My go-to Seafood boil spot in San Diego! The house sauce is like no other. I order 1/2 medium SNS because their spicy is SPICY. Our usual server, Mariana, is so friendly and provides quick service. The restaurant is pretty large, we usually don't wait to be seated. Keep in mind, the parking lot is usually packed so allow time to find parking. It's hard to find another seafood boil restaurant like Crab Hut!

garlic noodles (udon noodles now)

Ordered 1/2 pound of shrimp head on and it came with 8 pieces of shrimps Full house for flavor and 1/2 medium for spice Of course, I got rice as well! Got garlic noodles but to my disappointment noodle was changed to udon. I haven't been back to this establishment in awhile so it surprised me when it was no longer linguine. I was specifically craving the garlic noodles but it didn't really satisfy me. I took 3 bites and opted to take it out for left over. Flavor is great but I just prefer linguine or thinner noodles for garlic noodles. I don't think I would order it again. I prefer getting my garlic noodles at Submarine crab instead unless they ever go back to linguine. I am not used to using garlic noodles. 18% service charge is included in the bill already! :)

Crab Poppers, SNS

Love the food here. The sauce for their boil is perfect. I don't know how they do it. When you order hot, it really is spicy too. So stick to mild if you can't handle spice. The udon noodles have a nice chewy texture and soy garlic flavor. Their crab poppers is another one of my go to orders. It's crunchy on the outside. Nice and creamy inside with the crab, jalapeño and cream cheese. Service is good but hate the mandatory 18% service fee. So the SNS which is around $56 turns into $72 with tax and service fees. It's casual inside. Parking here is hit or miss. The parking lot in the plaza it's in gets full so fast. I often have to park in the street then walk over.

Go To Town

Overall delicious boil and the mild sauce had a little bit of kick that is perfect for a table of people with mixed spice levels. We all split the Go to Town with added snow crab and head on shrimp - everything was perfectly portioned but it did feel like the bag was short on some of the essentials like clams, mussels, and sausage. To be fair there was ample crab, crawfish, and shrimp for everyone, but the lack of the other components is what kept this from being a perfect 5. Overall would come here again and recommend for a tasty boil!

Oysters

Loveee their house sauce here. Perfect amount of spice and their sauce consistency is great! I love coming during their happy hour since their oysters are half off and currently they are huge!! They do already charge a service fee. I like that they have a sink right outside the bathroom that you can wash your hands right after and love the vibes here.

Crabhut is my favorite seafood boil in San Diego. Nothing beats it. The flavor is just on point and they make their food spicy. I can eat here everyday!

We came here to have a holiday get together with my in laws that came from INDONESIA. We got on the wait list around 6:15pm and got seated around 6:40pm so the wait time was not bad especially for a party of 14... My party ordered 4-5 pounds of KING CRAB, CLAMS, SHRIMP. They were devouring it! GUMBO: 8/10 I had a runny nose and sore throat so I just walked to have soup. It was nice and thick. It's also low in sodium. I added some TABASCO and enjoyed it! SERVICE & AMBIANCE: The interior was nice and spacious. I wish I got her name but, she was really patient with our party. She kept coming back to refill our hot waters and got us extra plates. KEEP ON ROCKN CRAB HUT!!!!

The full house medium spicy shrimps are the families favorite!!! We love driving almost 1hr to eat here. Jason provided awesome service. I definitely loved the fast service and attention. Although it was very busy and noisy, Jason was on top of our food and drinks. Thank to crab hut for the delicious food and great service!

Seasonally available Dungeness Crab market price.. this one came out to be $65

Still my favorite place! Still ordering the same thing after 8 years. Crab legs combo, full house 1/2 medium spicy sauce, add half order sausage, no garlic bread, sub rice. Prices have skyrocketed though. What used to be $43 + tip is now $114 including mandatory 18% service charge. Still, worth the splurge.

Garlic noodles

Came here on a Monday on MLK day for lunch. There was no wait and no line which was good. The service was pretty quick considering we had 7 people. They had lots of seat options. I got the 1lb shrimp with full house sauce mild. I thought the shrimp was really good with sausages. My friend got their spicy and it was pretty spicy but good. I also got a side of garlic noodles which came with a lot and enough to share with people. The garlic noodles were okay and could have been better. But it's a good place to bring people.

Ordered Go to Town! It was amaaazing! We loved the crab: king crab and snow crab legs. So deeelish. My little one doesn't like spice (boo!) but MILD was perfect for us all. Margie was amazing, attentive, explained the menu, had great recommendations and accommodating. Great first experience for my fam. They have a great HH, which we did not partake but it's 50 pct off oysters!

We came on the right day! Dungenese crabs are $27 each.

Food was spectacular and service always the best. Thank you for the fast service and delicious food!

Cajun wings. Sauce on the side.
Alex R.

First of all, the parking lot is insane around dinner time. When you get inside, you are treated warmly by the staff. Very friendly and attentive. Service was excellent. The food was good. Got the wings during happy hour. $0.75 a wing. We got the sauce on the side. The wings were good. Crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The garlic bread was good. Had a layer of cheese on top. With the knife I was given, I destroyed the bread trying to cut into pieces. Really liked the spicy Cajun chicken pasta. Not very spicy. Chicken was tender. Place was clean. When we got there, plenty of seating. But, after about 15 mins, the place was packed with a line forming outside. Service fee/Tipping is included but was worth it because of the excellent service. Can't wait to come back to eat one of the boils.

Is there really a mandatory "service fee"? If so, does it apply to take-out?

There is no fee applied to take out. Only dine in.

Do they take reservations?

