Catfish, fries and corn and hush puppies
Peggy W.

This place has been here a hot minute and it is usually busy so we haven't tried, so spur of the moment visit worked out great. There's a bar inside and we were seated right away then got our tea, browsed the menu and ordered. Hubs got fried catfish and I got fried butterfly shrimp. Both were tasty and cooked well. Food was hot and fresh. The ambiance was nice, casual with music in house that was setting up but we didn't stay to listen. Only downside is the server refilled hubs tea and reached OVER my plate which made me mad....Luckily I was almost done but that totally is not how you bring tea back to the table, and reach over the customer when you can just walk beside me and give to him, so rude.

Oysters on the half shell

Food was great the service was also impeccable with a ton of great atmosphere. They have live music tonight and it was a good mix of people on a Friday night. The oysters were fresh and a delicious start. The fried catfish is delicious and melts in your mouth. Overall it was a great meal and I will be coming back.

Gator Bites

Appetizer of gator bites were brought out but we had to ask for sauce. They were great and remoulaude sauce was too!! Our shrimp was great but the corn was over cooked and the hush puppies were under cooked. The seafood chowder would have been amazing if it had been hot. It was room temp at best but filled with tons of stuff! The ambiance was nice, we sat outside. The poor girl waiting the patio was running her legs off. So service was a bit slow. I would definitely go back though!

We recently went for our first time after hearing great reviews. We went for the Tuesday night oyster special and had the raw oysters for $1 each and grilled oysters for $2 each. They were fresh and very good. We will come back again soon to try the shrimp. Also, they are having a lobster night soon, and we are planning on going to that as well. I highly recommend this place for great food, great service, and great atmosphere.

Very bland and generic for Cajun. The service was good. The food was meh. It wasn't bad, but it was just ok.

Last Frontier - T-bone and fries

Last Frontier

(7 reviews)

We stopped by the Last Frontier for dinner last night -- this little rustic gem sits just outside…read moreCarbon Hill, smack dab in the middle of nowhere... and I mean that in the best possible way. It's the kind of place that feels like it should come with a story or two about someone's uncle catching a catfish "this big," told over a glass of sweet tea. The menu is loaded with hearty steaks and all the fixin's, but my wife and I went straight for the catfish -- and it did not disappoint. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and seasoned so perfectly it made me forget I ever pretended to be on a diet. We kicked things off with cheese sticks, because let's be honest -- if anything can hold life together, it's melted cheese. Inside, you get that rustic, down-home charm -- cozy tables, friendly faces, and a salad bar fit for VIPs (if only the plates weren't the size of a Tweety Bird coaster). Still, we piled them high and went back for seconds because we're not quitters. Now, the service was a little on the slow side, but hey -- when the food's this good, it's worth the wait. Besides, this hidden gem stays packed with locals, and even outsiders like us were greeted with a smile and treated like regulars. Dinner came out hot -- two golden catfish fillets and a loaded baked potato that could've been a meal all by itself. That "loaded butter mixture" they serve with it? Pure magic -- it deserves its own spot on the menu. We were so full by the end of the meal that dessert had to come home with us. Both of us went for the cheesecake, and let me tell you -- wow. That first bite felt like a cowboy in the 1800s striking gold along the last frontier. Smooth, rich, and downright heavenly -- it was the perfect ending to a great meal. All told, the Last Frontier is a solid 4-star stop in the middle of nowhere that's absolutely worth finding. Next time, we'll be back to see if the steaks can live up to the catfish -- though that's a tough act to follow!

Awesome salad bar great steak cooked perfectly medium good service lovely place decorated nicely…read morethe staff is nice
