The wide variety menu and kitchen deliver good food- we lived the shrimp boil and appetizers of all sorts. An unexpected gem:

We arrived just in time, as there was a line to get in directly after we were seated. Service was slow, but they were really busy. And we were not in a rush. Complimentary chips and mole to start. The Esquite (Mexican street corn, sans cob) was amazing. I could eat this every day of my life. The Pork Bao Buns were flavorful, but the cheese threw us off. There was a lot of it, too. We ordered the Birria Tacos (beef) and the Korean Al Pastor Rice Bowl. I had lunch for two days. Can't beat that! BYOB. Small parking lot. Street parking seems tough - it may be wise to Uber. There were tons of Door Dash orders being picked up (we were sitting near that area). It got a little crowded with so many drivers hovering around. Get there early!

The inside is beautiful, with lights on the ceiling and tables arranged neatly. There are no booths. The restroom is huge and temperature-wise a little chilly. They bring your bill to the table but you pay at the register. Everyone is very nice and they brought water unprompted, which was fantastic! Then the food.... Delicious! The egg rolls were nicely fried and the insides (especially the birria) were tasty. I do not care for the texture of onions - these were hidden, but at not coat to flavor. This restaurant is a gem, I'm glad my friend took me here as a post-play lupper!

My first trip to Umai Ramen was on a cold and windy Sunday December evening. Umai Ramen is open…read moreuntil 9 o'clock PM on a Sunday, which is good to know. There are several other restaurants in the large, mostly Asian strip mall, but some close as early as 8 o'clock on Sunday. We artived pretty late and about 45 minutes before closing, but the staff was really friendly and accommodating. There was only one other couple eating while we were there. We ordered the shrimp tempura udon and the black garlic Ramen. Both dishes were very good and had a lot of flavor. I really liked the black garlic Ramen. The interior of the restaurant is really nice. It definitely adds to experience. I will be back to try some other items on the menu. I really enjoy Ramen on a cold night. Prices were reasonable.

Second time was recently, and honestly by accident (ordered to pick up, thought it was a different place, then after ordering, realized it was this place again). And this second time, it was worse. Most of the food was completely bland. Only the soup was inedible, as they poured it into the plastic container when it was way too hot, I got home and found the container melted most of the way through, and tasted like salty plastic. And again, everything else was bland and tasteless. Had to HEAVILY doctor the food at home to make it edible.
