I cannot say enough good things about this place. Dr. Joy has been absolutely amazing from day 1! I was very reluctant to get my veneers redone mostly because, like many, absolutely hate having my teeth worked on and I wasn't mentally prepared for the process (but let's face it, was never going to be :). The day I walked into Crabtree Valley Dental, I was greeted warmly by everyone and one of the front desk staff even came out and MOVED her car for me because there weren't any parking spots left. At my first appointment, they gave me a questionnaire asking me how I wanted to be communicated with (ex. "just do what you need to do, I don't want to know", "tell me everything", etc.) which I now don't understand why all doctors don't do! I was then formally introduced to every single person I encountered from the tech to the doctor all the way to the billing person. Furthermore, what initially began for mechanical reasons has now turned into an entire transformation of my smile. Every step of the way, each team member I worked with encouraged me to not stop until I was 100% happy, including and mostly Dr. Joy. In the beginning I figured they were just being nice, but they were not. Dr. Joy was so invested in me being absolutely content and confident in my teeth and smile again. Somewhere along the way I decided to also get gum contouring and she personally called the periodontist on more than one occasion to make sure everything went well and I was taken care of. She was also in contact with the prosthetist every step of the way. The last thing I was worried about (and then I'll stop rambling) was the temporaries looking funny while the veneers were made. I was apprehensive about sharing photos yet because these are just the temps and I chipped one by accident, but attached is a before and after! I've been going here for years and up until the last couple months it's been great. The dentists and hygienists are absolutely wonderful, but the front office staff is rude and incompetent. I can never get through over the phone and give emailed 4 times now with an inquiry and no response. The last time I was there I waited half a hour after my appointment time for them to finally tell me they were backed up because someone had called out sick. My mom has had an equally terrible experience with their office staff texting her sensitive medical information. I'm bummed to switch my dentist because the doctors here are so great, but dealing with this office is a nightmare. read more

I've never had so much trouble getting a doctor's office to submit basic information to insurance. I paid upfront for Invisalign treatment in early February, after being promised that they would submit the claim to my insurance. However, they did not even submit the claim to insurance for nearly 2 full months, despite multiple requests to do so. Once they finally submitted the claim (in April), my insurance asked several basic follow-up questions about the treatment so they could process the claim. It has now been another two months and Crabtree Valley Dental has still not provided that info, despite multiple letters from insurance. Over the phone, they keep assuring me they will take care of it but weeks go by with no action. It seems pretty clear now that because they received my money, they they have little interest is helping with my insurance claim. I previously had good experiences with CVD, but I do not recommend that anyone pay for any treatments up front with them. Make them submit to insurance first, because otherwise you may never see that money again. read more

They took my mom with a short notice as a new patient just before the Holiday Season. Julia was the dental hygienist that performed a tooth cleaning procedure, and she had some 20 yrs experience. The service was excellent as Julia was very thorough and made sure my mom was always in the know of what was coming next. The office experience was also great! Be warned! I have been going here for about 2 years - because I liked the hygienist. Hygienist left several appointments ago...and it was just easier not to change. But after my last appointment in March I will never go back! I honestly think I bothered the hygienist and I definitely interfered with her lunch. When I tried several times to use the suction tube to get the water out of my mouth because I was choking...she told me "I need you not to do that and touch my arm". To which I responded "I need you not to choke me." And she was not nice, and she actually left during my appointment and someone else came in. Oh and do not schedule an appointment near lunch - as I was also told they had to "find a dentist" for me. I mean then don't schedule your clients for 11 am appointments if everyone goes to lunch at noon. Front desk snapped at me when I asked for my treatment plan too - for services they recommended and that I would pay them to perform (took a week to get it, but I am not going back). Also, the website is glitchy and they send you weird texts about forms and if you are in the parking lot. And I just called to cancel my next cleaning and she literally hung up on me. read more

