Hurt feelings doesn't allow a business to almost rob you of $752. Defamation and slander of an individual's name is illegal. In some states theft of $750 or more is considered a felony not just a misdemeanor. White collar crime, petty theft, embezzlement of consumer money, fraud and miss use/abuse of business customer's credit/debit card information. Around 16 months ago I walked into AM just before a Tuesday night dance party. Instantly they made me feel welcomed and kept me quite active even with steps I was totally unfamiliar with. My primary dance instructor Jacque was kind, patient, encouraging, and funny. All attributes that resonate with a new dance who may feel a bit insecure. Now today, I have danced with ALL the instructors and the staff is amazing. For me taking lessons is a bucket list item that has been on my list for way too long. They are WAY overly priced. We got the Group On which got us two private sessions and one Group. Which we did not go to after being pounced on by the front desk girl. She gave us this song and dance... REFUSING to give us prices until AFTER our 2 private sessions then she did they "name your price" for more sessions. She said she could work with every budget; well like a sleazy car dealership- she went 30% over what we could actually spend which is not "working WITHIN our budget" its over. $300.00 for 3 more "private" sessions... I can't possibly say enough about how incredible our experience was with Ashton. My husband and I took 5 lessons before our wedding to practice our first dance, and everything about the experience (and the final result) was beyond perfect. My (now) wife and I took a lesson here in preparation for our wedding and although the "introductory" lesson went ok, we were shocked at the pushy sales tactics, expensive prices, and "we don't really care" attitude. Planning a wedding can be a stressful process, but learning a first dance is even more stressful and sometimes even awkward at times. Riannan our dance instructor was fabulous. Just a delight to have as a teacher for both myself and my husband. The first day we were all over the place, but by our wedding we were totally prepared to impress. Strange place. They only have two rooms (and a hidden one upstairs), both of which are open and you can easily hear the music in the other room. So, if you are taking a private lesson, prepare to be distracted by other dancers, unless you are lucky, and the room upstairs is available. Needless to say, you'll end up having to dance to a different music. I also found their prices to be a bit steep. Our instructor, however, is great. I'd give her 5 stars. read more

Avoid the Arthur Murray Bellevue location! These guys are incredibly expensive: ~ $140 will only get you a forty-minute private lesson. This is by far the most expensive rate I have encountered in the Seattle area. There are plenty of other instructors (specifically in the Salsa or Tango areas) which give excellent instruction for less than half. And those rates are for an hour long lesson (i.e an additional 50%)! Also be sure to read and understand their contracts (which consequently most other places don't make you do). Before I signed I was verbal told that if/when I wanted stop that I could get a full refund. In my particular case that was true, but the fine print stipulated that was true for only one year after I signed the contract. Naturally, after about a year and a half I decided to change my mind. By this point I had paid in advance and had about 30 lessons left in my program. The studio refused to refund my money even though services were never rendered! Finally, the Arthur Murray Franchises are a very insular world. In general, they try to keep the dancing centered on their studio, activities organized by their studio, and their (expensive) competitions (which cost extra). Granted, it is probably a good thing because the ballroom style taught does not translate well to social dancing around town. When I started to dance elsewhere, I had to find other instructors to re-teach me Salsa and Tango so that I could go out and dance socially. read more

Having suffered a traumatic loss of my partner of 32 years, I went to the Bellevue studio last December hoping to get a refund for a voucher for dance lessons we'd planned to take together. Emily, the studio's gracious supervisor, listened to my story and how I loved to dance & suggested I try a 45-minute introductory private lesson with instructor Miko. That one class led to the 12-14 weekly classes I now take. I continue to be impressed by Miko's endless patience, eternal ebullience, good humor, & methodical teaching techniques. I've watched all the instructors with individuals, couples, & groups. They bring a high level of professionalism, dedication, content, and most of all, FUN to our lessons. Intense concentration on beginners' faces relax into broad grins as they master steps & choreography. The awesome music coming out of the studio's speakers is frequently accompanied by laughter & convivial conversation. Learning this brand new skill doesn't come easy or cheap. The value of these lessons can't be replicated via YouTube videos. For me, it's worth the cost of picking Miko's brain for all the experiential information he imparts with every lesson, encouraging my progress as he coaxes me into the confident and better dancer I've become. My new circle of friends at the studio spark joy & camaraderie. Ballroom dancing has become a passionate focus in my life and a vital part of my emotional, physical, and mental well-being. My fiance and I had a Groupon. We LOVED our instructor Rob. He's great. The studio, on the other hand, too pushy pushy over enthusiastic for us. We feel the prices are ridiculously expensive and we just don't have money to toss around like that. With our Groupon, they bunched up three private lessons, two group and a "party" in two days. We left without doing our last group session and we ditched the party. There seems to be a whole bunch of other dance studios to try out. We'll miss Rob but we won't miss Arthur Murray. read more

