My current dentist Dr. Fan in Santa Rosa is out of the office due to medical reasons. He was in the…read moreoffice for one week and told me to see a dentist to help me with tooth number 6 that is crown and a post that had recently fallen out. A friend suggested Dr. Shevchuck. I called the office and the front desk assistant Danielle sounded helpful so I made an appointment. The next day she sent an electronic form to fill out which I did, When I arrived for my appointment she handed me a clip board and asked me to fill out the same forms yet again. Then she said she could not find my Delta Dental number. I told her I had given my number and group number on the form. Then I met a technician who had me hold metal spacers in my mouth so she could take photos of my teeth. It was so complicated that she had to have another assistant help. Meanwhile while I am sitting in the chair a fly is buzzing around my head. The technician said she would take my blood pressure and I said it will be high and she asked why? I answered that I was dealing with a dental emergency with unfamiliar staff. In came another technician to measure my gums. The first technician recorded the numbers and then said they were appearing on the screen twice. Evidently, she had the wrong page open on the app and the gum measuring technician had to re enter the numbers. The horror of all horrors in came the front desk assistant asking me for my Delta Dental numbers again and could I while sitting in the chair email her the information!! In all my years of going to the dentist I have never seen this happen!! I told her that she could take a photo of my Delta Dental information from my phone and she did not want to do that. Then she said she could not reach my Delta Dental Insurance from the number I had given and could I get another number for her????? After all that the first technician took my blood pressure and it was high!! After a short while Dr. Shevchuck came in and asked who my previous dentist was. I said Dr. Fan and received no smile or nod just a faraway stare. Dr examined my teeth and said that I had spent a lot of money in the past on dental care. I already knew that. He said I had two back molars that needed crowns but I said was in an emergency situation wanting help with tooth number 6. He talked about taking care of that tooth but I never really knew what his plan was. He yawned during that time of talking to me about my teeth. The he wanted to know when I was due for a cleaning and I said in October. He prattled on about how canines or tooth number 6 was such a strong tooth and all I could think of was "But number 6 is a crown with a post" so his words were useless. I went to the front desk and they said because they could not verify my insurance they could not give me a treatment plan. I had no idea what the doctor was planning to do. I called the office on Monday around noon and asked if the treatment plan was available and got an "oh" comment and I will look into that. I waited a few hours and called again and Mercedes answered the phone. She called me back an hour later and then sent me the plan. Dr Shevchuck wanted to replace the broken crown with another post and crown and all along I had asked for an implant. If another post and crown are done then in a few years I will need an implant. Areal wast of time and money. Horrified, I called a dentist in Santa Rosa who could see me the next day for a consultation. He took one look at tooth number 6 and referred me to an implant specialist who I met the following day. Neither of these dentists were concerned about my other teeth and focused on the tooth that fell out. Bingo. As soon as I knew I had the right dental team who were both professional and served me with a smile..oh and both offices found my insurance immediately.... i called Dr Shecchuck's office to cancel. Now today they sent me a bill for $116.00 because I was late cancelling my appointment. Be smart and do not visit this office. Your teeth deserve a professional who is caring.

She is an incredible dentist; kind, thorough, and someone I have trusted with my care for many years. I would recommend her without hesitation. 5 stars for her! Unfortunately, my recent experience was disappointing due to billing/insurance. Prior to my most recent visits, I would call to make an appointment and no one would answer, I finally left a voicemail and the call was returned days later. During my last visit for a cleaning, I scheduled a major procedure for the following weeks and specifically requested that a copy of the cost estimate be emailed to me. The email was never sent. I later received a text to confirm the upcoming appointment and replied asking for someone to call me. No one did. I then called the office myself and left a message. When my call was eventually returned, I again asked about the estimate and clearly requested that it be emailed to me. I still never received it, it was only verbally provided. After switching insurance plans, I discovered that Dr. Ocampo is no longer in-network with my current insurance, which explained the very high estimate I was quoted. I compared costs with in-network providers and found a significant difference. Had I not followed up on my own and requested the estimate, I could have unknowingly paid a large out-of-network cost. I called back to confirm and was extremely disappointed in the woman's response and tone. While I continue to have the utmost respect for Dr. Ocampo, the lack of communication and follow-through regarding billing and insurance information is concerning. I rely on transparency and this completely fell short of my experience.

