Views of the beach
Micah B.

I have no idea what is wrong with people that they'd give this place anything less than 4 or 5 stars? We thought the service was great and so was the food. We got an appetizer and drinks. I ordered a piña colada and the server recommended their special- a blueberry piña colada with an extra rum floater, it did not disappoint. We got chips and guacamole to snack on. It all came out quick and tasted so good! I love that it's only accessible by beach- it makes it feel more exclusive and really gives you the authentic beach bar experience. There were several locals there when we arrived (always a good sign). We are staying in Rosemary Beach and we thought the prices at CS's were very reasonable and refeshing. LOVED that you have amazing beach views and that it's all outdoor. Kick back, enjoy the views, the food, and the drinks. 11/10. Will definitely be coming back.

Our server was amazing and attentive. We settled on a cheeseburger and it did not disappoint. Albeit, I didn't snap a pic of the food, I did snap pics of the beach! Wonderful views.

Been coming here for over a decade!! We love the chips & guac. The freshest seafood around!!! Love the lobster on the lobster roll! The "roll" is actually just a hotdog bun... the fresh, tender lobster makes up for the hotdog bun! Burgers are great!! Pasta and potato salad are amazing. All the wraps...

What an incredible location and fun spot to dine while enjoying the beach. Love that our only access is directly while on the beach. I had their sides which were delicious potato salad, creamy coleslaw and tasty pasta salad. It hit the spot and I definitely recommend it. Service while sitting at the bar was great. Also, enjoyed a small bucket of frozen mixed berries margaritas. Will be back.

Blackened Grouper Sandwich w/ Sweet Potato Fries

True Rating- 3.3/5 Stars Solid for a beach bar. The food was pretty good. Service was great and pretty quick. There is not much seating, and nothing indoors, but again - beach bar. I had the blackened grouper sandwich, and it was great. So were the sweet potato fries. Others in my party had the Jerk chicken sandwich and the chicken tenders. As far as I heard, only the chicken tenders weren't good. Their cocktail also had way too much salt. Facilities were typical beach bar. Not too much to write home about. I do not know if there were any bathrooms. Biggest knock against the place is it is only accessible via the beach. Cost was a bit pricey for my blood - but that's okay. It was good so no complaints. NOTE: Star rating based on my own formula consisting of flavor, cost, facilities, service, and overall satisfaction. Reviews are subject to change based on future visits.

This was one of those occasions where I was delighted to have been so wrong. The crab cake was well worth the hype. Two hearty cakes, plenty of moist, tender lumps of crab, nice seasoning, and a mild remoulade that complimented them quite well. While I figured (also wrongly) that I'd leave hungry, I most certainly did not. Service was extremely friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the open-air, courtyard experience. Quite relaxing, and while there was none while I was there, I think they have regular live music in the area. As for the rest of the menu, looked like they sell other seafood and such as well, but this is a place where I'm just not sure I'll ever make it deeper into the menu than where I started--not going to top those crab cakes!

Plenty of street parking. No issues with a spot and we stepped in and were greeted by Paul and Lark upon entry. Major plus is the fact that you can get fresh oysters shucked and shrimp, fish, burgers, they have something for everyone! If you don't care to eat in, getting it to go is also fine I'm sure. Ordered a dozen oysters, steamed Old Bay shrimp and potatoes, and a shrimp and fish plate that came with Cole slaw, hush puppies, and fries. Plenty to share. They have multiple sauces and seasonings, especially of note is the Crystal hot sauce from Louisiana which is one of the best IMO for oysters. Service was very good, friendly, professional, and helpful with support. Couldn't have been happier with the lunch today, we already will plan one last visit before heading home Saturday. I cannot say this enough, good food, great service, fast in and out, accommodating when asked for something. It's 100% perfect for this area. The person cooking in the kitchen also nailed the food cooked back there also. They have a steam box in the front as well as a huge area where the seafood is displayed. Support small businesses!

Great flavor. Mains: I had the red snapper and took the server's recommendation to swap the fingerling potatoes for the truffled mashed potatoes. (Lighting in the picture isn't great, but it was divine.) My husband & one son had the filet, another had the pasta, and the last one had the pork chop. All were really good. Dessert: we sampled the chocolate torte, crème brûlée, and the key lime pie. All were good, but not standouts on their own.

The staff and servers are more than attentive and very knowledgeable. And usually the food is amazing- but this time it wasn't great. The scallops were undercooked and expensive for just 2. I was very excited that paella is back on the menu but was really disappointed in it. The aioli was off putting for me and the mayonnaise seemed to overpower the dish. I would love for them to bring back some of the older dishes like the sticky ribs and old paella. I'm unsure if the chef has changed again but I feel like the food is declining each time I come. The best part of the meal was the complimentary bread with honey butter. I will definitely still come back but I really hope the culinary team addresses some of these issues.

