Dirty tables......everywhere.
Robert P.

Women's bathroom smelled of urine (per my wife), mens bathroom was out of paper towels. When we mentioned this to the host we were told "well, we were busy today so what do you expect". Sat at the table for 15 minutes before anyone took our drink order. After placing our order (two breakfast meals) we waited over 40 minutes for our food. To make matters worse, more than half the tables around us were dirty. Overall, it was a horrible experience and not normally when we encounter at Cracker Barrel'.

Boneless fried chicken dinner

We stopped from our day of travel tired and hungry. We ordered originally the bone in fried chicken dinner. The manager called us to say they ran out of bone in chicken. He was kind enough to give us optional choices. We selected the boneless fried chicken breast, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, & rolls. The food was hot and delicious. The staff friendly and efficient. Such a nice homey atmosphere. Would recommend this restaurant and we hope to stop again.

Sampler

Once again before I write this review I have to advise I'm not a huge fan of chain restaurants. Unfortunately we didn't have many options in this part of Tennessee. During our road trip we stopped here for a quick bite. My wife went with the sampler. It was chicken and dumplings, meatloaf and a ham steak. The chicken and dumplings were edible, the ham steak was overly salted and the meatloaf was dry. The green beans were the best part of her meal. They also forgot her biscuits. I went with the chicken club. Terrible! The tenders were something a toddler would have. They also forgot my cole slaw, my corn was beyond overcooked and mushy. Lastly, the banana pudding. We had to try it because we were in the south. We had high hopes but again were let down. It was so watery, it was gross. I would not eat here or at another cracker barrel again.

The wait is worth it if you get there before 8 am. The omelettes had a lot of filling and were very good. The buckwheat pancake while thin had a really nice texture. The pot roast eggs Benedict was good but the biscuit is so thick and soft and the meat is soft that it would be better with an English muffin for a texture factor. Place is cute log cabin vibes and very busy.

People are frustrating--especially on vacation. But, if you are irritated, do not assume that you won't be understood. I speak 3 languages well and understand more. The wait was awful, but to be expected. And our waitress was helpful and friendly--though not super attentive. She was busy, though, not lazy. The food was decent. Not earth shattering. Bottom line...if you want BIG food. And you have 1.5 hours to wait for food...it is a great tourist spot. The biscuits were light and fluffy. The cinnamon roll bread is well done...but the flavor was tame and the glaze was not good. My son loved the Aretha Frankenstein pancakes. However, if you want good food, there has to be a better spot.

Great atmosphere, welcoming staff, and food that actually lives up to the hype. I ordered the shrimp and grits and let me tell you, they were outstanding. Creamy, perfectly seasoned, and loaded with flavor. Not the bland, "it'll do" kind. The real deal. Every bite was better than the last. My husband had the steak. Cooked exactly right, full of flavor, and clearly high quality. When a steak guy is impressed, you know it is serious. And the charcuterie board? Unreal. They had Prosciutto di Parma on there. You almost never see that around here, and they did not skimp. It was fresh, flavorful, and paired beautifully with everything else on the board. Thoughtful, elevated, and done right. Now let's talk about the brown sugar bourbon. They make it in house and it is beyond amazing. Smooth, rich, just the right amount of sweetness. One sip and you understand why people rave about it. Bottom line: incredible food, top notch drinks, and an experience that feels special without being stuffy. Ghost and Grits is the kind of place you go once and immediately start planning your next visit. Jefferson City is lucky to have it!

This year they were forced to move out of Chimney Rock Village because the half of the town was wiped out by Hurricane Helene. I was very excited to come support them through this tragedy because their food is simply amazing! I ordered the prime rib and it was fantastic. We had a large party and ever stated how good their meals were. If you like upscale dining, this is your place in Lake Lure. Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you. Their new location is nice. They revamped the space and the outside patio is adorable. The inside was pleasant and comfortable. Our waiter was multitasking as a waiter, food runner and bartender. So he was attentive as best he could. He did take the time to talk over menu items and even create a custom cocktail for my friend. He was awesome! There was some confusion about our reservation and our table was given to another party. It was unfortunate and did sour my experience. With that said I will always support this place as it is an amazing restaurant that I want to stay in business!

My husband and I came here for an anniversary dinner and were blown away by everything we ordered, especially the Korean Short Ribs, Fish and Chips, and Mango glazed Wings. The Calamari and Fried Green Tomatoes were also good, and though they were out of the beer I ordered, our excellent and personable server, Katie, suggested a similar one that may have been even more what I was craving! We hope to be back next time we're in the area, and will send anyone else their way. (Just a note: the restaurant is actually named "The Highlands Reserve Kitchen and Bar," not "Preserve.")
