Upon arriving, all the hostess told us was, "We have a lot of reservations ahead of you, so just keep checking." How about grabbing a piece of paper, writing down people's names, and noting the size of their party? It would make managing the line so much easier and more organized. How are you supposed to know who arrived first? Seriously, this seems like such a basic process, yet there doesn't appear to be any system at all. I was excited to try this restaurant after reading so many positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The first surprise was that soft drinks don't come with free refills, which wasn't a major issue but was unexpected. I ordered 1 lb of shrimp and later found out that corn and potatoes are only included with orders of 1/2 lb or more of snow crab, king crab, or lobster. Since I ordered shrimp, I had to pay an extra $4.50 for two pieces of corn and another $4.50 for five pieces of potatoes. When my food arrived, the shrimp was overcooked, and I only received three potatoes instead of the five I paid for. On a positive note, the servers were friendly and courteous throughout the meal. Came back a year later, and the service is just as friendly and welcoming. I took my mom here for her birthday dinner and we all enjoyed our seafood boil feast. We indulged in their Family Combo deal called the Captain's Catch, which was enough for 4-5 people. It includes head on shrimp, peeled shrimp, clams, mussels, 5 sausages, potatoes, and 2 corn cobs. I did feel as though there could be more of one item, and we ordered an additional 1lb of crawfish. We tried something new and we loved their chicken wings and crab cakes. They were great appetizers! I noticed there's some warmers so my husband and I are looking forward to coming back during colder evenings to enjoy The staff was super kind, patient and helped us in deciding what to order. First time trying this place and I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Daddy's Noods and the Snow Crab Legs. I ordered through delivery service so the cost was wildly excessive with all the additional fees the app charges but the cost of the food itself seems on par with other crab boil type places. It seems they charge by cluster and not by pound. I don't know if that's better or worse for anyone but I think I'd rather by pound. The crab legs also came with corn, sausage and potatoes without it being an added expense. Compared to some other places I would typically just order 2lbs of crab legs with no extras and I would maybe spend around $100. The legs I got did seem a little small for the price of $69/2 clusters but I can't say that for certain or assume that is the norm. Take that for what it's worth. The flavor of the sauce is really nice. I got a mild garlic butter and Cajun and it was delicious. Still had a little heat for mild, but very good. Same with the Noods. I got non spicy since they were for my toddler and they tasted very good. I almost stole them from her. I would eat here again but in person to save on the delivery fees. read more

My husband and I were craving shrimp, Cajun style so bad! He found this wonderful spot at Liberty Station. Lots of parking to spare, no stressors about that. We came in the mid afternoon and were seated immediately. The server was really nice and made sure we got our drink orders in. We made up our minds and got a pound of peeled shrimp with potatoes boil. Delectable!! The vibe of the restaurant is really chill and they make amazing drinks at the bar. Hello Yelpers! Drove down to San Diego today to celebrate a family member graduating from Marine basic training. They chose "Boil Daddy" for the occasion, and it didn't disappoint. My wife and I shared the Mahalo Shrimp plate, while other family members went all in on the seafood combo boil--which they said was fantastic. The real star, though, was that Daddy Sauce (medium heat). It's garlicky, rich, and full of umami--seriously, you could put this stuff on anything and it would be a winner. I'm determined to figure out the recipe someday. Finding the place was a little tricky for me, but once there, parking was plentiful and the service was warm and friendly. The service was the standout -- friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. My server Dipess checked in often and made sure we had everything we needed, which goes a long way. We ordered our boil with the Daddy sauce, the only thing I will say about the sauce was it was yummy, but it had a sweet taste to it, which I didn't really care for. The first SD location of The Boil Daddy has debuted at Liberty Station in the Point Loma neighborhood. The suite still has a temporary banner hanging above the entrance to indicate the business is now operating. They will remain in a soft opening phase until the grand opening on April 9th. Parking was fairly easy as there were plenty of spaces for the trio of businesses along this side of the plaza. The inside decor had a nautical theme which was typical of seafood boil places. The front of the menu featured the step-by-step instructions on how to create your own seafood boil. Preset combinations for larger parties were available. Chicken wings, po' boy sandwiches, entrees, and sides were the other savory offerings. The back side of the menu listed the beverages and desserts. I decided against a boil and went with two choices from the Daddy's All Day section... a Crab Cake Appetizer and Daddy's Noods. The first was two crab cake patties served with a side of french fries. Ketchup and tartar sauce were provided as dips. The fries were thin cut and hot out of the fryer. The crab cakes were alright as the crust was mealy and not as light and crispy as other spots where I have ordered this item. The second was a bowl of linguine pasta served with peeled shrimp and topped with parmesan cheese and parsley. I was asked to choose a sauce and a level of spiciness. My picks were the Daddy (mix of garlic butter and cajun) and mild spicy. The garlic presence was strong and to my surprise, there was a fair amount of heat. In hindsight, I should have went with the original which had no spiciness as the mild gave me a case of the sweats. I finished the appetizer and ended up taking home some of the noodles after consuming the shrimp. The prices were reasonable, and the service from the staff was very good. I gave a four star rating for my dining experience at The Boil Daddy. read more

Boil Daddy, a seafood restaurant, recently opened inside the Liberty Station complex, plenty of free parking steps away. There's outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. Indoor seating with a bar section and TV monitors. This restaurant opened last Friday and everything looked clean and the decor was aesthetically nicer than expected from floor to ceiling. The staff were cordial, helpful and efficient, special thanks to Jasmin for being super nice to Me and Fendi. The menu offers mostly seafood but there are additional items you order. Unfortunately, the menu does NOT offer a lunch menu or happy hour specials. I would be interested in ordering 1/8 portion of all the seafood versus 1/2 pound. Ordered a chilled Pellegrino H20, the crab cake appetizer and fries just in case I don't like my main dish. As it turns out, the french fries were crispy and good but the crab cakes were not that great; presented with two flat patties, that upon tasting a piece of one...tasted more like tuna cakes and would not repeat ordering :( To be honest, I'm not big on cracking shellfish with sauce that will get my hands messy, splatter on my clothes, regardless of plastic gloves and a plastic bid, I would rather eat shellfish already de-shelled... with that in mind, I ordered the Shrimp Bowl with Daddy sauce which is a blend of garlic butter and Cajun sauce and got it mild for spiciness. Even though I can handle eating 'burn your tongue' spice level, I wanted to taste the flavor of the sauce, and glad I did, it was Delish!! The last time I had a version of this kind of food, involving cracking seafood was years ago when I was a child, with my family while dining outdoors in Redondo Beach Pier. They charge 6.50 for sausage and 5.50 for potato but neither in my mix. Problem is I ordered this through Uber and there is no form to get a partial refund for the missing items even though the combo states that that's what it comes with. Do you better because people pay way too much money for this. Boil Daddy has some really good Cajun flavors, and when the food is good it really hits the spot. Unfortunately, the quality is not always consistent. A few times the shrimp seemed overcooked or not very fresh and ended up mushy, which was disappointing. Because of this inconsistency, I plan to start ordering from another Cajun seafood restaurant where the quality has been better.