I've called in everyday for 1 week straight after having work done, that left me in so much pain. They finally answered after day 5, and I asked for a prescription. Ibuprofen for pain to be exact. They put me on hold, then came back and said that the doctor would do it. The young lady asked for my pharmacy. I gave it to her and she told me to wait 2hrs before picking it up. I started going to this dentist a few years ago because they had later weeknight hours and weekend hours. I had a crown put in and some older fillings fixed and then fast forward 2 years I was told the crown was done improperly and needed to redone as well as some of the fillings. At my next appointment 6 months later, I was told that nothing needed to be fixed. This caused them to lose my trust. They cannot keep track of my appointments. I recieved multiple "appointment confirmation" requests for appointments I didn't make. There seems to be a high Dr turnover. I rarely see the same Dr twice. They shame you over your hygeine practices. They complete a gum check to check for gingevitis, but don't tell me that my insurance doesn't cover it. Now, I have a high bill. This place is an absolute keystone cop operation... I do not recommend this place to anyone and may god have mercy on their souls Multiple examples of incompetence - Was promised a same day crown then I show up for the appointment and the first thing I was asked was, "Who told you we could do that? " They then said okay we are going to try to do it and then couldn't figure out how to work the machine and gave me a temporary crown. - Dentist identified additional cavities adjacent to where I was getting a filling and then spent 10 minutes explaining why they were not identified during my X-rays / checkup. Then he finished the filling and said, "oh yeah the teeth are actually fine." - A couple years ago they recommended switching from retainers to a mouth guard because of occasional jaw clicking. I switched to a mouth guard and my teeth totally shifted and have costed me thousands of dollars to rectify. High dentist turnover Almost every time I go in here, I'm seen by a new dentist. It's probably because the place is a total shit show! Customer Service is non-existent, every time I call them and ask questions they always say they will call me back and never do. Additionally almost every time I go there for an appointment I show up on time or early and end up waiting 20-30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. On top of that the staff just disappears for long intervals of time during appointments without telling you what they are doing or where they are going. I've been coming here since they opened but after this customer service abomination I am moving on. At 7:30 the evening before my appointment, I received a text reminding me about my appointment and that I would pay a cancellation fee if I didn't show up. I did not reply to the message. I arrived 15 minutes early for my 8:30 appointment and was told the appointment had been canceled because I did not reply to the text to confirm. The reminder text did not say that I had until any specific time or my appointment would be canceled. I also did not receive a message stating my appointment was canceled before I arrived. I finally received a cancellation text at 9:30 am - an hour past my appointment time. I also never received a call to check before my appointment was canceled. On top of that, when I arrived, the first thing the person did was confirm my number then gleefully tell me that I failed to respond and they canceled my appointment and would I like to reschedule? Yeah, no. I have referred so many people over the years but going forward I will be telling people NOT to go here. read more

I had moved dentists to this practice last fall because it was recommended to me by friends, and upon my first cleaning, it was a pretty positive experience. The hygienist was not the friendliest person I've encountered, but I was immediately told I needed to get a bunch of dental work done. I have had perfect teeth all my life and have had one or 2 cavities since I was a child, but the previous dental practice filled four "cavities" and now this place was telling me I had several more.... Suspicious. Fast forward to my visit in March. I had a really nice hygienist and experience with this place, and they proceeded to tell me I may have TMJ and need to get into a corrective splint. I wear a nightguard religiously every night and was in the process of replacing it after 5 years of consistent wear, and they shamed me for using a third party service to get a new nightguard. They said they were going to call me to get me set up with a TMJ consult, and they said this splint would replace a nightguard, so I cancelled my nightguard order. About a week later, I got a referral from a TMJ specialist not even with this practice. I never heard back from this dentistry practice after my appointment so I was stunned they referred me somewhere else when they assured me they could handle it in-house. Now I'm on the hunt for the third time for a dentist here that doesn't swindle me and perform all sorts of unnecessary dental work. I moved to the area a year ago and I just finished my second dental cleaning at Crabtree Valley Dental. I was nervous to try a new office but this place is the best. Everyone who works here is super warm and you don't feel nervous at all. They really go above and beyond at this place. The lady who cleans my teeth here is amazing at her job. I believe her name is Cali. She is a true perfectionist in regards to her work. I like how she's really thorough and talks to you when you get your teeth cleaned (rather than the awkward silence I've experienced at other dental offices). I felt the need to write an updated review of Crabtree Valley Dental because the service they provide today feels drastically different from the service they provided even a year ago. I gave them a glowing review less than two years ago and I can no longer stand by that review. No one seemed to know who our dentist in the office was. How that was not in any of my family records, I have no idea, but three different people asked me who my dentist was. It didn't make me feel great about the staff flow in and out. So they sent in my new dentist who let me know he would get to know each and every one of my teeth. No thanks. The equipment was outdated and lacking all around. My cleaning involved no water or scraping, or polish. Just a good stabbing with the ultrasonic cleaner. After much debate between the team about whether my fillings were cavities (they are not) and whether I wanted to have a 30-year old braces stain removed, I was on my way. Given that I had such solid experiences at Crabtree Valley Dental in the past, I thought the staff might reach out when I cancelled my families appointments and said I wouldn't be back. I did receive two surveys, but when the numbers were low that was the end. I assume they know they are not providing a high level of service. Had they reached out, I wouldn't have come online and realized that others were having a similar experience. And I still might not have written except that I noticed I wrote about them before and I just don't want people trying them today based on my review of the past. read more

