbeat music and energy really holds you accountable so you aren't slacking (like I do when I try to workout from home and end up taking breaks or sitting down). The studio itself is located in a cute shopping center area with parking spaces in front that are usually available. Parking is free and pretty easy as well. For classes I would recommend checking out their website and booking online to make sure you have a space. Definitely a great place to workout at any starting level of fitness, highly recommend!!!
