So this place really surprise me. I am not used to have finding good Chinese food in San Diego, especially dim sum but this place really lived up to its reputation on yelp. It does look like a mom and pop Chinese restaurant and I love that they still push around the food and carts. My favorite dishes were the Peking duck, tripe, and the steam crêpe. The only thing I didn't like was the deep fried shrimp ball. I thought it was not crispy enough and had way too much dough, but the shrimp inside was good. This place is perfect for large groups and you can make a reservation if necessary. The service is also good, better than a lot of Chinese restaurants that I've been to. It is a little far out the way from the other Asian area in Convoy, but I think it's worth a trek on a weekend. Prices are standard for dim sum nowadays my husband really liked their big screen TV. If you're looking for authentic dim sum in the San Diego area, this would be my choice.

Came here around 10am and got seated right away! We were really hungry so I wasn't able to take any picture of the food but my favorite was the shrimp Shumai. This place is very clean and the servers are always on top of our waters and hot tea.

Been here at least 5 times, and we just can't get enough of the delicious food. The service is always on point. The waiters are friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome every visit. The restaurant itself is huge, super clean, and has a stage and giant TV screens that give it a fun, lively atmosphere. This time we ordered the pork shumai, shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, and my personal favorite- the hot and sour soup. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were craving. We also grabbed some creamy egg yolk buns to take home for dessert, and they did not disappoint. Easy to find parking.

I legit cannot recommend this place enough. Food was great, service was great. 10/10 I also forgot my to go box on the table and one of the staff ran after us all the way down the parking lot to make sure we got our food.

Came on a random Tuesday at 11:30 am and there were only two other ppl in, which was nice Parking lot is huge so no problems there, right next to the north gate marketplace Most authentic dim sum in San Diego, but I guess also not cheap - seems like dim sum is expensive everywhere now - 6 dishes was around $65.

We ended up trying this spot because it kept popping up on our Instagram feed, and since we both love dim sum, we figured why not. We ordered a little bit of everything: shrimp har gow, shrimp siu mai, shrimp rice rolls, BBQ pork, Young chow fried rice, egg drop soup, crab meat soup, chicken feet, ginger scallion tripe, and xiao long bao. First thing I noticed most of the shrimp dishes tasted really similar. I get that they're all shrimp-based, but the har gow, siu mai, and rice rolls kind of blended together flavor-wise. The siu mai was packed with shrimp, which I appreciated, but it just didn't stand out. The chicken feet were actually good though. The xiao long bao was probably the most disappointing for me. It was dry and didn't have that juicy, flavorful broth you expect. The BBQ pork was also on the dry side, so the sauce definitely helped carry it. The fried rice was okay nothing special, just your standard fried rice. As for the soups, both the egg drop and crab meat soup tasted pretty typical. Not bad, but nothing memorable either. I was honestly hoping for more crab in the crab soup I think I got like one strand in my bowl. Overall, I'd say the place is just average. It's not bad, but it's not something I'd go out of my way for either, especially considering the price. Most of the dim sum dishes are around $6-$9+, and I've definitely had better (and cheaper) at other spots. That said, if you're already in the area and craving dim sum, it's still worth trying at least once.

Being from Orange County, my expectations for Dim Sum are high. I typically go to Jasmine or Emerald whenever I'm wanting Dim Sum, but decided to give this place a try after seeing it on Yelp and I am glad I did! Met the owner and he was confident that his food was better than the other places mentioned AND much easier to find parking as the lot is huge. They push the carts around as traditional dim sum should be, the food comes out hot, and my party and I were happy. If you don't see the item you want on the cart, you can always make a request and they'll notify the kitchen to have it prepared. The restaurant was spacious and the atmosphere was chill. The food was very good and well priced. I think I found my go to spot in the San Diego area! They serve dim sum ALL DAY from open to close, even though this is usually a breakfast/brunch type of thing. Highly recommend you check them out!

My friends and I went on a day trip to San Diego. Being from San Gabriel where there are an abundant of dim sum restaurants, Diamond Place is truly a diamond in a rough. The dim sum dishes were absolutely delicious and well presented. Usually, I feel like there's a balance between how good the service is vs the taste of the food. Diamond Place definitely has both. Dim Sum doesn't taste mushy from being over steamed. The staff were very attentive - making sure we had the sauces we needed, making sure our tea pots weren't empty and making sure we had a great experience. I was truly amazed. We particularly felt the shu mai were exceptional. The combination of savory shrimp and pork in a dumpling had a great bite. My friends and I agree, one of the top dim sum restaurants in the nation! We've booked marked it for our next trip.

We were visiting San Diego, and had eaten here once before and liked it. Unfortunately, this time our experience wasn't as good. We came for the dim sum lunch service. The food was hot and good. The service was terrible. There were a couple of larger groups of about 8 people, and they seemed to monopolize all the service. We pretty much felt ignored, and the cart service for the dim sum was truly lacking. Also when I used the restroom there was a cockroach right at the door. Ugh! On our next visit to San Diego, we won't be coming back here.

Yummy dim sum that doesn't disappoint! The venue itself is a large rectangular space with plenty of tables and seats - all white interior. It looks like it serves a dual purpose - like a rental of the venue. We were immediately seated, no wait. We luved the variety of food. Everything was very tasty. I appreciated the servers bringing the food carts to our table. It's love at first sight, not first bite!!

Looking for a good dim sum place? This is one of my top places for a dim sum lunch. Unlike the places that are available in convoy, this hidden gem has lots of parking and great prices. You can order from the dim sum trays or the menu available. I always love coming here with my family cause it's easy and the staff here is very nice. It's great for our families and groups. My recommendations? Shrimp shumai Sticky rice Any of the dumplings Sesame balls Barbecue pork bun

Ample parking + friendly service. One thing that stood out to me was that their water was actually ice cold -- super refreshing! :) Although they color code the dim sum menu, you can't actually see the prices on it which makes it a little deceiving lol. But the food was delicious! Authentic and we liked everything we got + portion size was HUGE for everything. My favorite was the har gow. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a family style restaurant!

Diamond Palace is still quite good overall - updating to encourage anyone/everyone to order the live whole lobster (ours was a 4 lb-er). Next time I would order it with the noodles to soak up all of that delicious shellfish flavor.

I guess it's a good thing that food is made fresh but if you're on a time crunch, don't dine here. Service was non existent. Price increase and quality went down. The har gow skin was thick, the siu mai was bland. Chicken feet was decent. It has free parking. Inside was bright and they have a private room.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.