When I came to CVD for the first time, the hygienist spent maybe 15-20 minutes cleaning my teeth and another 30 messing around with various image-taking devices that didn't work. When the dentist arrived, within 10 minutes, I was told that I had "destroyed" my teeth by grinding them and had caused irreparable damage. I was told that I needed over $1,000 of work, including procedures that were very invasive. I did not feel comfortable with the situation and left without committing to any work or to an enormous bill. Within the next few weeks, I switched to a new dentist at UNC who said there was no decay, nothing wrong with my teeth at all (and, between the hygienist and dentist, spent over 1.5 hr examining my teeth and x-rays). Be wary of CVD. Some people have reported positive experiences, but others have had just the opposite. You only have one set of teeth. Make sure to protect them (not to mention your wallet). read more

So I go for my cleaning. And get the upsell for x-rays that I don't need. I had to refuse them twice. Be sure, as they are on a timeline for services and stick rigidly to it, to outline any problem areas you may have. They will rush your cleaning to comply with the time frame leaving you feeling undone. Sort of feels like the Jiffy Lube of dentistry. You will get the basics, and not much more. I have been holding fire on invisilign and other services because I don't yet trust them. One hygenist was very good and considerate, the other a novice. Saw two dentists. One...hmmmm.... just ok. I have tried contacting the office directly spoken to office manger and the doctor who took the tooth out ! And was advised the wiener was out of town and then the dentist proceed to tell me that it could be my fault because I'm diabetic! But didn't check my blood sugar while in the chair only my Bp I am not the Medcial professional I came to you all with hopes of fixing an issue and it created a bigger issue , I don't as hospitalized for a week ! I missed my child's graduation !! Time off of work !!! This was beyond traumatic & to only be told it's my fault ! There is much better in the area and NC. Went in to see if I could have a cleaning, they ended up telling me that I had multiple cavities and things that needed to be filled. Showed me a bill of over $2000 for a simple cleaning, even with my insurance and the b.s., one they offer. Safe to say I didn't go back nor decide to pay for something that isn't that much... As I felt that it was questionable so, ended up just waiting for my actual dentist back in my hometown (I'm an NCSU grad student). I had no cavities and all my teeth were fine For more, I've only had one cavity and filling ever in my life, and I was a child. This place is only after money and desperate customers, even the checking of my teeth for a cleaning session they were super rough with how they handled me. Added to this up until I got my appointment to check with them, they confused me with a whole other patient, to the point they pulled up their charts and not mine... I also got the notion that they put me through or did this because they were under the belief that I couldn't pay or would be a whale for them... Either or, not cool and truly think this place should be inspected as to how they go about their business. But this is just my opinion and thought on them. Last thing! They have methods I've never seen in a dentist office, like checking blood pressure and etc... Don't know how that relates to cleaning my teeth, but sat for more than an 20min trying to do test, and when I asked why. I was met with, this is standard, what does my blood pressure have to do with cleaning my teeth? also first time meeting you and you're putting your hand in my mouth, hell yeah my pressure should be up! Dr. Hop and Mel were great as always, but the business end was absolutely awful. They owe me a reimbursement, and I was told it would take a month to process and give me a check. That is ridiculous. When it was time for me to pay for service, I didn't hesitate, but when it was time for them to correct their mistake, I can't get my money, or I have to wait for a month. Why? My family have gone there for dental service and we all had bad experience. It seems like a nice place and everyone is very friendly. However, the dentist we got is very inexperienced, but with a great deal of confidence. She told us we needed to do at least 3 fillings on those teeth that didn't bother us at all. We went ahead and did it because she seemed so confident about it. The treatment was the worst I've ever had, and my teeth still hurt a month later. My husband had the same experience, and he felt like to be rushed. His teeth still hurt too. We went back for