The Story of Ramen is located in the Mission so parking was a little tricky. We got to the general area 20 minutes before so that we could get a decent parking spot. We did the 4 hour advanced workshop where we learned about how to prepare the broth, marinated eggs, chasiu pork, tare seasoning and how to make the ramen. For that day, there were 5 other pairs. Our teachers Manville and Jeff, guided us through every step of the arduous process of making the perfect bowl of ramen. The workshop started off with a lecture about the history of ramen and the creation of The Story of Ramen. Of all the tasks we did, my favorite was making the ramen itself. After learning in detail how much work goes into making ramen, I appreciate ramen more than I ever did before. This was a great team building activity and something new for us. I highly recommend this and of course you get to eat the bowl of ramen you make at the end of the workshop!

The food was very homey, and I mean it in a good way. Prepping/cooking runs for ~2 hours and we ate for the 3rd hour. Food was delicious and healthy. When it comes to food, I've been told that I have high standards and I say it's good. I'm going to see if I can attend her Brazilian and French classes. Highly recommend!

I wanted to fill my days with some fun activities during the days my husband was away at the conference. I found Ayako's cooking class and knew it would be something fun and different from anything I have back home. Ayako was incredibly nice and inviting! She offered me slippers, an apron, and printed copies of the recipes we prepared. We cooked together and chatted along the way about different things to do in the city and food, of course. I learned some simple techniques for cutting vegetables I hadn't known before and I cook quite frequently at home. The food, conversation, and atmosphere could be beat! I would love to attend another one of Ayako's classes when I return to the city.

It all began when two days prior to the class, a package containing the ingredients and recipe card arrived at my apartment. All the items were thoughtfully packed and labeled. Chef Eliza and the Culinary Artistas team created a wonderful experience on the day of the class. Their energy was warm and welcoming. The class began on-time. And the instruction was clear and judgment-free. They took care to make sure everyone felt comfortable with the steps and never hesitated to answer questions/repeat instructions. They threw in some unexpected steps too - such as kneading the udon dough through dancing to disco music! Overall, a pleasant and memorable experience.

I booked this activity for my bestfriend's 30th birthday as a surprise, but instead we were greeted with a closed door and no explanation. When calling the number provided I was told, "Sorry, I guess we should've called you. The instructor couldn't make it to the class. We sent you an email." The email was sent at 12:09PM while the class was scheduled for 2:00PM. We were already done with brunch and en route driving into the city by that time. I understand that unexpected situations happen, but giving customers only two hours' notice-especially when they are traveling to the location --is not reasonable. The communication was extremely unprofessional. I also checked the cancellation email afterward, and there was no explanation for why the class was canceled and no information about a refund. I'm now having to keep an eye on my credit card statement to make sure the charge is actually refunded. We made the drive for nothing and were left with nothing more than an apology. Overall, it was a very frustrating and disappointing experience, I would not recommend it.