Everything was highly unbalanced. We ordered the octopus, which was pretty good. The ceviche was terrible. Inedible - fish drowning in straight lime juice. I order ceviche OFTEN, and this was a huge miss for me. They need to add something sweet or creamy to balance the dish. It was way too acidic and very unpleasant, so much so that I returned ny dish after one bite. They were nice and let me order something else... I got the scallops. They were extremely bland, ironically missing any acidity. A tiny bit of lemon could have gone a long way on that dish. I didn't even eat half of it. Not worth wasting the calories. The creme brûlée was good... nothing super special, but luckily that's a tough one to mess up. Overall, I would absolutely not recommend this if you have a decent to good pallet for food. The food is way overpriced and just not very good. The dishes need quite a bit of tweaking to be balanced.

Incredible service, felicitous staff from hostesses to bussers to waiters (Tommy) to the manager and the managing partner (Mississippian Jason Burgardt)--who waited tables at Walker's Drive-in, then managed Flight in Memphis; we even had people in common. Overall the level of service here is outstanding. Seating is comfortable and spacious. Glassware is tasteful. Immediate service was provided when appropriate. We enjoyed the Angel Eggs: Crispy shrimp, farm eggs & bacon marmalade. A 1/2 Caesar salad and a wedge, and for entrees we both had a Taste of 30A: Grouper, Red Snapper and Crab-stuffed Flounder with accouterments that corresponded with the full-size entrees. Each fresh fish dish was flawlessly presented, with fish perfectly flaky and executed and the subtle-yet-distinct flavors melding into an absolute gestalt of goodness! Loved the touch of the micro greens. A most enjoyable, tasty dining experience! Highly recommend if on or near 30A! Worth the drive!!! Also, we peeked in the bar that has a happy hour from 3-6! Had a warm speak-easy feel! You can dine there as well. We were told the locals enjoy this unique spot and I can see why. In addition, there is outdoor seating with soft overhead hanging lights. A side dining room can be closed off for a private dining experience, with seating in that room for up to 40. Lots of options for special events in this space for table seating as well as menus. Even though our reservation was for 4:30pm, by the time we departed the restaurant at 6:15, the place was filled with diners yet still the atmosphere was not hectic or loud. Somehow they maintain that serene but not too stiff environment. I'd say, it was very clear to me that all the staff here is dedicated to serving others and to excellence. When you pair that with a gifted chef, sous chef, and focused kitchen staff who are dedicated, you get a 5-star restaurant. Pair all of that with a caring and professional Managing Partner, and you have a special place to dine. Ambrosia Prime Seafood and Beef is a 5-star gem restaurant in the 30A area. My first time ever having a dish of the sort and I was pleasantly surprised. The other night, I got the Scallops and truffle risotto, which was amazing as well, but the real star was the risotto. It was so good, I would recommend getting it as an individual side with anything. We also received the crème brûlée for our anniversary, which was great as well. My husband had the shrimp cocktail, filet mignon, and elk over the course of his 2 dinners. Both were the best meals of his trip. The ambience of this place was also super nice, and there was plenty of parking since it was near a shopping center. First visit and we'll definitely be back…read more This was our first time at Shades Bar & Grill, and it was a great experience. We went with a group of seven and everything from the atmosphere to the food made it a really fun night out. The location and vibe are fantastic -- lively but relaxed, the kind of place where you can easily settle in with friends and enjoy a good meal. We started with appetizers for the table: calamari, onion rings, and volcano shrimp. All three disappeared quickly. The calamari was really good and normally comes served over jalapeños, but since I don't eat them the kitchen kindly put them on the side for us. The onion rings were fantastic, and the volcano shrimp had a little heat (which the spice lovers at the table really liked). For dinner I had the hibachi steak over fried rice with yum-yum sauce, cooked medium. It was excellent -- tender, flavorful, and a generous portion. Others in our group ordered the same dish and loved it as well. The chicken nachos were huge (normally an appetizer but easily a full meal) with really tasty queso that had a bit of spice. The burger and flatbreads at the table also got great reviews. We also tried the chocolate dessert bomb at the end (not sure of the exact name), and it was fantastic -- chocolate mousse and cake inside a chocolate shell with whipped cream. Definitely worth sharing. The drinks were great, the service was friendly, and the whole place had a welcoming feel. One thing we really appreciated as well: they offer a military discount, which was a nice touch. We're locals and this was our first visit, but it definitely won't be our last.