checking a month later, got the founder of the dental office this time. However, he didn't really do much, and the problems are still not resolved. Another thing we really dislike about this place is that they always try to sell you more services and products. The marketing tricks are everywhere. I really don't know why they have such high review, which is the reason why we went there in the first place. After having an awful experience at a different dentist, I decided to come to this one instead after hearing good things about it. After speaking with them, it sounded like the previous work I had done at my previous dentist might not have been necessary. I was a patient at this establishment for three years. On September 20, 2024 I was evaluated for tooth pain. The dentist informed me that I had an infection and antibiotics was prescribe. she also stated that she would have the endodotist (specialist for root canals/tooth pain) to look at my tooth and create a treatment plan. The endodontist came in to evaluate the tooth and stated he could clean the tooth out to provide some relief until the infection is gone. Without any written consent, explanation or information given beyond the initial conversation. He turned on music (Drake) to be exact and proceeded to perform debrisment on the tooth. Once finished I was escorted to the check-out and was told the out-of-pocket cost was $421.00. I asked what the fee was for and the receptionists stated for the visit. I asked to speak with the financial department and I was informed they weren't in the office and would call in Monday. When I spoke with the financial coordinator she informed that a root canal was performed and I needed to schedule an appointment for a crown. I informed her that no one had explained nor did I consent to a root canal. She apologized and stated there wasn't a financial coordinator present at the time. She as Compensation I was offered a payment plan for the crown. I visited the dentist twice after that. Unfortunately I had to return to this Crabtree Family Dentistry On January 4, 2025 for a filling fee ($71.00) on another tooth and January 18, 2025 for a crack in the tooth the unauthorized root canal was previously performed on I was informed the old filling that initially caused the decay and culprit for the root canal was never removed and the endodontist had left a whole in the tooth. I paid $126.10 to have this fixed. The owner was present and I requested to speak with him. I explained what had previously transpire and how the issue was addressed unprofessionall. His response was the endodontist is no longer employed there and he's interviewing for new staff. Good help is hard to find, he's going to retrain the existing staff and he would have the treatment coordinator contact me on Monday January 20 2025. Today January 29, 2025 I called and requested to speak with the office manager, she wasn't available. The financial coordinator got on the phone after being on hold for 30 minutes. I explained the entire situation. She proceed to ask didn't you hear the drill being used and you didn't stop the endodontist to ask what he was doing. She spoke to me in a condescending manner and interrogated me, as if I was the reason the root canal was performed without consent for treatment being signed. She became irritate, unwilling to listem and wanted to be heard and unprofessional beyond belief. I have had root canals and extensive dental work completed without any problems. Crabtree Valley Dentistry has failed to acknowledge and take ownership for their failure to obtain informed consent, poor customer service and overall poor patient care. I'm a nurse manager at a hospital and I wouldn't have a job if I had treated my patients in the manner I was treated. Just sad. TERRIBLE SERVICE. There is a billing issue and they will not call us back. It has been over a week. I called again this morning and was told they would return calls eventually and they were exceptionally rude. I was asked to pay a bill that doesn't make sense months later. They will not let you speak to the manager or give you information why you have a random charge for another name on your account 5 months later post cleaning. The staff was all super friendly and knowledgeable. My hygienist made me feel comfortable, as I have dental anxiety and it was my first visit at this practice. It seemed like she went out of her way to make conversation. It seems like this practice really cares about their patients. Beautiful office. The one thing that concerns me is that the doctor does not prescribe medicine for anxiety for procedures, which has helped me in the past. I will just have to go to my primary care doctor. read more

