Stopped in here for lunch on our way to Lake Tahoe. Bought some of their pork with red chili and jalapeno and cheese tamales to take with us. The pork tamales were tasty but could have had a bit more meat. The jalapeno and cheese were some of the best I've ever tasted. The masa they use is delicious, very soft and fluffy. In the future, I will buy tamales here every time we come through town. Not to be missed. read more

Such a cute hidden GEM in Bishop. My family & I came to charge our Tesla across the street ,when we noticed people eating outside. The whole time I thought it was just a Mexican market but nope they had a mini bar & you were able to order Mexican food. Great staff & the food was so DELICIOUS. This place was so cute and unexpected! The menu is simple the food is great quality! We had the asada burrito and the pork adobada burrito both were great! The salsas are fresh and homemade! Red is spicy in a good way! My kids had the regular elote and mangonada and watermelon drinks both loved them! They have asked to go back on our way back from mammoth. Small place off the main drag, but definitely worth it. We ordered a couple of burritos and one of each of their non-vegan tacos. Our favorites were the asada and chorizo for sure! Word of caution, when they say hot salsa, they mean it. The red was tasty, but sure had a kick. read more

Stopped here while passing through Bishop 2days ago. What a find. A simple menu but everything was great. I had an asada burrito, large, great taste and the hot hot sauce was fantastic. My wife's chicken taco combo was also very tasty. The food was served with a smile in a very pleasant outdoor eating area. Very reasonable prices. I had the chicken bowl and hubs had the chicken burrito. We ordered with the hot sauce and it's def on the hotter side. If you like spice, order the hot. If you're a spice-wimp, go mild. They also have fresh foods in their refrigerators including ceviche, beans, and other side dishes. They make fresh juices and have real coke (glass bottle) too. I definitely made a great decision when ordering food for a party of 30 people. Food was prepared on time, the corn with cream and cheese was so delicious that everyone was having 2nds and 3rds. Found Mercado on yelp. And have to say it did not disappoint. Food was just as good as everyone said. My husband got tamales, i had the chorizo and an chile relleno. Also order the mango slush! My only itty bitty complaint is that there is nowhere inside to sit. And it was a hot day. But I'm confident with it being a new joint they will eventually add some indoor seating. Very cute and ambient space. The inside is a small mercardo with food options to order as well at the register. The 2 girls working were very kind and helpful with any questions we had regarding the food. The food itself was also good and if I had to guess one of the best mexican options around. Overall my experience here was much better than expected and that's even taking into account we read other reviews beforehand. If I were to pass through the area on another trip I would definitely stop here again. I recommend this spot to anyone looking for a solid mexican bite to eat. read more

This is some of the best Mexican food I've ever had in my life. I got a hot Cheeto elote and tacos and my husband got a burrito. Portions were huge, meat was tender and well seasoned, tortillas were wonderful , I can't say enough good things! There wasn't anything I didn't find amazing! This place is hands down good!! Coming from Los Angeles we noticed this spot by its eye peeling building . I got the tacos with their signature soda refresher and my wife loved their concha bread with ice cream in the middle! Aside from their delicious food they have great snacks that we were able to take on our trip back home. The environment is great and the people that work there are super nice and humble . This was a fun discovery on our way through Bishop! I had the Plant Based tacos, the verde and the "carnitas" made from jackfruit. They were so good!! The flavors are amazing! I ate twice at Mercado Mexico and enjoyed my mix of the several vegan options each time. Each taco easily fits into one hand, so consider ordering several if you want a full meal. Both salsas are delicious--just recognize that the hot salsa will live up to that name. I'd love to see more apparent options on future menus for ways to get the veggie protein choices into other meal options. That said, this restaurant is one of the most fluent in Bishop when it comes to catering to vegetarian and vegan diets. read more
