The only reason I am giving them one star is because their sushi was very good. The service was awful. Both of my times there I waited for over an hour and a half for my food. I found a ball of plastic wrap in the bottom of my salad and a hair in a bowl of rice. The waitress argued with me on something I didn't order. She said I ordered a crunch roll and I am a vegetarian so I definitely didn't. They made me pay for the salad and never brought me a new one. I admit I was disappointed to not see my familiar servers or sushi chef when Crazy Fish reopened, but a dinner at Crazy Fish is still a treat. Some things have changed. A tart salad vinaigrette is sweeter and improved. I'm on an athlete's diet and prefer nigiri sushi to the more complex rolls, so I can't speak to those. I can say I've enjoyed the maguro (tuna), sake (salmon), hamachi (yellowtail) and saba (mackerel). I have friends who swear by the 'Monkey Balls' and 'Heart Attack' appetizers but they are not on my program. Crazy Fish's chicken noodle soup happily remains unchanged. I find it is the best prophylaxis against a cold. The new staff is welcoming and attentive. Service was quick on my last visit on a Saturday evening. read more

Seriously confused by Crazy Fish's low Yelp stars! In my opinion, it's the best sushi in town. The green dragon roll is amazing, definitely a must. I have yet to run into a roll I didn't like, just some are better than others. The salads are good, miso is good, and service is fair (used to be amazing, but has gone down hill a bit). The only thing I'd ask for is more rolls that include just regular tuna, and not spicy ( spicy is good, but there are almost no rolls with tuna). read more

First off - really great food. Best sushi I've eaten in a long time. Reason for 3 star rating is service. All staff was really friendly but took 20 minutes to order food and another 25 to get a check and a to go box. My entire family had left the restaurant for more than 10 minutes before anyone noticed! So gross. What happened?! This used to be one of my favorite sushi places and tonight was just horrible. The service was bad, my sashimi tasted so old and smelled gross, and there was one waitress to like 30 people. My partner and I both feel sick after eating there. I'm so disappointed. I feel like the food and service quality has gone up a lot since they changed ownership. The Crazy Fish Salad is my favorite thing on earth: fresh mixed sashimi, salad greens, jalapeno, and seaweed in a super delicious ginger dressing. I always get that and a roll or some nigiri and leave super satisfied. The service is pleasant and usually efficient. The only criticism is, as others have pointed out, they are often understaffed. Crazy Fish is one of the better sushi restaurants in ABQ. I've been here a handful of times and the sushi is pretty consistent. The restaurant is well kept and clean. I have seen this place packed and I have seen it with only a few people, but the service is always on top of things and the staff is very friendly. As for the sushi... If you're a fan of green chile you have to get a New Mexico roll. I also recommend any of their spicy baked rolls. read more

Is it strange that I've had some of the best sushi I've ever eaten... in the desert? It shouldn't be that way, but somehow Albuquerque has one of the tastiest sushi restaurants I've been to in a long time. I came to this place with my boss on New Year's Eve, I thought the food was great! I had children with me and the owner made a special off the menu meal for them ( since most children don't like sushi.) Another plus is the bathrooms were clean! My only complaint was that the waiter was not very attentive. So if you try this place out sit at the bar and talk with the owner he's a pretty cool guy. read more

They really need to get better sushi chefs. Each piece of our spider roll just fell apart, and the crab had the softness that you get when its been around a bit too long. Spicy california roll had the same disintegration problem to a lesser degree. The jalapeno slice just overwhelmed any other flavors. I like hot, but not when its all there is. I am not sure what has changed over the years, but my mother and I went here a month ago and thought the sushi was fantastic AND it was even on a Monday (I think)!!!! One notable dish was the tuna/garlic/green onion appetizer (can't remember the exact name). It was amazing, and worth having again and again. Service was also excellent and accommodating. My 11-year-old son, my mom, my sister, and I just ate here for a late lunch on Friday 12/26/14. It was quiet, not too busy. The waitress was nice (not lively, but pleasant), and the chef's were friendly when we said 'thank you' on our way out. We usually like Shogun, but it was closed so we went to Crazy Fish. I was quite surprised because it was delicious, and very satisfying. I would almost say I liked it better than Shogun (but maybe not - I'll have to go back to Shogun soon to compare). Under new management ... so let's throw away the reviews older than six months. As with most sushi restaurants, I head to the bar and explore what the chef offers once he realizes that this isn't my first sushi rodeo. I was pleased that the portions of shashimi were quite generous although the fish was just okay... on balance a good value for Abq sushi. The wait staff has rotated once again, and I was surprised to be "carded" despite my youthful 60 something. The discussion we had was pleasant so we agreed to disagree... my wife then got carded! Bottom line is that the new owner/chef seems to be trying hard, extending business hours to all day, and was attentive to us at the bar. Will definitely return to see how consistent the quality/value equation is...stay tuned. For out-of-towners, don't expect the highest quality sushi in NM generally...but the location is great for a walk down the best that remains of the original feel of Route 66 and you can fix your sushi needs at a reasonable price. read more