I am so lucky to have found the perfect dentist office! Dr. Knowles & Ashley (hygienist) worked on my teeth today & I couldn't be happier with the experience. The ease of making an appointment with Tracey - even over email, she was so pleasant. The office is gorgeous! I was welcomed immediately by Ashley, who gave me a tour & my new patient goodie bag (see picture). We chatted for a bit & then she started X-rays & the cleaning process. There's a TV on the ceiling for you to watch during the cleaning. Dr. Knowles was very sweet & thorough. Sadly, I do have cavities between my teeth (booo), but another appointment awaits me for that fun stuff. Susan walked me through my treatment plan & costs associated with my cavities work & possible Invisalign. She also was detailed & thorough. A plus for families, they have an on site child care room. This place does not care about you, they will never listen to you, and they have no idea what empathy is. Dentist are there to collect money and go home. I must add in the end they did come up and it's a reasonable solution. However keeping any of my payment seems unfair since I left having NOT RECEIVED the one and only they felt needed to be fix! This was such an awful experience. I was berated for oral negligence; I have never missed a biannual cleaning, I brush and floss daily. I apparently had four cavities that no previous dentists mentioned - news to me. Months later, I'm in pain, I was never in pain prior to these supposed cavities. This place and practice are junk. I had such a great experience today!!! It was my first visit to Crabtree Valley Dental and (embarrassingly enough) my first dental appointment in years. Lauren was my hygienist and she was FANTASTIC! She made me laugh and feel so comfortable. I can tell she loves what she does and she is so good at it. Dr O'Leary was my dentist and he is equally as enjoyable! I'm actually excited to go back just to hang out with them. Liz came in and explained to me very clearly what the cost (she is a joy as well) will be and what the best plans are for my teeth moving forward. I got a detailed print out at the end of my appointment with pictures showing me exactly what needed to be addressed. I also got a goodie bag (who doesn't love those?) and a blanket. read more

Lured me to go in and what I was told was they are starting with cleaning and move on to the Invisalign process. I was reluctant because I specifically asked for an orthodontist visit but since I was there and was overdue for cleaning I figured why not? After that doctor came in hours later, she tells me they don't have orthodontist and she needs to refer me to one. When I asked why I had wasted my time coming in for a service I didn't request for, she said at least you got your teeth cleaned? Seriously??? If you are money hungry due to low pt visits, is that the way you intend to get pts in? By deceiving people? I will NEVER go back there and I threw away that stupid blanket they gave me. I've called Crabtree Valley Dental my dentist for 5 years now and the office continues to impress me with their professionalism and A+ service. Their staff - receptionists, hygienists, and doctors- are always welcoming, knowledgeable, efficient, and effective from booking to walking out the door after a visit. The building has a forest cottage feel and is well maintained and comfortable. I thankfully have not needed some of their state of the art dental technologies, but know they are capable a such. During the covid pandemic, the office has practiced reassuring safety measures including providing guidelines prior to your appt, questionnaire upon check in, temperature check, and hand sanitizer availability. The office continues to impress me and I'll continue trusting them with my dental health. read more

Everyone at this facility was extremely nice and personable! They laid out all of the costs ahead of time and explained everything to me - even all the annoying questions I asked about my teeth and sensitivities. As a new patient, I am already way happier with the staff here than previous dentistries. The place itself is very nice with hard wood floors, TVs in every room and comfortable chairs.
