Gyro with Greek Fries
John S.

Really good Gyro with fries. Pricy but good. Even gave a small free sample of soup. The soup was really tasty. Food came out quick.

#4 chicken breast gyro

Great service and food! My husband thought the chicken kabob meat gave Persian Room a run for their money. Also loved the strong flavor of the salad dressing. Will definitely go again!

Had a very nice meal at Beginners Luck in Old Town Scottsdale. I have been looking for a solid go…read moreto place in Old Town for a while. Still mourning the loss of Bandera. Beginners Luck is just that kind of place. Food 4.5/5 - I ordered the Crab and Shrimp Roll with fries. It was excellent and quite a portion. More than enough for a second meal. Loaded with shrimp and crab. I wasn't expecting a crab and shrimp salad but rather a mix of the two warm and buttered in the roll but it was very tasty as served. The only part that was a little off was the burned in brand on the roll the cold salad was served in. The charred flavor with the salad was a little off putting. I just pinched off the burnt bits from the bread. Excellent fries! Service 4/5 - I sat at the bar. Bartender was nice, offered regular menu and restaurant week menu as well. Meal was brought by manager, fries were still piping hot. Bartender and manager checked back to make sure meal was to my liking. Ambiance 5/5 - Cute place. A lot of nice outdoor seating and seating inside but a bit less. All in all a great place with a nice complement of offerings! I will return. If only they had a fly through with rotisserie chicken to go, I would never think of Bandera again.

We were seated inside quickly - it was a slow afternoon. Signs on the door let you know they have A/C however they left the front door propped open so it wasn't that cool inside. We each had a cocktail and they were pretty good - him a Painkiller on Main (he said it was good) and I had Ranch Water Paloma but asked them to mix tequila and mezcal rather than have me choose one over the other. Quite tasty! We just did apps: Fondue Blanc served with linguisa, pretzel bread and roasted cauliflower. The fondue was especially delicious with the cauliflower. We also had pimento cheese served with potato chips and chicharrones. I've only ever tasted grocery store made pimento cheese and was not a fan but when I tasted the pimento cheese at Beginner's Luck, I instantly became enamored. Totally enjoyed it with the chips. I recommend stopping in for a bite when wandering Old Town.

First off, the outside of this building looks so welcoming, and you walk in and it practically…read morescreams, "Hey you, come eat a plant and feel better about your life choices." Inside, the vibe is excellent and cleaner than my search history. Contrary to some of the other reviews I've read, my service was incredibly fast and efficient. To be fair, we walked in well after the lunch rush, but the staff was still totally on top of it. As for the food, my friends ordered The Club and The Grinder, and both absolutely loved them. I went with the Moroccan Turkey, and oh my god, I loved everything about it. The standout players were definitely the Greek yogurt sauce and that red wine vinaigrette. Absolutely incredible flavor combo. That said... unless my friends and I have suddenly hit a massive growth spurt, the portions could definitely be a bit larger for what you're paying. We're in Scottsdale, not a micro-portion tasting menu in Paris. Feed us, ChopShop! The real plot twist of the meal was the BBQ potato chips. I thought they were absolute perfection. However, they caused a full-on culinary debate in our group. They lean pretty sweet and have this distinct Indian-spice vibe going on. If you're expecting standard backyard-barbecue Lays, you're going to be confused. Half the table was questioning their entire existence, while I was busy hoarding the bag. Come for the great food and healthy atmosphere, just maybe grab a snack beforehand if you're starving--and prepare your palate for the chip controversy.
