Start with a blank canvas and primary colors!

I love Paint Nite!! I had previously done it before down in socal but wanted to do it with my friends up here because I had such a great time. For San Francisco locations, you definitely have to reserve your night around a month in advance... The paint nite reservations go fast!! So hurry up and buy your $25 groupon (compared to $45 regularly), clear your schedule for that night, and reserve a night for painting with your friends! I attended Paint Nite at The Empire Room on Golden Gate Ave yesterday night with 2 of my friends. We had Ashley as our artist and she was friendly and funny! She also really took her time and had some good tips along the way. She was really nice about helping people out, for example my friend accidentally got black on her light blue background (LOL), and Ashley helped her fix it! I also saw a girl come in late and Ashley helped her catch up. The two hours goes by relatively fast and by 9pm, you're asking yourself where the time went. Nonetheless definitely a fun girls night, or even a date night! We got to The Empire Room a little early so we decided to take advantage of their happy hour drink specials. Drinking while painting is fun, but don't let it hinder your painting skills.... hahaha! They also have small bites and entrees that you could order since it was around dinner time. Also, don't even worry if you don't have any artistic ability or haven't painted since kindergarten.. The artists really go step by step and make it so much easier than it looks!

    So much fun!!!

My homegirl of FOURTEEN YEARS was coming to SF for her birthday (as well as to handle a little biz) so we said LET'S DO THIS. Let's paint the city! But of course I took that shit literally and started looking for painting classes, especially the ones that I heard included wine, and Voilà! Paint Nite San Francisco. I. Absolutely. LOVED IT. I went in drawing like a third grader and came out on some Van Gogh shit... and I don't even know HOW to explain to you just HOW I did it. She told us to make a white circle here. Scribble some color around there. Draw some criss cross green lines here. Put a black dot there. And before your girl knew it, she had flowers blowing in the wind, in a field, on a sunny day! I thought the wine came with the class, but no. BYOB (meaning bring or buy your own) S'alright. I still loved it and I'm doing it next in HOUSTON! Weoutchea!

I booked a private event with Paint Nite and it didn't disappoint. Not only do they bring all the supplies you need to paint and do the set up, they make the whole process of booking them and figuring everything out super easy. Our artist was very friendly and patient with my group. Especially as the night progressed and the wine was catching up with everyone. Her instructions were easy to follow and she balanced her time well with teaching the whole group and helping individuals. I would definitely book them again or attend one of the public events.

I absolutely LOVED this event and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a few hours of fun! The experience lasted roughly 2 hours and took place at a winery in downtown SF. Painting while buzzed? What more could I ask for. Tip: show up early to grab food or drinks at the venue if so desired. And to ensure that you get a good selection of seats. My event was sold out, so I was glad I came earlier and got center seats. Started off by grabbing a rosé from the counter (just note that the price of drinks is not included in the ticket price). My instructor cracked endlessly funny life jokes as she taught us the steps to reconstructing (while still adding our own touches) to the advertised painting. My only complaint is that she went really fast, and I felt like I did not have enough time to keep up. The pace slowed down towards the end, so I had could at least add finishing touches. Another point to note (and this is specific to my event), was that the instructor didn't go into as much detail doing her painting on the spot than the advertised painting. The end product did not look as good as advertised. Still a fun and novel experience for me!

Who knew I was a master artist? I always thought I was the one person in my family who was not artistic. I took ceramics in high school, photography in college, and ikebana as an adult but painting and drawing were never my thing. Apparently, we are all better artists when we are a little tipsy. I thought my starry Golden Gate turned out fantastic. The instructor made it very easy to follow the steps and also explained that there's room for creativity and self-expression. The bridge did not have to be so precise and we had an amazing time. I'd recommend Paint Nite for a fun date or girls' night out. It's affordable with a Groupon or LivingSocial deal. Drinks do cost extra.

Used a Groupon deal for this ($25/person for 2hrs--otherwise it's $45) and it was so much fun! You have to register online in advance and choose the painting you want to do, the venue, and the time. Some of the more popular paintings (ie. cherry blossoms, Van Gogh inspired starry night) quickly sell out so you might have to plan a month in advance. I went to the Cigar Bar & Grill for this. The only downside is that the painting instructor went through it pretty fast (or maybe we're just slow) and they ran out of aprons!! So some of us had to use either table cloths or napkins. What. How is that possible when there is a set amount of people that can register and attend the event?! Still fun nonetheless. Painting, snacking, and sipping on drinks, what could be more fun?

Valisha Rogers is one of the best instructors for Paint Nite. She is extremely energetic & keeps things exciting the whole time. No one does her job better or works harder then this beautiful woman.

The class itself was fun! We basically just messed around with clay for the 1.5 hours, layering cut outs and playing with texture. Baking took 30 minutes, and then assembly another 30. There were tons of colors, shapes, and tools to try out. There was also a birthday party there, so if you're interested in an event, this seems like a good place. Sophie let us know that we're allowed to get drinks / snacks from next door, then bring it back to eat in the lobby area by the window. The workshop seems like a lovely community space. Seems like they have events every month - Nov they'll have a free zine workshop and in December they'll sell mini wreaths. There's tons of other artsy things in there. My one suggestion for the class - it would have been lovely if there had been more pliers for assembly. I think that the shortage was the main bottleneck. The earrings look simple to put together, but because we were new and the pieces seem so fragile, it took us quite a bit of time.

I struggled for three hours and accidentally created a big hole on the first try, and had to replace a handgun because it was weak. David, another instructor, happily replaced the whole canvas, so I had to start over by drawing the design through their portable Bluetooth projector. He warned me that if I ripped another canvas, there would be an extra cost. For the next two hours, I got a handle on the handgun, but still needed assistance from my friend since she had experience in punch needle, which is a manual, mini version of tufting without a handgun. I accidentally made a small hole by puncturing the same spot twice to fix the gap, so I asked Monica for advice. She suggested that I should make a small patch on the bottom side of the design so she can glue it later. However, David came to analyze the hole and happily fixed it for me by filling in the rest of the gaps. I didn't have to do extra work. Five hours later, all the crew members were helping us put each design together by patching it up and shaving. Since they were busy, I had to wait for my turn to use the vacuum and trimmer to shave off excess yarn on top of the design to give it a polished 3D look. I felt bad for that one girl who couldn't finish tufting her Hello Kitty since she arrived here 30 minutes before our appointment. Overall, it was a fun and humbling experience for under $200, based on canvas size. Very time-consuming, yet there's a promo for on a weekday suitable for couples: $168 for two small ones and $206 for two mediums. They even offer a group package suitable for parties of five. Great for any special occasions and corporate socials. Also kids over 12 years old can do it. Complimentary snacks are available for customers, but the Pop Mart figurines are available for purchase. Must reserve a spot on their website or IG page before they open on weekends.