Dr. Stephanie has done a wonderful job taking…read morecare of our young daughter, and Dr. Johannes has shown that he is not only extraordinarily competent, but beautifully and refreshingly ethical. During my many decades as a patient of various dentists and orthodontists, I have repeatedly encountered professionals who would err on the side of an expensive procedure when a second opinion would suggest staying the course is a fine option. Dr. Johannes is a perfect example of a dentist who simply does the right thing. He and Dr. Stephanie are successful precisely because they are skilled, honest, and work hard to limit the amount of work that needs to be done. They clearly care about their clients, and they have built a successful practice the right way -- by carefully and diligently building trust. This was highlighted in a rather striking way recently. My wife came in believing that she needed to complete a significant amount of deferred dental work. Under Dr. Johannes' care, the scope of work continually decreased over the course of two appointments. He worked extremely hard to avoid additional crowns when another solution was viable. This saved us a significant amount of money (always appreciated), and more importantly, while my wife was used to a months-long recovery after having crowns put in by another dentist in the past, she has been delighted by the quality of Dr. Johannes' work and the speed of her recovery. Perhaps this is long-winded, but I just get excited about a pair of dentists who do great credit to the profession. And I can't help but contrast their approach (excellent work, but only what is necessary for the benefit of the patient) to the very different approach of a local orthodontist who actually engages in relentless "hard sell" tactics and leaves patients feeling pressured and embarrassed (as if their neighbors had just tried to sell them on the latest multi-level marketing scheme). Anyone with kids in Half Moon Bay knows who I am talking about. In any event, Dr. Johannes and Dr. Stephanie have elevated their care for their patients to the highest possible level while operating their practice with dignity and compassion. If you've read this far and you don't yet have a dentist, may I selfishly request that you look elsewhere. It can be hard to get an appointment, and I don't need any competition! On serious note, you couldn't do better than Dr. Johannes and Dr. Stephanie, and they've earned all of the success they have achieved.

A Considered Recommendation: Think Carefully Before Choosing Coastside Dentistry…read more If you're considering becoming a patient at Coastside Dentistry, I would recommend doing so with caution and careful consideration of your expectations--particularly around customer service and billing practices. My wife has been a patient there for decades, and we also brought our children to the practice until recently. While the dentists themselves have always come across as friendly and competent, our experience with the front office has consistently been disappointing. The administrative staff often communicate in a way that feels abrupt and dismissive, at times even condescending. On several occasions, I've observed interactions with patients that lacked the courtesy and professionalism one would expect in a healthcare setting. Despite this, my wife continued going to Coastside because of the convenience and her long-standing familiarity with the providers. That changed after she missed a single appointment--her first in many years--and was met with an unkind response and nearly charged a no-show fee, despite her loyal history with the practice. The tipping point came when we learned that, following a change in our insurance coverage, we would be reimbursed at a much lower rate than what the office charges. When I raised this concern, the reaction from the front office was indifferent, further confirming that it was time to move on. To be transparent, the practice has made a business decision to be out-of-network with all insurance providers, not just ours (Delta Dental, the largest dental insurer in California). While practices may choose this model to operate with greater autonomy, it generally results in higher out-of-pocket costs for patients. Unfortunately, this was our experience. For example, during our most recent visit, our two young children (ages 6 and 10) received routine cleanings and exams--basic preventive care. Despite having a high-tier dental insurance plan that typically covers 100% of these services, we were reimbursed for only 47% of what the practice charged. This level of cost misalignment, combined with the ongoing challenges with office staff, ultimately led us to seek dental care elsewhere. In short, Coastside Dentistry may be a fit for some--but it's important to go in with clear expectations regarding both service and billing. We've made the decision to move on, and I hope this review helps others make an informed choice.

