Everything was quite decent. I think all the stars goes to the service. The servers are very attentive and I would come here again because I felt you get the attention you need for a dish that's so messy. I enjoyed the 2 pounds of shrimp. Had one pound of shrimp in cajun medium and the other pound in cave style medium. I recommend to bump up the spice level to "spicy" if you want to experience anything strong. The fries were the skinny crispy type. It was good, but it wasn't piping hot when it was served, and I enjoy fresh batch of hot fries. Overall, it was a decent experience, nothing bad to say. We've been at the Crawfish Cave three times now and each experience has always satisfied us! The staff and service are excellent, the food is fresh, and it's a wonderful place for a weekend lunch. FOOD: First time here and the seasoning (cave-style All-in/ Mild) was as so flavorful & delicious. We ordered shrimp & snow crab legs and the quality of the food was very good, very fresh. We also added corn & potato to our order, the corn was my favorite. We also ordered the Cajun fries... they were ok, the seasoning was over barring on them just because there are super thin... so maybe I'll ask for lite seasoning next time if that's an option. So I'm not sure if it's a staffing issue here but there was literally one server (Jazmin) for the entire restaurant and it was a busy hour... we went in around 6pm. Came here with a group on Sunday evening. Staff was very attentive. Got shrimp with heads. Seasoning was on point. Also got to try some of their other menu items like fish and chips, calamari, garlic noodles and golden fish balls. A boiling crab like restaurant where they serve a variety of seafood in a melting pot of sauce. Today, decided to try other items just for the heck of it. My parents really enjoy oysters here, but I'm not much of a fan. It was lunch time and there was plenty of seating. Probably because it's a weekday. Ordered a seafood ceviche, garlic noodle with sausage, corn, and truffle fries. Food here is delicious. The garlic noodle has ALOT of garlic which I like but gives me a breath which would make crawfish crawl to their cave. Ok that was bad. The ceviche is a good portion but the tostadas are small and not enough. Truffle fries are good. The aroma of truffle always helps me enjoy my meal. So we visited this place to try since it seemed like it's like boiling crab. And it's located at DTF what can go wrong? I was wrong. It was far different from boiling crab. The flavor is not the same.. it doesn't have that same kick to the flavor if you know what I mean. We didn't know but I guess you can get your shrimp peeled or whole. We were surprised when the waiter brought our shrimps peeled. We asked what happened cuz we never asked to peel them. He said that's what we told him to do. We told him we didn't know and we never asked him to do that. He said that's what what ordered. We didn't want to argue so we said that's fine. We ordered the $69.99 which has king crab, snow crab, 1 lb of shrimp, sausage, and corns. We got medium spiciness. It was literally 2 king crab legs and few skinny snow crab legs and shrimp that looks like they used the peeled shrimp instead of whole to cook it. 2 small size corns, few pieces of sausages, and 2 red potatoes. I was disappointed at the portion and the flavor. We also ordered onion rings, sweet potato fries, and garlic noodles. The side dishes were fine but the main dishes were off. I don't have high expectations for places that serve food similar to Boiling Crab, due to the lack of creativity of what you can actually do with a menu as such. Not saying Boiling Crab is any better, but if you're going to copy, you should still try to make it your own. With that said, the food. Here is a list of items I have tried there: Chowder Burrito Calamari appetizer Fried Shrimp w/ Garlic Fries Shrimp with 'cave sauce' medium spicy It's always nice to try something different and unfortunately, it didn't work in my favor. If we have to compare to Boiling Crab, this places sauce is a bit too much on the saltier side. The shrimp was overcooked and difficult to peel. Kind of surprising. Came in on a friday night during Happy Hour which offers $2 off beers!! Located in the heart of Down Town Fullerton with a private lot shared with other local eateries. It can get busy later in the day so just be ready to drive around or park across the street in the social district. The outdoor patio offers games like cornhole, large Jenga blocks, Large connect 4. Food can be eaten on the patio but it's self clean up and the food will not be served in the traditional bag. We ordered 1LB of shrimp "all in - Medium spice" and 1LB of mussels "all in - Medium spice". The food and drinks came out quick but the portion