We were able to use their space to have wine, snacks and chat before settling down to paint. The Daughter draws a lot and likes to paint, and research led The Wife to find Create Mix and Mingle for a birthday party. Located right off the 101/92 junction across the street from the Fish Market, it's easy to find in the recessed strip mall. Ample parking is available. We were greeted warmly, and I was surprised to see a wine bar. The rooms are quite large, there are two rooms available for the sessions. Four rows of paper-lined picnic tables had table top easels with canvases already mounted. Paint supplies were also set up and the model painting is on a stage. Everyone takes a seat in front of a canvas, and a skilled teacher is on stage with a wireless hands free microphone showing which brush he selects, what paint he dips it in, and how he applies it. Like Bob Ross, but not quite as happy. Our party of tweenage girls follow along while the moms drink wine and chat and Daddy goes to the Office Depot. The girls painted pretty good copies of the model (there were a few that were abstract), and they had a blast. I was kind of jealous that I didn't get to do it. They were done in about 80 minutes. Then we had pizza and cupcakes and finished the party as normal. We chatted with who I think is the owner, and she explained the variety of packages they have including summer camps; she's really enthusiastic about making the customer happy. This place is the perfect date night! I've never been to any Paint Nights or anything similar of that nature, and haven't done any painting since grade school, so I was very apprehensive about my ability to make anything remotely close to the design of the night. However, they walk you through every step and make the whole process pretty idiot proof, so you are almost guaranteed to end up with a decent painting that you can proudly say that you painted yourself and display in your home. My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day. The painting changes every time, so be sure to look on their website and pick a painting that you like. I also like how the location is in a studio-like space, surrounded by paintings from previous nights. The cost per person is $55, which gets you the lesson, the painting to take home, a free glass of wine or champagne, and some snacks (a pretty decent spread of cheese, salami, fruit, chocolates, and candied pecans). Just signed our daughter up for a week of art camp in mid-July. This is our first time at Create Mix and Mingle and I had lots of questions so I thought I would share the information I got. - They have a new location at 25 N. Kingston San Mateo - 9:00 am - 2:45/3:00 pm m-f - There is a parking lot next to the building - Kids remain in the studio the entire day and we were encouraged to send a book with her to read during downtime. - wear old clothes that can get paint on them - bring a snack and nut-free lunch and a water bottle - small class size (under 15/20) - Min two adults at all times - Camp "councilors" are adult working artists, (not high school students) - Because it's such a long day focused on art a certain level of maturity is expected and bullying is strictly prohibited. - Art theory and art history will be taught along with the actual art projects giving students more than just arts and crafts projects - Kids are never forced to participate, there are several independent activities they can work on instead or they can read quietly as long as they don't disrupt the rest of the class. Fun way to spend a weekday with your girlfriends or with your significant other for a date night. My gripe about this place was that it did not start on time. On the reservation it said we needed to be there early to check in and get settled so I got there over 20 mins ahead of schedule and there was still a "Closed" sign on the door. I called the business and no answer. Finally with about 5 minutes until the stated class time did the doors open. The class did not start until about 30 mins after as people were getting settled, buying snacks/drinks, etc... We didn't end the class until well over 9:30 and still hadn't eaten dinner so keep that in mind if heading to a class straight after work. 3.5 stars read more

We had the catered Rise Woodfire pizza and other menu items, which were delicious. The only problem with the catered menu is that there are no "gluten-free" items ("gluten-friendly"? That won't work) so I had to bring in a couple of gluten-free bowls so our gluten-free colleagues could eat. But other than that, it was a great night. Came here for a company event and the entire staff were all very helpful and nice! When we were booking the event, they were very flexible in terms of payment and we were able to pay a deposit and then pay the rest based on our confirmed number of attendees. This is a huge plus since many venues require payment early on, or require payment for a certain number of attendees quoted even though that number could change in the future. We booked the entire main class area for the event, so it was a nice private setting. Onto the actual event - the staff was very accommodating to the group and the instructor was very kind and thoughtful, walking around asking people if they needed more paint, giving his opinion on people's paintings and answering questions. Since a lot of the people had no experience at all painting, the instructor did a great job helping everyone out and constantly reinforcing that 'there is no right way to do this!' Additionally, they served drinks - wine, beers, and soda. I've been meaning to try this place out, and finally went for date night tonight with my husband. My main complaints: The event I booked was listed as 7pm-9pm. Instruction didn't finish until 10pm. Not even close!! This was a huge problem for us because our young children were at home with the sitter. We'd only booked the sitter until 915pm, and our little ones couldn't go to bed until we got home. I considered just leaving at 9pm anyway, but the painting was nowhere close to finished and that would have meant walking out empty handed after paying $90. If I'd known this ahead of time, we would not have come here. The example painting CLEARLY had additional colors and details that weren't included in our step-by-step class. I don't expect my painting to look as good as a skilled painters', but I feel like it is dishonest to use an example painting on the website that you know is different from what you'll do in the class. My final complaint is more trivial, but the complimentary glass of wine was definitely a stingy pour. read more

I have been to several Create, Mix, and Mingle events. In fact, my house has several of their paintings now. It is a great place for large party gatherings (adult holiday parties, kids' birthday parties, etc.). They have many different types of paintings in their studio...from traditional to modern, from clean lines to abstract. The instructors give easy-to-understand directions and people who are not artists at all can end up with decent-looking paintings. The best part is one does not have to do any of the clean-up! 1 star off: The one thing that turned me off was how one of the instructors asked the guests to put our paintings on social media...so it is free advertising for the business. She went as far as purposely capturing their business logo in our photo by asking one of the guests to not cover their sign. Furthermore, she told us to write only positive reviews for Create, Mix, and Mingle. She said, "If you don't have anything good to say, then don't say anything at all." I did have a positive experience here and was happy to leave a positive review, but did not think it was fair to ask guests to not leave any negative reviews if that was the case. read more