A busy restaurant is always a good sign and this place was very busy when we visited. The miso soup is a good start and if you are a fan of all things tempura you gotta try theirs. It is fabulous. We ate a number of rolls and they were all good, but the one that stood out was the Albacore Roll. It is delicious. This place is great. I tend to judge sushi restaurants by their tuna roll and avocado roll. Both of those at Crazy fish have been awesome each of the 4 times I have ordered them. Super fresh ingredients. Great sourcing. The price averages out to being reasonable because some menu items are very inexpensive and others price a bit above other local sushi joints. I decided to go into here on a whim with my daughter before a show. The waitress was the only thing worth the visit. She talked to my little girl and made her laugh and even talked to her when I left for the bathroom. What made me mad was not only the food but the other form of service. The manager or cook was too busy talking to another customer who he seemed to knew and kept joking around. I told our waitress (tabatha) that we needed to get our food quick, only people in restaurant minus the chefs friends. I see the waitress put in our food in the back and then tties to talk to the cook who obviously is impatient with her. She said she let him know we were in a hurry. We ordered fried rice and noodles. We got miso soup and the seaweed seemed gross to me And the miso soup seemed off...so I had the girl take it away. The cook Kept talking to the customers sitting next to them and this is like ten minutes later! Finally I think the waitress was upset and said something he got up and started grumbling and then I asked her to just put it in a to go box. waitress took my payment early so I could get out of there to my show...I get the food and left. The noodles were undercooked and then the fried rice had RAW flipping eggs mixed In. Obviously he rushed and screwed it up. We ended up getting taco cabana later. I regret going to this place so much, waitress is the only thing that was nice about the place. I did like the decor too and it was quite clean. Stay away! Sushi - great. Service - ehhh. I guess Crazy Fish isn't new, but I never knew of its existence until about two months ago. My friend and I decided to try it out for dinner at 7pm on a Saturday night. We walked in and all the tables were taken. The restaurant is tiny, but they do their best to fit in as many tables as possible. The wait for a table was about ten minutes, so not too bad. Half of those minutes were us staring at an open table that hadn't been cleaned. Then a second table became available. Once a table was cleaned, we were ushered to our seats. I requested a different table (the other dirty one) because it was more secluded and was near one table as opposed to two tables. I was told "No" because they wanted to save it for more people...I get that, but looking around I would say about 90% of four-person tables were taken by two people. We sat down and about ten minutes later were served water. Five minutes went by and we were provided with a sushi menu. We ordered the Crunchy Roll, New Mexico roll, and a Spicy Tuna roll. Twenty minutes later two rolls arrived. Ten minutes later the other roll arrived. The sushi was really, really good. But service was really, really awful. Our water cups were empty for about forty minutes once we were served. I watched as the table next to us was receiving some sort of service and was trying to get their waitresses' attention. I failed and the two women at the table saw my attempt and said, "At least you guys have cups." I probably won't be back. I'll just stick with Sumo Sushi or Sushi and Sake. We paid about $35 for three rolls and waters. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for our first anniversary. We waited for ten minutes before a server came to our table. The waitress apologized and said she did not see us. No big deal at first. We ordered drinks, and then proceeded to wait another ten minutes for them to arrive. Even after this we decided to order, big mistake. We waited 45 minutes for and appetizer. The table next to us sat down, got drinks and sushi before we even got our appetizer. Since at this point our waitress was obviously ignoring us my boyfriend talked to another server. He apologized and went to see what the wait was about, he came back with a cold, dried out squid appetizer. Gross. Then he brought some of our sushi order....only none of it was what we ordered. Finally feeling hungry, and angry we left. And went to Sushi and Sake down the street. Where we were sat, given drinks and an order of amazingly fresh and delicious sushi in ten minutes. The server never checked in despite relatively few people in the restaurant, and walking past us no fewer than five times.