I've been dancing with Arthur Murray for almost 5 years now. If you want to learn how to ballroom dance- and there are probably at least 15 dances you can learn- this is the place to go. I will be moving away early next year and plan to join the Arthur Murray in my new town. I will have an instant connection. It's a great place for couples as well as singles. I'm an older single and I feel young there! People complain that it's expensive, but you only pay for your dance lesson and then you get 2 parties and 5 classes a week. I've made several close friends and now we go out dancing sometimes at other places and feel like we can do any dance! I have been dancing at Arthur Murray in Bellevue since Halloween (10/2011) when friends of mine invited me to a dance party at the studio. I so enjoyed dancing with the instructors that I signed up for an introductory offer which included private lessons, group classes and a dance party. I was REALLY uncomfortable with partner dancing because my lack of skill, and VERY nervous about learning to dance. (The reason I agreed to go with my friends in the first place is that I could be slightly undercover in costume.) I have had so much fun learning to dance here! The instructors are great and the other students are welcoming and understanding of a beginner. I really value having access to multiple instructors and have found the instructors at this studio to have good teaching techniques and friendly personalities. I think they also do a great job of giving time and attention to new students to help them feel comfortable. The private lessons give one on one attention, the group classes help you learn dance steps and meet other dancers, and the dance party provides a comfortable environment to practice dancing! I'm a single woman and have found the environment very safe and comfortable. There is a wide variety of people who dance at this studio - singles, couples, varying ages and all skill levels. It is a wonderful collection of people gathering to enjoy dance. The location is very convenient to where I live and work. With daily/nightly group classes available, it is easy to work it into my schedule. I can't say I'm a great dancer yet, but it is bringing me great joy! I find dance a great remedy for winter blues! My husband and I bought a Groupon. We went to the Bellevue location to take the classes. We found the staff to be very welcoming and eager to work with us on anything we mentioned we'd like to learn. We did sign up for continuing classes and there was NO hard sell. They repeatedly said if your having fun and want to continue we would love to have you back! One of the things I really liked was the flexibility of going to any location to take group classes as often as we wanted.If you take advantage of the unlimited free group classes the price is not unreasonable. My husband and two daughters tried out Arthur Murray for the first time tonight. The energy in this place was fantastic and we had a blast! We were treated so well by the receptionist, manager (who greeted us all by name), and finally by two of the instructors, Jay and Scotty. As a family, it was some of the best fun we have had in a while. Jay taught my husband and I while Scotty took the girls through several different styles of dance to see what they were interested in. The music was fabulous and we were swinging and hustling within 15 minutes with ease. We enjoyed it so much that we all joined their lesson program and will return once per week for lessons and perhaps an additional time each week once we are better dancers because they offer a wonderful array of dance parties to attend. I have been a student of the Bellevue Arthur Murray Studio for over 10 years now. Back in 2004 my husband surprised me with 5 lessons as a birthday gift. I had mentioned that I wanted to learn to dance so that we would look like we knew what we were doing on the dance floor at our daughter's wedding. After the 5 lessons we were hooked and continued dancing. Not only did we look like we knew what we were doing, we were clearly the best dancers on the dance floor. Last year our second daughter got married. We had Kelly, one of their fabulous teachers, choreograph a Tango for our daughter and her new husband's first dance. The dance was amazing and dynamic! Her new husband was the one who chose the music and the dance. Over the years dance has changed our lives. We have had so many wonderful times, met so many friendly people, made so many new and good friends, and have had the honor of learning from and dancing with some of the finest dance teachers.
