Tonight I was coming home from visiting family and I saw Crave had posted a S'mores cookie on their IG. I decided it was my sign to finally patronize this lovely establishment. I've held out long enough, my willpower failed me and the fact that there was a parking spot right out front proved it was destiny. Crave is a cute little bakery and the latest small business in Pitman, having opened in 2020. I initially stopped in for coffee but the baked goods are definitely the star of show here. The shop is small but has an outsized selection of cookies, brownies, and donuts--both regular and gluten-free varieties. There is a lot of creativity and something for everyone to like on the menu. The baked goods are complimented with an equally extensive list of coffee, espresso, and tea beverages. They are open relatively late for a bakery which is convenient. This is our second time here and my boys love their chocolate chip cookies! Crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. This was also the first time we had fresh out of the oven ones! To name a few we've tried: Reese cup cookie, chocolate chip cookies, sprinkle, m&m, and Reese pieces. (Granted they all have special names). Price wise, they aren't the cheapest. I woke up excited on my son's birthday. We had celebrated with cake on Sunday, but since it was the actual day, I decided to go to Crave in Pittman, NJ, to buy a dozen cookies. When I asked the lady if they were soft, she said "some might be". It was morning, so I'm sure they were from the night before. I noticed some freshly baked cookies on trays and requested those, but she told me they couldn't serve them yet. When I asked if they were too hot, she said no, but I have to sell the ones in the case first. She offered to microwave me the old stale cookies in the case. I explained that during my last visit, the cookies were hard, and my son prefers them soft and lighter in color--not as well done as the ones in the case. She responded with a rude attitude, saying they needed to sell the other cookies first. I asked why she was being so unpleasant, mentioning it was my son's birthday. She continued with a nasty attitude, called me "hun" (which was condescending), and then said, "This is my store, and I'm the owner, so you can leave!" OMG what a gluten free dessert heaven! I had Crave on my list to try for months and finally got a chance to stop in today. I was instantly impressed by the cute interior, delicious aromas, and huge selection of cookies (and pastries at their neighboring location). The staff were very welcoming and helpful. I picked the honey lavender gluten friendly cookie which is also nut free. The cookie was closer to a honey shortbread base with a nice drizzle of lavender icing. I had been hearing good things about this cookie store, and during my morning walk I thought I give them a try. I like the idea of a town bakery, and places like this give me warm and fuzzy feelings. They had many cookie choices. Most of the cookies were 2.75 a piece. The cookies are thick and big. Not huge, but big enough that you're not worried about the 2.75 price. While they had some brownies, they didn't have any chocolate brownies which was a little strange to me. I'm not a peanut butter brownie person, nor a blonde brownie person. I just like chocolate, and maybe some walnuts. So no brownies today. They had vegan choices, so all my veggie peeps, you may be able to get something here. I ordered a snickerdoodle, and a chocolate chip. The first thing I noticed when I took a bite out of the chocolate chip cookie, was not enough butter. I like a buttery cookie. This cookie was just okay. Also not enough salt, and something else was missing either the brown sugar or the molasses wasn't strong enough for me. A little too much flour. The chocolate chips were just okay, nothing to write home about, and not big enough either. I think this cookie would be better served with chocolate chunks instead of chips. It might bring out the taste of the cookie better. The chocolate chip cookie I would probably give a 4 1/2 out of 10. The snickerdoodle had the same problems as the chocolate chip cookie. Not enough butter, not enough salt. It's supposed to be a sugar cookie with cinnamon. The cinnamon was okay, but the sugar cookie part was just so so. The middle of the cookie was a lot better than the edges. I could taste the butter in the middle of the cookie. Also, the flour wasn't overpowering in this cookie, which was a good thing. This cookie was about a 6 1/2 out of 10. Final Verdict My feeling is when you're going for cookies, you're not looking for health. Add a little more butter, add a little more salt. Or maybe just use salted butter in the batter. A little bit more molasses in the chocolate chip cookies, and maybe change the flour. It gave them a store-bought taste. Is this a place I would go out of my way for? If I was taking a walk through pitman, and doing the shops, this would be an okay treat. If I was looking for a go-to cookie place, there are other places in the area that are a little bit better. Not to knock this place, but overall I'd give them a 6 out of 10. Don't get me wrong. They have a lot of variety and a lot of the cookies look very appetizing. But basic cookies you should be able to pull off. No chocolate brownies. The coffee was good though. read more

I am new to the area and was trying to find a bakery to get a vegan carrot cake for my grandson's birthday. Although Crave doesn't typically make whole cakes, they were so accommodating. Since they do make vegan carrot cake bars, they were willing to leave 6 bars uncut. I provided a quarter sheet board and box and they went above and beyond by writing on the cake and decorating it. Crave Bakery is absolutely a dream come true. As a Celiac patient, this bakery is a life saver. Their gluten free items are the absolute BEST that I have ever had. I've tried many. But Crave outdoes themselves every single time I go there. The flavor is phenomenal! The consistency is perfect (just like the regular goodies with gluten)! We live an hour away and are always willing to take the drive for yummy goodies. My kids always pick out the regular goodies, then I pick the gluten free goodies. The OMG bars are fantastic , my favorite! All of their stuff freezes nicely too to last even longer. And add to it, their customer service is top notch! I'm always a pain bc items need to be separated due to allergies and they never hesitate and are always helpful and sweet. This place definitely deserves 5 stars! Crave is awesome! I knew they had Gluten-free cookies but I went in on Saturday morning around 10:45 to see if they had Gluten-free Dairy-free cookies. They did not but Craig Pittman, the owner, was there and he said he would make it his "project". He took my name and number. I didn't expect a call for a few days. 2 hrs later he called and said he came up with a recipe and the cookies would be ready in an hour if I wanted them. I went to pick them up and they were absolutely delicious! All of our guests that day loved them!