Unfortunately they don't and parking is hard to find if you go during rush hour.

Are there gluten free options? Would the seafood boiled be gluten free and safe for someone with a gluten allergy(celiac)? This would mean that no item containing gluten would be able to be cooked in the same water.

Can you order 1/2 or does it have to be a lb?

You're able to order 1/2lb options for all items!

Is the crab legs combo enough food? Like is that combo for one person?

IMO it's definitely enough for 1 person. I even have leftovers sometimes.

Are they open? I have been calling for two days no answer?

They are open for take out only

Can I make a reservation as I would like to celebrate my husband's birthday on 27th?

Yes, it's best to make reservations even for a small group. They get super busy.

Can I do pick up orders?

Yes, just call in 😊

Do they accept Apple Pay?

Sorry we are currently not accepting Apple Pay yet. Hopefully in the near future. Thank you for your inquiry. Best, Kim

Do crab hut take reservations?

I believe it's only walk-in and you put your name down on their kiosk when you arrive that gives you an estimated waiting time.

What is the best time to go on a week night for dinner?

It's safe to go after 7 on week days to be honest as it's less of a wait.

Is the cornbread good?

Cornbread is good, I'm not a cornbread expert though.

We sat inside, though there is also a lovely patio outside with umbrellas. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. It was a bit noisy inside since there isn't much to absorb the sound, so you may need to speak a little louder during conversation. I did find the lunch menu to be expensive. We came here to celebrate my sister's birthday, and everyone seemed happy with their dishes: a shrimp po' boy sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, and pasta with tomato cream sauce and shrimp. I ordered the chicken po' boy sandwich. The sandwiches were served with seasoned fries, but unfortunately the fries looked and tasted like they had been sitting for a a while--dry and not very fresh. My chicken po' boy was disappointing. The sandwich had tomatoes and some iceberg lettuce, but no sauce, which made it very plain. While the chicken itself was tender, it lacked flavor and the overall dish felt like it wasn't prepared with much care. For a $21.50 sandwich that was essentially a few pieces of chicken breast with tomatoes, lettuce, and old fries, it felt like an expensive mistake. Perhaps other dishes on the menu are excellent. However, having grown up with a father who was a top chef, I tend to notice when simple dishes--like sandwiches and fries--aren't executed well. These are usually some of the easiest things to get right, which made the experience even more disappointing for me.

The best seafood boil in all of San Diego in my opinion, and I've tried many places (yes, including…read moreCrab Hut). The main reasons why this is my top spot are: -Seafood Quality - the clams here are BIG and don't fall out of the shell, and the shrimp is always perfectly cooked and not mealy. The crab clusters are big and juicy as well. -Sauce - I always get the Torpedo Sauce (the house mix-of-all-of-them sauce) but instead of just tasting like garlic, lemon, old bay, "the sum is equal to more than the parts". In other words, the flavors meld together and are magical. I have heard some say that the sauce here leans sweet, and it definitely does have sugar, but I find it balanced. Also, it is mostly emulsified and does not have a thick layer of pure oil that runs off the seafood like some places' sauces. -Other Factors: they used to have a free fries deal for posting on social media (gone as of Feb '26 though), but they still have $1 oysters on some days, I like their fruit tea pitchers which are great for large parties, and they also give free Vietnamese chè for dessert! I rank this higher than Crab Hut because a) it's cheaper, Crab Hut is expensive even for seafood boil, and b) I prefer the sauce here. But Crab Hut is also S tier in San Diego so you can't go wrong with either.

The flavor overall was really good--the sauce had a nice depth and was well-seasoned. If you're…read moresomeone who enjoys spice, just note that the heat level wasn't very strong, even when ordering it spicy. That said, the shrimp and crawfish were unfortunately overcooked and came out pretty mushy, which took away from the experience. With seafood, texture really makes a difference, so that was a bit disappointing. There's definitely potential here because the flavor is solid, but hoping for better execution next time.

We came on a weeknight in January and easily found parking out front. The restaurant is more of a bungalow, and it's quiet and really pretty on the outside. There is a door on the left of the stairs that leads to a small, old timey dining room, and it's going to be weird...I'll warn you about that. When you open the door, it feels like you just walked in on someone's private dinner party. It's super quiet in there and it's just a bunch of tables. No host/hostess. You seat yourself if there's a table. A server comes in and out of the room to serve the tables. The Mac and cheese was meh, we ordered it for a toddler. The crawfish étouffée was so good, they did not skimp on crawfish. I like it a little spicier, but this was what I needed. I would definitely come back here! If it's a cold night, dress accordingly, this bungalow is not insulated and the server comes in and out, so it was freezing. Can't imagine the heat in summer, but the food is worth it.

The Cajun fries held their own too. Prices are fair, actually a bit cheaper than comparable spots in SD, and the space itself is large, clean, and nice inside. We were seated quickly with no wait. That said, a few things brought the experience down. The staffing was clearly not enough for the volume of guests -- as the night picked up, service noticeably slowed, and it felt like the waiters were stretched thin through no fault of their own. That's a management issue. The sausage portion options are oddly limited too -- only a half pound or full pound, nothing in between, which feels unnecessarily restrictive. Biggest miss: the calamari. One bite and I was done -- it had "frozen grocery store bag" written all over it. Skip it entirely. The garlic bread is in the same boat, obviously store-bought, though it's passable enough. Stick to the seafood boil, avoid the appetizers, and hope you visit on a well-staffed night.

The fried shrimp had great flavor and seasoning on the breading. I personally would've liked them fried just a little harder for a bit more crisp, but they were still very tasty and fresh.