Our teacher's union hosted a private event here. It was so easy to organize and communicate with everyone. We were able to choose our date, time, and painting. We were able to bring in our own food, and they had a nice selection of beverages available for purchase. Both the artist/teacher and hostess were so friendly and welcoming. I've been here twice and the staff is very friendly. The first time I attended a kid's birthday party. The instructor did a great job of teaching the kids. I had doubts that the kids would be able to follow the strokes, but each movement was simply described for them. The kids really enjoyed creating something of their own too. The second time I attended was for a random paint night. We had another great instructor. He kept us engaged and walked around to offer help if we needed it. The owner is very friendly too. This place is fantastic. We came here for a team offsite on short notice, after our original plans fell through. They were very accommodating and easy to work with despite our last-minute booking, and the staff is just awesome (it took about five minutes to feel like hanging out with old friends -- I'm sure the wine had nothing to do with that). Our instructor, Chan, was perfect. Some of our group had previous painting experience, but this was the first time for many of us. He gave just the right amount of instruction that everyone (both 'I need every step in detail' and 'give me a brush and get out of the way') went home with a piece of art better than we expected going in. I love Groupon because sometimes, they really take me to an awesome, new place. I bought a deal for one to get a little creative, relaxing "me" time away from my husband and baby girl. I'm so glad that I did. Create, Mix and Mingle is in a simple, clean open space with lots of natural light coming in through tall windows...which is a good thing because while I was there, PG&E had a power outage and we were without electricity for a good hour. As if painting isn't relaxing enough, they do have a bar to purchase alcohol to lower your inhibitions just a bit. The instructor is great. Explains things really well, with a sense of humor. Very patient and walks around the room to make sure you understand or to lend a helping hand. Check out my masterpiece and just call me Van Gogh! This place is excellent! I've never been too much of an artist, but the ladies at Create Mix and Mingle made painting easy and fun! My friends and I had bought a deal off of LivingSocial, so it ended up being around $25/person (Orig. $45). The check-in process is smooth. You tell them your name; they check it off, answer any questions you may have and send you on your way. Everything you need is provided: brushes, a canvas, napkins, an apron, water and paints. The bar had a pretty wide selection of wines and beers. My friend and I opted to get a half bottle of white wine, and that ended up only costing $20! The class itself was relaxing and fun. (Our class painted the Eiffel Tower.) Robin, our instructor, encouraged us to exercise our creativity, and she didn't rush us at all. There were people of all skill levels in this class, and no judgments were made. She also played some feel-good music while we painted, including some top 40 mixes and oldies. There were even moments when everyone sang along! My favorite part of the whole night was when Robin busted out the glitter glue!!! I guess glitter isn't very sophisticated, but it undeniably is a lot of fun. I.LOVE.GLITTER! The venue itself is cutely decorated, clean and spacious. Parking is not a problem, as it's located in a corner of a shopping plaza. Everyone there is super nice and helpful. Create Mix and Mingle was the perfect way to spend a chill Friday night. Tips: Try not to wear any of your best clothes to the class in case things get wild! Only half kidding, but dry paint does stay on your clothes forever. Oh, and Create Mix and Mingle also does fundraisers! Side note: My friends and I had done an ArtSocial class at the Burlingame El Torito before, and that class was so stressful we nearly swore off painting forever! The instructor was so critical of everyone else's work and could not stop #humblebragging about what a great artist he was. I love this place! It's super spacious. The staff is friendly and very informative. Painting is such a great way to allow your mind to wander and relax. My friend and I came here on a wednesday night, using the groupon that we bought online. They're fairly new so the place wasn't crowded or pack. There was another couple that joined us that night. We painted the Eiffel tower. The instructor for the night was a young male artist. Personally, he's a great person and very cool to talk to but in terms of giving instructions and showing us techniques on how to paint, wasn't very good. It could probably be due to low budget since they're new and have not generated revenue. They also had a mini bar and a variety of snacks to choose from. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and I love my painting! I would definitely come back and would recommend this place for children and birthday/special events. read more

We came here for a work team building event yesterday, and it was so much fun! They served us something to drink first: champagne, Italian sodas and water, which was a nice welcome. We brought our own catered lunch and settled in to begin painting together. They had the easles and paints all set up with an example painting up on the stage as a model. Chan guided us through the design of the painting but let you express yourself freely by styling and choosing tints of colors that he recommended. He patiently explains which paint brushes to use for each type of paint stroke and they have plenty of paint in push top bottles for you to help yourself. They have water to drink and they come by with more champagne and Italian soda if you like while you paint. We got into it! And we had fun bonding and expressing ourselves artistically. They play cool 80s/90s music that bring back memories and get you singing while you paint. They provide clean restrooms too, and there is plenty of parking in the shopping center parking lot. What an enjoyable day spent with my team! I would highly recommend this for work team building events or getting together with your friends to make something beautiful! When I rode the BART home, I got compliments on my painting by fellow riders, and my friend's sister actually wants to buy or have a copy of my painting! I've done a lot of these painting and wine things, and this is one of my favorites. I love that they have their own space so we're not crammed in to a restaurant table. They sold wine by the glass and offered a cheese & cracker type of assortment which was lovely. There's plenty of room to get up and walk around, stretch your legs, look at other people's work and chat, get some more paint, etc. My daughter went to art camp there and loved it. She is so proud of her finished paintings! We even attended a fundraising party that they held a while back to benefit the San Mateo County K-9s. I love local businesses that give back to the community! In fact, now that I'm thinking about all this, I'm going to plan a Girls Night Out right now!
