we were out hopping estate sales and I said to my husband 'where's a bakery?'. before I even opened yelp to look for one, I saw a sign :the bake shop by stella right in front of me! serendipity! walking into this little boutique of pastry is a pleasure. So many nice looking options, and pleasant people working behind the counter. they told me they've been in business for 10 years, we have just never driven by. I'm keeping this little gem in my saved places for future visits. the chocolate glazed was a fluffy tender cloud with a perfect chocolate glaze. the st patrick's day theme was cute, green sprinkles and a little hat decoration. also ordered the french cream donut not realizing it's one of the top options, it was so fresh and the buttercream was top notch. they also have coffee to go with your sweet or savory choice. read more

I visited for the first time last month. This bakery in my hometown is situated just off Delsea Drive, but you wouldn't notice it from the street. An Instagram friend posted a series of photos of their baked goods and I was immediately sold. It was genuinely hard not to order every item they offered. The sugar cookies I had were the star. They were so gooey yet still cooked and perfectly sweet. I also had the double chocolate cookies and the blueberry crumb cake. I live a few states away, but Stella will for sure be on my rotation for when I'm visiting the area in the future. read more

Such a nice bakery. My first time here. There's a great selection of cookies, muffins, coffee cakes, and cupcakes.. I've driven by this place for quite some time without stopping in. It really is in an odd, unsuspecting place. Just pull in when you see the "Bake Shop" sign on the street. You won't be disappointed. One of my favorite items bought there is the blueberry scone. Also, the cookies are delicious and a bargain at $1 for a large cookie. Need a cake for event's, well this is apparently something that they do well. I was searching for a nearby bakery to make my sons first birthday cake and I actually stumbled across Stella's Baking Company on instagram! So I decided to take a chance and visit the bakery. First off, the place is well oriented and smells divine. I met with a woman whose name I don't recall, and told her what I was looking for in terms of design and color and she made suggestions that went along with my "Wild One" theme such as the pampas grass and I handed her my animal toppers and that was it. I went to pick up the cake the day before the party and was pretty nervous. I believe the gentleman who brought out the cake was named Mark and when he showed me the cake, it was amazing! The cake was absolutely beautiful and most importantly tasted great!!! ALL my guests raved about it from the design, to the taste and asked where we ordered from. Ordered a cake and some cupcakes for a baby shower. Stella's did a beautiful job decorating every one. I didn't give much direction but gave an idea of the theme and they surpassed expectations. The cake was the absolute best I've had and the cupcakes were amazing too! Everyone at the shower loved them and are planning a visit to the bakery to sample more of their delicious baked goods! I was truly disappointed in the experience I had with Stella! Baking Company. My wedding venue had nothing but wonderful things to say about them, which I trusted. I met with Christine, about a year before our wedding due to the fact that we live in Texas and I don't come home often (we are NJ natives, which is why our wedding is in the area) and wanted to get the cake taken care of. We didn't want a super complex design so I figured this was safe to do. My mom and I did the cake tasting and I was even able to buy some cupcake versions of the cake to bring home to my husband ( yes, i took them on the plane home!). I gave her a photo of the cake we wanted, a three tier cake with simple lines. I asked for pearls to be placed on each tier, the one request my husband made. Then I asked for a white dahlia and purple flowers to be placed along the left side of the cake- the reference photo I gave her shows something similar with pink flowers. I was assured this could be done. It was all notated even on the contract that was emailed to me. I was making my own cake topper- a giraffe figurine Mr and Mrs on the top and she gave me a platform I could decorate. Easy. Since we wanted to add the flowers- not included in the price from the venue- and because we were only having a 50 person wedding, we needed to pay for a third tier. The "anniversary" tier at the top was not included. Okay, fine, we paid the extra. I emailed her about the base I was later deciding on, she was responsive to the emails. And right before the wedding, I asked when I should drop off the base and the topper. I was instructed to just bring it to the venue with my other decorations and they would take care of it. Okay... The morning of the wedding- we had a brunch wedding- I saw the cake and was shocked at how it looked NOTHING like the photo I had given them for reference. It also did not match anything on our contract. The contract listed specific flowers, placement, and the pearls around each tier were missing on our cake! I am still astounded, a month later, that this cake was made so wrong. At that point on the wedding day, seeing the cake 30 minutes before the ceremony, there was obviously nothing I could do to fix it. The only reason I am giving even 2 stars is because the cake tasted very good, better than the tasting cake even. But I am upset everytime I look at our photos from that day. It's totally inexcusable. Stella! offered to give us the extra we paid for the top tier and the flowers back, which obviously was better than nothing. But the cost we paid per person for the cake we did not receive back- and the venue told me to contact Stella. At this point, I am just truly disappointed because I can never redo this cake. Many cakes I have seen done by them have been intricate and beautiful. Ours is very plain, and it almost seems like they forgot they had the cake to do for our Friday morning wedding. I am not sure, but obviously, still upset on my side. This is a tardy review of a very memorable, wonderful, cake Stella! made for us in September of 2019. The cake was two layers vanilla cake soaked with Chambord Liqueur, frosted with vanilla bean buttercream icing, and with added blueberry preserves between layers. It was not cheap but a not unreasonable price for an exceptionally good cake. 80% served nearly three dozen guests with an intentioned 20% section reserved to us. As well, the consultation session was a gracious and delightful experience, with tastes covering the cake, icing, and preserves options. It was a delightful experience designing the cake in consultation with Stella! and delighting in the result. Many compliments. read more

I (and I cannot stress this enough) was completely blown away with the quality and flavor of everything Stella has to offer. My friend surprised me with a box of goodies from this bakery after we have been sending each other post after post of their mouthwatering desserts on Instagram. We always talked about making the trip to try some of their goodies and yesterday the goodies were brought to me! My fiancé and I got to sample a variety of different treats: the turtle brownie, maple bacon donuts, cupcakes (red velvet, chocolate chip, chocolate), a cinnamon roll, blueberry muffin, spinach feta pastry, and a croissant drizzled with chocolate and stuffed with cannoli cream. When I tell you there was not one thing in this box that was "meh", I seriously mean it. Every single thing was a 10/10 for me, including the donut (and I say this because I'm not crazy about maple and bacon). Oh my GOSH, this place is an absolute must try! I can go on and on about how good each individual pastry was, but this review would be a novel. I can say that I'm already figuring out how I can get my wedding cake made here and transported to Asbury Park, because I already know it would be worth it. Just trust me and go. I'm already planning a trip there and have been non stop telling my friends and family about this box of magical pastries.
