Nursing has been anything but easy, and because our daughter is so tiny I have felt nothing but pressure for her to gain weight as quickly as possible... very difficult when breastfeeding is proving difficult. The onset of vasospasms so painful that it felt like a cigarette burning me straight through to my shoulder blade finally led me to make an appointment with My Pure Delivery. First of all, it was not covered by my insurance because Blue Cross Blue Shield sucks. But every dollar I paid out of pocket was worth the time they spent with me to ensure I felt comfortable utilizing the strategies they helped me master with their help. Additionally, they allowed me to come back periodically to weigh her at no additional cost so that we could monitor her weight without paying for yet another doctor's visit. Allison is incredibly knowledgeable about all things baby. The class started off with a thorough discussion of creating a safe sleeping space for the baby regardless of whether the child is sleeping in his/her own version of a bed (like a bassinet) or in the bed with the parents. Allison provided great information as to how to make the child's sleeping arrangement as safe as possible. She also included ways to reduce the risk of SIDS, which was incredibly helpful. Allison also reviewed car seat safety for newborns and young children and gave her recommendations as to how best to accommodate the needs of children. She then taught all of us how to administer infant CPR and we each practiced multiple times on a doll until we felt comfortable with the process. Afterwards, she taught us how to help a choking child and when to know that it's time to administer CPR. She also gave us a thorough list of the foods that children are most likely to choke on. Many food items were a total shock to me so it was really helpful information to have. The class ended with helpful tips on how to baby proof your house and she showed us her favorite (and least favorite) baby proofing products. The class was phenomenal and Allison was a treasure trove of helpful information. I shared much of what she told us with the parents of the child I'll be nannying soon and the mother plans on taking the class, too. I highly recommend investing in a class with Allison!

Call back time if you leave a voicemail is about a day. It was hard to find the location. I got super lucky and accidentally parked across the street from the entrance. I pulled onto the road that leads to baseball fields and thought I'm never going to find this place. Vehicles and trees were blocking the white flag that signaled the school until you were practically on top of it. My suggestion would be to move that flag out towards the road more. Tucker was our instructor and went threw all the equipment and how to paddle properly. He was super kind and patient. My son has autism and can be very hard to work with when we try something new and he's scared, but Tucker was a rockstar! If you are good with children with disabilities you are gold in my book. The dock is in a cove. It is great for beginners - especially on a windy day like today. We started on our knees and I thought this is where I'm staying. I was able to balance - thank the lord. Tucker answered all of our questions and even fell in the water to show us how to get back on our boards. After about an hour I finally got the courage to stand. I got over confident. I took some pictures and boom fell - luckily some other people boarding helped me get back up because my life jacket kept getting stuck. I'm definitely investing in a life jacket and not using the bulky ones they provide! All in all a great day, a great instructor, and a great time! Her energy and humor make spending four hours in a classroom on a Saturday morning not half bad. Be sure to give yourself a little time getting there as it is on the northbound side of I-35 and there is no designated turn-around lane on the frontage road and the light takes a while to cycle through. Overall the class was very informative and Cynthia Jones really knows her stuff. We spent a lot of time with the mannequins for hand-on training, which makes sense to practice and practice to ensure your skills are there when you need to use them. We were provided a book (purchased through the website beforehand) that we referenced and were allowed to take with us. There is a test at the end of the class that you must get all the questions correct on, so be sure to pay attention!

I signed up on the website. There are class times available 1-2 times a week. You can also do all your training online and come into the center to get checked off on the skills portion. I may consider that next time when my time is not as flexible. Note that Life Sustaining Training offers other courses like PALS, ACLS and CPR. Jessica was my instructor and the class was a total of three students including myself. The class consisted of instruction and information given by Jessica and a video. The students had to be able to demonstrate what we have learned on a mannequin for the skills portion. The mannequins are actually higher quality than I have ever practiced on which was a refreshing change. They had sensors on them to gauge if you are doing chest compressions correctly. Overall a great class, great location, and easy to sign up.