size of the food seem less than what we ordered. The staff here were welcoming and the manager of the location clearly wanted to make sure that everything was fine. One word "embarrassing" I feel embarrassed for the owner. I wrote a review before Covid and gave them a solid 4star review. Fast forward to October 4, 2020: Called for ten mins, four times, to find out if they were open and seating indoor/outdoors to no avail, just busy a signal. Get to the restaurant at 630pn on a Sunday, seated in about 5 mins. Awesome. Ordering drinks and food items went well, server reread our order us perfectly, 20 mins later we were served doubled plastic bags with seafood on a paper lined table.....we just paid $180 worth of seafood on butcher paper. Yes I know this is kind of a crab bake place and I know about crab bakes. After the two bags were delivered we realized that we were missing 2 other orders were not delivered, told the runner about the missing items. 20 mins later the other items were still not delivered. I stepped inside and looked for a mgr or someone in charge. A supervisor approaches me and says who she is. I ask where our orders are she says they are on their way, my thought is she put the order "on the fly" so while she was talking to us our shrimp I delivered to the table. Also they didn't offer crab crackers as they "were stolen" and only had 6 for the entire restaurant. My main problem was the fact it felt like the food was just slapped down on a picnic table. I will not be back till Covid is over. FYI the supervisor tells us there is no manager on duty at the time.....mistake by owner/restauranteur. Is seems like they don't care. Had a disappointing experience here. I have been waiting to try this place since I first heard of it's opening due to its similarities with Boiling Crab. Food: Ordered the Garlic Noodles, Crazy Cave Tot Fries, and oysters for our group of three people. The noodles were good, but too greasy, flavor was good but covered by the grease in excess detracted from their overall taste. The Tot fries were also excessively greasy and there was a leaking pool of beef grease that spread out of the basket it was in and leaked all over the table. It caused the once crispy tater tots to go soggy which was a disappointment. The oysters were pretty bland and not robust, as I have seen before. They were $1 for happy hour and I honestly would have not wanted to pay more for what they were. Price: With three drinks and the food above the bill came to about $70. Definitely felt we did not get our moneys worth. Service: Our table was barely attended to and we were ignored several times. They did not refill our water cups when needed either. I've eaten po boys all across Louisiana and Mississippi and never expect anything to come close to the worst ones I've had there. This place reinforced my thought...a little too well. Got the shrimp Po Boy. 4 shrimp does not a po boy make. There was more greenery on the bread than there was protein. Shrimp was good but massively under seasoned. I will say the bread was the closest I've had to true po boy bread but still not much to brag about. Ordered an iced tea. Was asked if I wanted it sweet. I said yes. Cool little spot that does seafood by the pound on wax paper. I was ready for some tacos and fries, but on my server Jessica's rec I got the Spicy Garlic Noodles with Andouille Sausage. They were very tasty, seasoned well and not too spicy. More pepper sauce spicy than hot sauce melt-your-face spicy. The side of Steamed Vegetables was cooked well and unseasoned. All the serving sizes were large, so leftovers are sure to fill me up this week. The vibe in the restaurant is very casual and the perfect place to wear a bib without looking ridiculous. It's a sad day to finally leave this review. I was a huge fan of Crawfish Cave when it first opened. My family and I would visit almost every week or at least a couple times a month. We were Boiling Crab and Kicking Crab fans until we tried Crawfish Cave. When Crawfish cave first started they used to have a multiple choice of oysters. Through the rough times of getting customers in the doors to eat up the inventory of oyster I understand the minimize of oyster selection but as time went on the flavor of shrimp seasoning the flavor felt very bland. Three visit and the flavor never got any better. I've tried multiple times to give this gem a try but they have failed to fulfill previous customers complaints of tasteless shrimp. They clearly have cut back on cost of seasonings and it has showed in the tasteless shrimp. I didn't want to make this post because I really loved this place when they driest opened but as typical restaurants they cut cost by using cheaper and less product that affect the taste and experience. I won't be