When Dr. B unexpectedly passed away, I wasn't sure that I would stay. But my experiences with the new staff have won me over. Dr. Gorman is an excellent dentist. Mari is the best office manager I've seen! Christina is a natural with people at the front desk. Dr. Gorman immediately recognized and treated my abfraction and nighttime teeth grinding. I am now undergoing Invisalign to help cure the problem. I now am aware that all carbonated drinks are acidic and that I should rinse with water right after any carbonated drink. Dr. Gorman helped me transition to Invisalign trays while using my CPAP machine at night. I learned all about the new 3-D visualization of my teeth -- super cool. Dr. Gorman also taught me more about my newly prescribed CPAP machine (for sleep apnea) will help reduce teeth grinding and reduce dry mouth at night, which is bad for dental health. They know so much about all sorts of things which don't seem dental at first, but are all related to dental health! My final Invisalign trays will act as a mouth guard at night to prevent any further damage from nighttime teeth grinding. The staff as a whole work together with such goodwill towards each other and such high emotional intelligence. I think it must be a pretty good workplace environmemt, because it is certainly a very good place for me as a dental patient! Instead of this transition being bumpy for me, the new staff has brought a wealth of new information and new dental technology to help me up my dental game! Many thanks!

Front desk was friendly, the dental office/equipment looked modern, and the dentists were efficient. Each procedure was explained and front desk helped with scheduling and often notifying for upcoming appointments. So the reason why I stopped going... I had a filling redone due to it coming off. However, I had pain around the same tooth for months. I couldn't eat on that side at all. I went back in for checkups to see if they can figure out what's going on. The head dentist told me to consider getting a crown since there seems to be a cracking on the tooth. They offered to cover the costs however I thought it was a bit extreme to get a crown from a routine filling. Over the next couple months, I would go back multiple times since the pain didn't go away. This included shaving part of the filling, redoing the filling, and trying to figure out my bite. And the final time I went there for a checkup, I was just told it could just be a neurological thing and almost made it sound like it was my fault and they can't do anything about it. The only reason why I kept going back was to give them the opportunity to fix what they had messed up. I ended up looking for another dentist and I told them my issue. They were able to figure what was wrong, and redid my filling. Now I have no pain.

His work only caused additional damage. The crowns he placed were ill fitting leading to decay which ultimatelyresulted in 2 root canals by a endodontist, the root canals he performed were poorly done and damaged the teeth beyond repair, requiring 3 extractions. I referred a friend to him before i realized the horrible work he does and Dr Moon insisted on doing a root canal on a tooth that was obviously fractured. Other dental professionals I have seen in order to fix Dr Moon work just shake their heads knowingly when i tell them who did the work. I have heard from community members he recommends much more treatment than is necessary and I have yet to hear anyone say anything positive about him. . This dentist does more damage than repair and then recommends additional treatment. It is almost as though he does the damage intentionally. His answer for everything is "root canal" which he told me is his favorite procedure to perform as a dentist - actually in general, dentists rately do root cabaks, and certaibly not complicated ones. People should see an endodontist, not a dentist, for a root canal! The final straw which wa before I realized all he did was more damage, was when the office manager tried to overcharge me a couple hundred dollars for a procedure saying that my insurance would only cover a certain percentage. I didnt pay the extra money and it turned out insurance reimbursed them as originally expected. Had i paid the extra hundreds, I seriously doubt dr. Moon's office would have returned the overpayment to me. He already was arrested for insurance fraud years ago and while he didnt lose his license, he paid heavy fines, had to do community service and had people audited his books regularly for years. Please please stay away.