returning as I've given this place three attempts to improve its taste over two years and the same boring bland taste. Sorry Crawfish Cave hopefully you take your customers complaints serious because on a Friday night when you first opened there was a wait. I checked in to get their free fish balls which were pretty decent. Looks like there were fish eggs/tamago. I probably would consider ordering them if they no longer offered it free as part of checking in on yelp. Now on to the main purpose of coming here which is to get a bag of seafood. I ordered the bucket for $42.95 which allowed us to choose 3 lbs of seafood with choice of crawfish, shrimp, clams, and mussels. We opted for 2 pounds of shrimp, 1 pound of mussels, and 1 pound of clams. Immediately I knew the mussels were not fresh as they were served on half shells. I also could taste that they weren't fresh. It's generally pretty obvious when mussels are served fresh or not. Mussels looked to be frozen in my books. It was too chewy. The clams were decent. The shrimp was not all that great. They don't trim off the poop sack although many don't do it either but would have liked them to. Many pieces were overcooked/mushy which was not good. Some pieces were good but majority were just borderline overcooked. The shrimp shells were stuck real hard onto the meat. Fresh and cooked well shrimp would typically have a firm hard shell and would be easy to de-shell but I did not feel it here. Their sauce was alright, pretty standard and same as other places I have tried. This place didn't really leave much a lasting memory for me except for the fish balls which I got free! Probably won't be coming here for their seafood bags. I feel maybe boiling crab is the only one that truly knows how to cook their seafood in a bag and the rest are just not as good imitators. read more

Very decent spot to go to for my Cajun style seafood fix + oyster fix! I usually do the shrimp and I realized that the shrimp sizes can vary on different days. But most of the time in my experience, the shrimp sizes are larger which means they don't skimp on their own cost. During happy hour the oysters are $1 per. They have been on point and very fresh most of the time. They're chef choice and so I think the person preparing them also matters. They carry a decent selection and they're shucked and cleaned appropriately - nice and cold, just the way I like them. The garlic noodles are actually very good, I finally broke down to try them. The place usually always has seating even after 5 or 6pm and and can get busy due to larger families and groups. We've never needed to wait so that's a plus. So all in all, for a Cajun seafood fix and oyster craving, this place will suit you just fine!! Although I might consider taking 1 Star away for what I believe are issues with consistency related to food and service, I don't believe they necessitate it. Hope this helps! read more

Love this place! Been here at least a dozen times and I always walk away in a happy mood because the waitstaff is exceptionally nice and friendly. They just somehow find really sweet people. The seafood is available with your choice of seasoning and spice level so you can cater it to your taste. I love the shrimp and we always gets the snow crab. Unfortunately you are required to order a pound or I would get the shrimp more often. Its a LOT for me. Took leftovers home and sautéed it back up in the sauce and it was so yummy. If you don't want to peel the king crab or snow crab with all that sauce and get super messy (although that's probably the fun of it!) then you can ask for sauce on the side. They even offer a little light under the sauce kettle bowl to keep it warm while you peel. I've had all the different types of fries and truffle is my personal favorite. I wasn't that impressed with the spicy crazy cave tots but my husband devoured it. I think their calamari rings are deeeeelicious. The breadcrumbs they use to fry is really yummy. So I also love their fried shrimp as well. Almost forgot to mention their New England Clam Chowder is AMAZING. I love the creamy broth and how its chock full of potatoes. The wings were kind of large and had that weird fuzz on it but i still tried it and the flavor was really good. You get free fish balls with check-in but I haven't tried. Garlic noodles are good but a bit too salty and flavorful for me. I can only take a couple bites and need to offset it with rice or something. When she came back, she had just finished speaking to a manager. She returned and let me know they no longer gave free fish balls for check ins. Well, you should have said something in the beginning when you had made it out to be okay. You should have taken them off anyway for making us believe they would be when we placed our order.
